Disneyland dishes

I bought a set of the Disneyland dishes, along with the glasses that go with them. I think they're very pretty. I intended on actually using them. But, I'm concerned about the little disclaimer they posted at the cash register stating something about California law and that some of the things are made with things that can cause cancer, etc. I asked the cashier if that applied to these dishes, and she seemed as if she didn't know what I was talking about and then said no, because they would have put something on those dishes directly. I notice now that they don't say they are dishwasher/microwave safe. Has anyone else bought these and are you actually using them?

I don't have the dishes so can't comment on how they would be used. But the CA law is one that we have in which consumers have to be warned if a product contains lead. Even a small amount that wouldn't cause any problems still has to carry the warning. I have crystal glasses that I use every day with no problems but they also came with the lead warning. I wouldn't worry about it. Use them for whatever you intended, whether it be every day or special occaisions.

I'm not sure if these are what you purchased. I found them on disneyshopping.com

Disneyland 50th Commemorative Dinnerware

According to that page, the stoneware dishes are dishwasher/microwave safe (a prerequisite for all of my dishes! LOL), and the glasses are hand wash only. I suppose if you put the glasses in the dishwasher and didn't use heated dry it might be ok, but that's just my opinion...

I wouldn't worry about it. Ten years or so ago, DH was manufacturing soldering irons when Proposition ??? passed in CA. Every single thing sold in CA has to have a warning on it if it contains even the slightest trace of lead. He was wondering why people needed the label on a package that said "Lead Solder." Hmmmm. . . :scratchin

You bought dinner dishes, not decorative dishes. Eat on them, but try not to eat the plates themselves and you should be fine. :rotfl2:

Just my two cents. . .

Yes, I agree.
Don't eat the dishes.

Yes, California is a bit weird like this - every hotel has to have a sign warning you are entering a building where poisonous chemicals may be found - why? because people smoke in it! (we decided to put our lives at risk and enter anyway :rotfl2: )

I suspect the warning on the plate simply means it's made of PVC or something like that.

Thanks, everyone for your reassuring responses. The dishes are not the ones shown on the website, but I think they will be o.k. to use. We'll remember our trip everytime we have dinner on them!

Hi! I asked a CM about the warning on the receipt the last time I was at DL (Aug.17,2005 :wizard: ). The CM told me that because of California State law if anything sold in the store contained lead they had to alert the customer. I asked what exactly was the item in the store they had to worry about. I was told that the jewlery had been tested at one time by an outside agency and that lead was detected. But, other test had been done since then and all seemed okay. So, for protection from law suits the disclaimer is on all receipts to protect Disney. :earsboy:
