Hi all,
Lots of familiar faces here! I've been meaning to join this group forever, well since it started, but I keep making excuses and was shocked when I decided to finally hop over and try to read through the posts to see the group started back in July!! How is that possible. The time completely flew past me and I have done NOTHING to get this weight off. So, I'm starting today!!
I've read some of your stories, so here's mine:
While I've never been "skinny", I held a healthy weight all through high school. I was a dancer and got several hours of exercise a day. After high school I slowly started gaining weight when I stopped dancing and started college. Over the course of 5-6 years I gained about 40 pounds. Then I got married and started having babies, gaining weight with each one!! I have 3 kids now ranging from age 3 to age 11. I'm embarrased to say I am now 90-100 pounds over my pre-gain weight. I've tried Weight Watchers twice, and lost around 40-45 pounds each time, then fell off the wagon and promptly gained it back. I usually hit a high weight of around 243, which is where I am right now. I am 5' 8 1/2" and miserable in my skin.
I am a nurse and work as in hospital management, work long hours, and am also working on grad school. There aren't many hours left to squeeze in exercise, and let's face it, I am so out of shape that the idea of exercise depresses me. I an addicted to Diet Pepsi and drink it morning to night (what the hell do they put in that stuff??? how are so many of us hooked on it??). I also turn to food when I am stressed and spend so much time on the computer writing papers that I tend to "snack" while I'm studying.
So.....it's a new year and I'm ready for a new start. I am going to weigh in every Friday and at least post weekly, but I'll try to check in more often. I'm setting initial goals to:
1) cut down to 2 diet pepsis per day and drink 8-10 glasses of water
2) figure out a way to hit the gym twice a week
3) track all my food
4) choose healthy options, and cook healthy meals
I'd be thrilled with a total weight loss of 75 pounds at this point, and I'm setting an initial goal to lose 20 by the Ladies Only Trip!!
Congrats to all of you who have had success! I'm happy to be here.
