Disneyland Divas working out, getting healthy, and looking fine in '09!!

MommyU4 - Do NOT beat yourself up for one evening. Promise yourself that you will do a little more exercise tomorrow. I know where you are coming from. I did really well today (mostly because I was in back to back meetings) but then came home and after a nice healthy steak salad I picked up a nectarine, 2 granola bars, popcorn and a skinny cow before I finally stopped myself. We did take a walk tonight, but I'm GOING to the gym tomorrow and get back on the dreaded treadmill.
Thanks. I know you are right. It's just one night in what will be a long journey. The difference for me this time around is that I'm not letting set backs like that throw me off track completely.

I just need to get right back on track which is what I'm going to do. Slowly but surely this weight is coming off, despite a slip up now and then! :thumbsup2

Good morning Ladies! :flower3:

QUOTE OF THE DAY

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

Goal today is to complete 45 minute run and do my weights. Did my scheduled 30 minute run yesterday and no pulls or pains in my tendons, so I'm feeling good for today. :woohoo:

Have a great day!

Jen, I love, love, love your quotes of the day!!! They make so much sense. :rotfl:

Glad to hear you weren't in pain yesterday.

Good luck to everyone today. You can do it!! Tomorrow is weigh in day for those who want to do so. :cheer2: :cheer2:

Good morning ladies.

Welcome to our newest members! YAY!!!

Sorry I wasn't around yesterday. I had an extremely busy day bussing Ryan to and from school, bussing my dad to and from a dentist appointment, and cleaning my parent's house, among other daily chores. I'm actually still tired this morning, probably because I have to get up at 6:30am every morning, so not a lot of time for sleeping in. Plus, like some of you know, I have problems sleeping anyway, and last night wasn't a good one. My mom saw me yesterday morning before she and my hubby went golfing and said I was looking tired. Gee, thanks mom.

If anyone is looking for a Wii Fit, there's a ton of them for sale on Ebay.:thumbsup2

I'll be weighing in tomorrow morning (shaking in my boots).:scared:

Ooh, thanks for the eBay tip! I'll have to go check that out.

MommyLove - I just noticed your next trip to DL is September 12. I'm going on a mini-girls only trip on the 11th. I won a couple of free nights at a hotel so we decided to leave the husbands/kids at home. We even have a DL first-timer with us! If you see three women acting like teenagers, come over and say HI.

Oh that sounds like fun, Jane! We won't get there until late on the 12th. But that would be fun to see you there! If you see a harried mommy strolling around a cute little 6 mo old girl trying to keep up with the two older kids and my husband... chances are it's me!

Wendy, I also tried Fry's and apparently we just missed a shipment from 3 days ago (they sold out within an hour). Poop.

Hey MommyLove and 2_Eagle_Mom!

Just confirmed our reservations for Sept 13-15 at DLH. Should be a great time to go!

Thanks for the tip. I just wish O could justify spending $50+ dollars over the MSRP. If I worked full time I'd probably get it off of Ebay, but I just can't afford it.

Thanks for checking Fry's, that's the other place I don't like going into. :lmao:

I swear, those two places have such bad customer service!

I hope everyone is having a good day. I upped my 1 mile walk to a two mile walk yesterday. Hopefully I'll be jogging soon. And by the way, which one of you snuck into my closet last night and shrank all my clothes? Not funny guys! I have a feeling I didn't lose any weight this week, but I'm OK with that since it's only my first week. I've noticed that my stomach can't handle much sugar anymore, so that's good!

Woot! More of us going at the same time!

Ya, after I checked eBay I thought the same thing... I am not going to pay that much more over what I can get it for in the store. That's $ we wouldn't have to spend at Disney! ;)

Wow, that's awesome! Keep it up!

Hey, that's cool some of you are going to be at Disneyland the same time!! You should try and meet up for a pineapple spear next to the Tiki Room. I would say meet up for a churro, but I'm trying to be helpful. ;)

More money for Disney food! You know that when we lose all the weight with our WiiFits we can eat all the Disney food we want!

And thanks for the encouragement! :goodvibes

Mmmmm...churro. *drool*

Just thought I'd share this since I'm at work and NOTHING is going on, it's SO boring today!
On TheDailyPlate.com they have this graph that shows you your weight gain/loss over time and I was looking at mine today, and OMG my poor body! How can I be so cruel to it:

Hi Ladies!

I just got back from a session with my personal trainer who I see every few weeks. He's helping me with an exercise plan to train for a 10K run in the end of August. Well, I decided today that I wanted to adjust my plan and instead train for a 10 MILE run on our KICK THE COUCH event on October 11-12. He's adjusted my plan and I'm going to be gradually and safely increasing my weekly long runs from 1 hour to 2 plus hours in the next 2 and 1/2 months.

This is a little crazy as I'm only running 5 miles now on my weekly long run and it's taken me 4 months to get to this point. However, I just feel like biting off a little more than I can chew right now. What the heck? So if I miss the goal, who will know but you ladies and I'm trusting that you won't rake me over the coals for reaching too high.

