Disneyland Divas working out, getting healthy, and looking fine in '09!!

Well, I walked the twins to school. That's about 4 blocks (or 3 long ones depending on how you look at it). Then I came home and did the 15 minute walking inside making circle 8's through my kitchen and living room.

YEAH!!! You did it!!! :cheer2:

What this virtual trainer would like you to do is to print out that 8 week training program (or to put it in whatever format you'd like). Point is to write down what you did today on the training program. And go ahead and give yourself a star for today! (my DSs love stars and so do I ;) )

Ok I'm back....
So I was watching Oprah yesterday and she told me I was just imbalanced.
Yep, imbalanced. Thats what's with the weight gain. I thought it was
prednizone (sp) & depression. Silly me...

Ok but for reals.
I bought Wii fit on Sunday..holy cow...hula-hoopin is some work out!
But the high school is now open for evening walks again! yay!

Anyways...do you guys follow a food program of such or something?
I never reallly know what to eat.

Hey wait, Oprah said SHE was inbalanced and that was why she was overweight. She didn't indicate that was the root cause of weight gain for everyone. Didn't Bob say viewers were supposed to ask themselves that question to find out the root cause for themselves?

I'm a big Oprah fan and jump to her defense at all occassions. ;)

I liked the show yesterday. Got me thinking...

Welcome back! I didn't watch it but I feel like if I had her money, her personal chef, her trainer, etc. I'd never gain the weight back! :rotfl:
Heck, she is rich and powerful enough that she could pay someone to literally follow her around all day long and yank the food out of her hand if she wanted to!! :lmao:

My biggest downfall is cooking for my kids because I am in the kitchen so much that I tend to finish their food and snack while I am preparing their meals. She doesn't have kids and even if she did she wouldn't have to set foot in the kitchen.
She could afford to actually empty every single cupboard in there and have all her meals delivered by one of those weight loss companies. So I don't know........I just don't get it. :confused3

Anyway, as for what to eat I'll tell you what I did when I lost the weight in the beginning. I've strayed from it lately and that's why my weight is back up!!

I keep lots of quicky frozen foods on hand. Sometimes when you are tired, it's just easier. Lean Cuisines. I really like their paninis and flat bread sandwiches. Lean Pockets, Smart Ones, Healthy Choice, etc are good too.

Oatmeal, yogurt, fruit, and cereal are all good for breakfast. Quick, easy. I use non fat milk and low sugar oatmeal packets. I love the Yoplait thick and creamy light yogurt. It's so good, like a dessert.

If it's a weekend and my kids want a big breakfast, I'll try to eat what they are eating but in a healthier way. I'll make my scrambled eggs with egg whites and add lots of veges and top it with salsa. I use Morningstar veggie sausage patties. And butter spray not real butter.

If they are having pizza, I'll make one of my Lean Cuisine pizzas so I can sort of eat like the rest of the family and not feel so left out.

Basically I've tried to find ways to take the foods I love and make them healthier. I LOVE burritos/soft tacos.
Here's an example of how I changed things to make them healthier.

Before and After:
huge burrito size tortilla - now the small fajita size tortilla
regular cheese, the more the better - now Weight Watcher cheese in a small sprinkle
regular beans and lots of them - now fat free beans measured out
regular sour cream in large dollops - light sour cream measured out
only a little lettuce and no tomatoes - now lots of shredded lettuce, tomatoes and onions
I also add salsa now because it has very little calories and adds lots of flavor.

My point is you can take just about anything you'd eat normally and alter it to make it healthier and still taste good. I'd skip any sort of diet food plans and just eat the things you like but make it a challenge to find ways to make them healthier.

I think that will work the best for you in the long run and keep you from feeling deprived. Heck, you can even keep eating desserts! There are several Smart Ones and Weight Watcher ones to choose from. There are 100 calorie packs. Sugar free puddings with only 60 calories.
Do you like Reese's peanut butter cups? Those were my favorites and I found these that are a great substitute: http://www.amazon.com/Reeses-Snacksters-Calorie-Peanut-4-69-Ounce/dp/B0012YKTEK (OMG they are good! Walmart, Target, the grocery stores, all have them.)

It's all out there you just have to look and read labels. And measure when you are fixing your food. It's a pain at first but now I know what a serving of cereal should look like and I don't always have to measure. I know how many calories are in a certain favorite food without having to check each time. You get used to it.

Keep a food journal. Write down everything you eat. It's so important to do that. Also planning what to eat the day before helped me immensely. I'd write out my "menu" the day before and post it like they do at the school cafeteria. So I'd wake up and say ok, for breakfast it's this, for lunch it's that, and for dinner I can make this.
That will take the guess work out of it, and make it easier when you are starving and staring at the cupboard. You'll be less likely to grab something else because you already know what you are having.

Now having blabbered on about all that, I need to get back on track doing it as well. :rolleyes1 Because when I did, I lost the weight so that's all the proof and incentive I need. :)

Note to self: Do not criticize Oprah around Jen. :rotfl: ;) I haven't watched her in a long time. I used to like her a lot and then she started getting too "preachy" for me. She had some really good shows though. :thumbsup2

I will print out that program so I can follow it easier and track what I've done.
Hey, can I get a star shaped cookie instead? :rolleyes1

Kidding coach!! You know I had to say something annoying...... :rotfl2:

Beth--of course you can have cookies. You deserve it! Have a handful.

Just make sure they are fat-free, sugar free and calorie free.

Heck, you can have a virtual cake too, if you'd like. :cake:

:rotfl:

Dang, I am not getting a good start to my new job at work. Must focus. And pretend I have an interest in this new work. Focus. No DISBoard. No virtual sugar. Focus. :headache:

I was super sick yesterday with the flu, so I didn't walk at all. (Yeah for me following the plan!;) )

I really can't walk today either. Still feeling too weak and still have the chills, but at least not as bad as yesterday. (Yesterday was the "I think I'm going to die" flu day. I could barely get out of bed, and then I could barely make it back to bed. Potty trips.....ugh!)

Once I get back on my feet (literally), it's gonna be virtually impossible for me to walk outside. It's a little thing I like to call "Buried Alive".

Just driving to the store is happily named "Suicide Run".

But I can certainly walk around inside, go up and down the stairs, around the kitchen, and so on.

One thing that did surprise me about our trip to WDW......after all the walking we did everyday, we never got sore. I don't know why.?.:confused3 Wierd.

Capri--You have an official pass to start your couch to 5k program next week when you're feeling better. I'm sending you many many wishes to get well soon and do hope that your DH and kids are stepping up to the plate to help around the house while you are out of commission. Get lots of rest and feel better soon!

Thanks Jen.

I couldn't figure out why I had such bad chills today, because I do feel a little better. Took a hot shower to try to warm up. Didn't work. About 2:45pm this afternoon I realized I hadn't eaten anything today (whoops). I wasn't really hungry, but I thought it might make me feel better. So DH made everyone some nice warm Top Ramen (it was the only thing the sounded like it wouldn't make me sick to my stomach). After that, I was still chilled to the bone.

Took my temp a little later.....103.7. Wow, that's kinda high. Then I thought that it was so high because I just had some warm Top Ramen just a little bit ago, and maybe that influenced my mouth temperature. So I swigged some ice water around my mouth a couple of times, took my temp again, and got it down to 101.6.:goodvibes

Moral of the story.....I took some Ibuprofen.:thumbsup2

DH will make meals, take care of the kids, and bring me ice water and such, but actually "helping" around the house (like loading the dishwasher, or doing a load of laundry), uhhhh, not really.

Afternoon all. Capri I am sorry you are so sick. That stinks. I feel your pain. I suffer from IBS and because of that I tend to get some embarrassing to admit side effects like hemorrhoids (sorry tmi) and because I have had these issues all my life when I get them now they become the really bad thrombosed ones which are incredibly painful. And wa la now you all know what I am dealing with this week. If it is not one thing it is your mother.

I swear I turned 40 and EVERYTHING has gone to pot! I have had the migraines since I was 18 but they have gotten worse as I am getting closer to menopause so I had to start taking daily meds the last few years which of course constipate you and thus lead to other problems and I have had this IBS nonsense for years as well but then several members of my dad's side of the family have those issues as well as bad stomach problems. In fact my father has such bad problems that he is on several meds and goes in for endoscopies and other lovely procedures several times a year. They worry about esophogeal cancer with him and his esophogaus doesn't work well and he has all sorts of reflux issues. I am just WAITING for that LOL.

And now in the past year I have had this stupid bladder issue crop up.

So needless to say I have had so many stupid things go wrong and it makes it SO frustrating because I SO want to be healthy and continue to work out because I feel SO much better when I do but so many of the meds I have to take affect different things. Like my migraine meds affect my circulation and I am on hormones also for my headaches which affect things as well.

I SO want to feel good so I can work out and feel healthy but I need to get all these problems fixed. It is SO frustrating.

Anyway for THIS week I just need to get this stupid roid fixed because it is EXTREMELY painful and I can't sit, stand, lay down or do much of anything but take bathes and sit on an ice pack until it bursts or goes down so I am pretty much out of commision until then.

But once THAT goes away hopefully I can get back on the horse.

But at least I am trying to eat good in the meantime!

Capri ~ feel better soon. Being sick really does suck. :sad2:

Kelly ~ so does getting older. :sad2:

Hi all,

Capri...I hope you feel better. And I've gotta tell you...your posts always crack me up! And I checked out the link to your TR in your siggy and realized I had read (and loved) your TR last year.

grizzbuzz.....I am intruigued by the 5k challenge...hmmmm. I need to figure out how to get in on this. I didn't see the post until now so I'm behind. But I'll catch up.

beth...wooohoooo for being creative and walking in figure 8's! I was actually picturing you doing this as I read! It has been cold here lately, hasn't it??

Kelly....I am sooo sorry. I completely understand what you are going through and oh my god it is painful beyond belief!! That happened to me when I was pregnant with my youngest and I thought I was going to die. I went to see a surgeon friend of mine (the pain made me get over the humiliation real quick) and he did a quick procedure to remove it. I still felt like I was going to die for several days but after that it got better. It's been 3 1/2 years but I can still remember how much that hurt. I'll be thinking of you and hoping it gets better real soon.

If you're trying to figure out how long your neighborhood walks are, try this tool. It's very cool and you don't need to sign up for any membership to use it. You can map your walk to see how far you are really going in those three blocks to school and back, around the block at work, whatever... Good tool to figure out your weekend walk.

Thanks so much bigsky (I feel so stupid calling you that I wish I knew your real name LOL). It just sucks cuz I have to take other meds for my headaches and my bladder which of course constipate you which then cause these OTHER issues. LOL.

And as you probably know once you START getting these then you are much more susceptible to them. I also have fissures which are OH so lovely. I was having so many issues this summer I had to have a barium enema and let's just say I NEVER want to do THAT again. And being a migraine sufferer having to go without eating for nearly two days is NOT a good thing! By the time I went in for the test I had a WHOPPER so it made it OH so fun! I was absolutely miserable!

But anyway last summer when I got one of these I went to urgent care and I asked to have it lanced but they wouldn't do it because they said they worry about infection and they said that is worse. It would take the pain away but they don't want to have to deal with that. And there is the banding but I guess they don't do that so much either. They basically just told me to do the sitz bathes and gave me a scrip for percocet for the pain (which of courses causes MORE constipation but of course they gave me colace along with) and then I went to my pcm and he gave me a steroid creme which I still have and am using now. I am hoping that I got this one early and that the creme will cut the time down since I caught it early. The last one I had was the size of an olive. And it took over a week to burst. It was absolutely excruciating. And you are right until it bursts or shrinks on its own it is agony. Then to add insult to injury I worked too long on my compuer yesterday and got a lovely migraine last night so that just added to the fun! I got a double whammy! :)

Gotta love it! ;)

But the good news is I am still at 155 today. So at least I am eating good and sticking to my weight! Something is going right LOL.

Hopefully since I know what to do this time I can get this thing fixed sooner and be better by next week so I can FINALLY start working out and REALLY start to lose by next week!

It's DAY 3 OF OUR COUCH TO 5K BY DL DIVAS MEET
If you did your fifteen minutes walk yesterday, great job. If you didn't, it's not to late to jump on the band wagon and get walking!

For today, we have an optional rest or walk day. If you are sore from yesterday, definitely rest. If not, go ahead and do a little non strenuous walking to keep building those muscles.

Again, here's the entire, very doable program:
http://www.halhigdon.com/5K%20Training/5-Kwalk.htm

For today, also would be good to start thinking about where you are going to go for your longer walks this weekend. Can be anywhere in the neighborhood or beautiful nature walk. Just take a little time now to plan to fit this into your weekend.

Again, If you're trying to figure out how long your neighborhood walks are, try this tool.

GREAT JOB DIVAS!!:cheer2:

Oh, Kelly. That is a lot to deal with. I'm sure you will get some relief soon, and good for you for sticking to a healthy eating plan until you're able to get back to the exercise plan.

Hope you're back to your old self now Capri! I have to go read your trip report now.

Really just wanted to report in. I did it. Made it to the gym last night, just barely though. I did my treadmill for 20 minutes and would have kept going but I had promised the little one he could go swimming and it was getting late. He is old enough to go in by himself, but just barely, and I don't want to send him in alone, and big bro wouldn't go in. (He is into working out himself now!)

Anyhow, hope you all have a great day!

If you haven't already, make sure to print out that whole couch to 5k training program and track your progress and give yourself a GOLD STAR for yesterday! :)

And, if like Beth, you need handful of virtual star cookies, take those as well. ;)

It's not just that it's cold but I also don't like walking alone. Our neighborhood is pretty safe, but still. I'd rather walk inside.

GREAT JOB DIVAS!!:cheer2:
I haven't walked yet today but I will. I did walk the girls to school and will walk to pick them up. I've been busy cleaning the rooms too so hopefully that counts for something. LOL

I want to say yesterday was the first day in about 3 weeks that I was 100% on track!!! :yay: It felt good but it was hard. I had Ruben make dinner last night because I didn't trust myself to be in the kitchen without eating!

I've just been so used to non-stop eating for so long now that I was afriad I'd give in. But I did good and so far today, I've been on track as well. :)

Good job Beth! I so know what you mean about cooking. That's why I don't do it anymore. When I did I always ate WAY too much. Today I had my shredded wheat and then a small bowl of low fat mac and cheese (instant) 1 serving size. So I am doing ok I think. Tonight we are having a tri tip and probably rice and some veggies so I will have my usual small serving so I think I am on track.

I did the same thing today too. I didn't want to get on the computer so I cleaned the girls room!

Gotta run pick them up but good work! :)

Don't you get hungry? That doesn't seem like it would fill me up. :confused3

I am with you. I would starve to death. Today I had all bran with 1/2 a banana and nonfat milk. Then I had fiber low fat cracker things with a regular cheddar chees stick. Then I had a Sirloin tips with Broccoli lean cuisine meal, then I had a yogurt and fruit smoothie, then I had dinner, which was about 2 to 3 oz of pork chop, a scoop of kidney beans, broccoli and cauliflaur.

And I am hungry right now! Thinking hard about having a 60 calorie carmel flavored pudding before I go to bed.

And I did not excercise today because it was to dang hectic with haircuts for all of us after school/work.

Tomorrow is another day....

Night.