Why am I boring you with this? Well, I'm hoping to get more of you to sign up for the KICK THE COUCH 5k. And I think we should change this to a KICK THE COUCH AND EXERCISE event - opening it up to whatever exercise excites you. Could be a preplanned walking course through Disneyland and/or California Adventure...or a long session on Wii Fit. Only qualifications is that 1) it must be a stretch goal that you'd feel a real sense of accomplishment achieving and 2) that it's an exercise you enjoy (or could imagine enjoying if you don't enjoy any exercise now). There is no risk to this -- no fees and no penalties. Just upside and more upside.

PLEASE join me and pick an exercise goal to train for and accomplish on the weekend of October 11 - 12. And if you have plans on that exact weekend, of course you can do it another planned time. The point is to pick and commit to a goal and to be accountable. Together we can encourage and motivate each other to KICK THE COUCH! This can be another way we measure our health and fitness beyond just the scale.

So who's with me?? Takers?? Anyone?? Don't leave me hanging... ;)

Let me leave you with another quote, as others seem to be able to say what I want to so much more succinctly and clearly:

Start by doing what is necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.
-St. Francis of Assisi

Hello Ladies,

Beth told me about this thread so I thought I would jump in! I met some fellow DIS'ers on the Ladies Only Disneyworld trip back in '06. I just had a baby 1 month ago and they went ahead and made sure it would be the last time I will be pregnant so I am raring to go to get this weight off. I have actually lost all the weight I had gained from this pregnancy but I have about 100 pounds to lose to get back to a healthy weight. I want to do this now as my oldest child is 3 and I know he is going to soon be at the age where kids may start teasing him about his mom being so big and I don't want him to go through that.
Also, I want more energy to keep up with him and his new baby sister. I want to travel and not worry about fitting into the plane seat. I want to have energy to do DL to it's utmost! We are going to be there next September when my daughter and her cousin who is 3 days older than she is are 15 months old. I have 14 months to get this weight off! I can do this! My first goal is to be under 250. I am currently 269 but my wi day is tomorrow (Friday). I think I have lost 4-5 so hopefully 249 is not too far in my future. My husband is trying to lose weight as well, so it helps to have him to support me in this and to know that I need to do well and support him too. I go back to work in about 12 days and there is a gym there so I will be working out about 3-4 times a week and hopefully I will start taking my kids on walks around my moms neighborhood...she lives less than a mile from me. I would like to encourage my son to start getting that excersize as well. He will love to ride his hotwheels.

I know I am rambling, but I have a one month old...I don't get much sleep! I have always been a yo yo dieter and I just turned 30, so it is my goal for this decade to break that trend.

Good luck to all of you. I will try to go back and read all the pages prior to this one so I can "meet" all of you! I will also log in tomorrow with my weight loss for this week...for me it helps keep me accountable if I know I will be sharing with all of you my loss or gain...it helps me keep in mind that I want a loss to report when I am tempted to grab a candy bar or the like.

Thanks to all of you,
Sarah

That's really interesting. Kind of an eye opener too!

Ok, I might think about doing this. I'm just not sure what I can train for. :confused3 I cannot get out to a gym: no car and four kids. It's too hot to walk outside right now. We are over 100 every day. Right now it's 106 out. I don't own a Wii. Hmmmm, let me think of something. And I'll get back to you.

Sarah!!! Yay! I'm glad you could join us!!

When I started this back in mid-May I was at 263 (which is about what I was when we met), and now I'm at 239. I know you can do it!!! 14 months is a good chunk of time and I know you're gonna lose the weight, especially if you are exercising. That's great!!!

We can do this together, all of us!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Sarah so glad you are joining us. And that's great that you have 14 months and a wonderful incentive!! Our trip to Disneyalnd THIS September is a great incentive for me to get in shape (I had a baby in March).

Wendy, I found a Wii today!! :yay: Try Game Crazy on Fairway; the # is 780-0660. They had one more left when we got ours.

So I clocked in 40 minutes of Wii Fit excercise today. Some of it was totally not aerobic though. But man, I can feel the hula hoop in my lower back muscles!!

Hi new best friend! Have I told you how much I love you lately? 'Cause I do! (In a non-creepy, non-stalker kinda way).

Thank you SO much! I called as soon as I saw your post. The guy said they still had. I asked if he could hold it and he said he couldn't but he said he would hide it!

So now I have the WiiFit too! It's funny, because I got my nails done at Hot Nails earlier this week and it didn't even occur to me to check GameCrazy, even though it's like 20 ft away! My mom and I were even sitting in the chairs staring at Hollywood video and talking about it. It must of been all the fumes making me not think correctly. :crazy2:

Thank you SO much again! :flower3:

And now off to set this bad boy up!

Welcome Sarah! :cheer2:

I'm up for it! How about a Dole Whip for Bawb? (are you ladies Podcast listeners?) That'd be very cool.

You sound like me -- stuck in the house! My DH takes one car and the babysitter takes the other and I work from home. It's great that I'm able to do that, but I do get a little stir crazy at home all day everyday. Come the weekend I'm ready to get out and do something and my DH just wants to stay home at rest. But, I'm definitely am lucky to have a regional park one block away and temperatures that aren't so high, so I can just get up and walk or run when I have a break between meetings.

I can't wait to hear what you come up with -- I know you'll think of something fun and creative :woohoo: There's always Tai Bo (how do you spell that) or old Jane Fonda exercise videos! Or you could get a real hula hoop!

So I clocked in 40 minutes of Wii Fit excercise today. Some of it was totally not aerobic though. But man, I can feel the hula hoop in my lower back muscles!!

Woohoo!! Go MommyLove! :cool1:

I upped my 1 mile walk to a two mile walk yesterday. Hopefully I'll be jogging soon.

Yeah wendylady! :woohoo:

I'm not looking forward to the scales tomorrow. That's why it's good to track exercise...cause it's GOOD when those numbers go up!

Nite...
Jen

Welcome Sarah and congratulations on the baby! I started out at about 258 in 2004 and it was a slow process for me but I was able to lose 50lbs in about two years. Some people lose it slowly and I started when I 42 at the time. Starting when you are in your 30's is much smarter. One of my most embarrasing moments was when I had trouble fitting into a roller coaster (not at a Disney park). Just losing the 50 makes it so much more comfortable sitting in airplane seats.

Congratulations on both of you finally finding the Wii's!

GrizBuzz & MommyLove - it's going to be a great weekend! I'm jelous of DLH. We are staying at the Clarion (because it was FREE) so we have to drive over to the park each day. Luckily we're going to be getting AAA passes which include free parking. This will be a strange question, but do either of you bowl? I also won 15 passes at a bowling alley in Anaheim that we won't be using so if either of you are interested I can send you the certificate. I'll have to check to see exactly where the alley is (the certificate is at work).

Regarding the "Kick the Couch and Exercise Challenge" I definately want to participate, I just need to figure out what I want to do. I've only been doing the treadmill at the Y, but maybe I could get one of the kids or hubby to do an extra long walk/hike on that weekend. I'll have to think on it.

My normal weigh in date is on Tuesdays (and this week was a .2+) so I'm hoping to have a better weigh in next week. I think I did really well today. I promised you all that I would go to the gym and I did. Although I missed the exit off the freeway and had to backtrack. The I found out I had forgotten my socks (kept on the nylons) and my headset (watched HGTV without sound). But I did do the complete 1/2 hour so I feel good about that.

GrizBuzz - how long did it take for you to work up to 5 miles? I normally just do the treadmill and haven't had the courage to ramp it up fast enough to have to run (I'm afraid the "girls" wouldn't be in sync with the feet). I'm going to have to go back and look at your training schedule. How did you find your personal trainer? The thought is really appealing, but I'm just afraid of getting a "boot camp" type trainer.

Heh heh. Back atcha in the same non-creepy, non-stalker kinda way, lol. I'm so glad you got the last one! Woot!

And now off to set this bad boy up!

So did you get it set up? It took us awhile to get it sync'd up, but obviously we got it working. The whole family is into it and we had a big hula hoop contest tonight. Guess who won? :teeth: And that also meant I added more time. I'm think I'm at 48 total minutes now.

2_Eagle_Mom; thanks for the bowling offer. I don't think we'll want to take time away from Disneyland to bowl, but I appreciate the offer!

That's a neat idea! How to do that... we will be there full days from the 13th though the 20th. I'm sure I won't be able to plan something in advance since our style of doing Disney is just doing what we're in the mood for at the moment especially since we'll be there so many days we don't have to do any time management to make sure we hit everything...

YEAH!!! :cool1: I'm so glad you're interested. It took me 3 and 1/2 to 4 months to get to 5 miles. And it's very important to start gradually, as you want to build up strength and avoid injury.

Here's a great site with some information on how to go from the couch to 5k in 9 weeks. To quote (you know I love quoting ;) ) Its secret is that it's a gentle introduction to getting the body moving, starting off alternating between walking and running small distances, and slowly building up until after 8 weeks, you're ready to run 5 kilometers or 30 minutes non stop.

http://www.c25k.com/

There are many great links on this site, but one of the most useful is a program from cool running which has an actual program to follow:
http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

And regarding a personal trainer...mine is NOT like a boot camp trainer at all, so if you get one of those, I'd switch (unless that's a motivating style for you:rotfl: ). I found him at my gym. Only bad thing I can say about him is the price. So if any of you have free access to a personal trainer (Cristabel ;) )to help with a training program, I'd pursue it!

Ok, I will be back later with my weigh in and my quote of the day. I just had to write now, as I was so excited to see all this interest in the Kick the Couch and Exercise event! :thumbsup2
