hey everyone, i am heading to dlr in december for the first time and looking forward to attending some of the christmas fun, mostly the snow events as i live in australia and for the most part our christmas' are like 40 degress celcius, which is about 100 f...

what are the must see events at the resort at that time, tours, parties, parades all that..
also who is going to be there for the first two weeks of december?:woohoo:

We will be there Dec. 7-12, staying at HoJo and also going for our first Christmas trip. Although, where we are from, the weather is cold. So the warmer weather sounds great. Looking forward to the Christmas decorations and parade. We will also be there for the Candlelight Processional. I understand it's super busy, but we really want to see it anyway. Then we have 4 more days to enjoy a less busy park!! :)

We went last yr dec 7-12 and it was great do everything and bring a jacket it gets cold at night. My hands were freezing when the sun went down the decorations are great.

A cant miss at night is a small world they have a light show that plays on the outside of the building it is awesome.

You have to take some time out to visit with Santa and Mrs Claus at Big Thunder Ranch. They bring the reindeer (yes - real reindeer) down every year and Mrs Claus just wanders around and socializes, when she's not doing the RoundUp show. You can also sit for a while and decorate Christmas cookies there. They sell little kits with icing and sprinkles for you to be creative with.

The Yule Log dessert at the Plaza is pretty tasty, too. I think there was another thread where someone said they had some seasonal homemade fudge flavors, too.

First of all, you are in for a real treat, because, in my opinion, the holidays are the best time to see Disneyland. It is absolutely magical.

You didn't say where you would be staying when you are at Disneyland, but you should definitely check out the Grand Californian Hotel. Even if you don't stay there and just sit in the lounge area and sip a beverage, it is the perfect setting to soak up some holiday atmosphere. It is elegant but kind of rustic at the same time. The lobby is enormous, with dim lighting, dark wood and high ceilings. There is also a piano player. There is a beautiful Christmas tree in the center, and everyone gathers around it to hear the Christmas carolers sing every night. GCH is also home to the 4-star restaurant, Napa Rose, which YellowMickeyPonchos is very familiar with. It gets excellent reviews.

You won't find much in the way of real snow as far as the weather in Southern California (you would have to go to Big Bear or Lake Arrowhead for that!), but in DLR, there is the nightly 'snowfall' on Main Street (at designated times). The famous castle is adorned with 'snow' for the holidays but it is stunning to see at night, when it turns an almost incandescent blue-purple shade. As a previous poster said, It's a Small World Holiday cannot be missed. The exterior of the ride/building - especially at night - is absolutely breathtaking to behold. In fact, we rode IASWH a couple of times in the daytime and nobody was in line because I think people did not realize it was a holiday version of the ride. However, at night, it takes on a whole new life, and the beautiful, colored, twinkling lights acted like a beacon that seemed to attract visitors from all corners of the park. Suddenly the line for the ride was 45 minutes long. And the ride itself has been transformed to include holiday decorations, holiday songs and also the very faint whiff of peppermint as you sail through the 'candy cane factory.' You will also get to see the Haunted Mansion Holiday with the Nightmare Before Christmas theme. This ride has totally been revamped for the holiday as well, in great detail. Some people love it, some hate it, but I think we all can agree that the Disney folks certainly changed almost every detail of the regular Haunted Mansion ride to accommodate the Nightmare Before Christmas theme for three months!

Other than all this, there is unique holiday food, merchandise, characters in winter gear, decorations all over the parks - some themed to each land - and just an overall extra dose of Disney magic that transcends the usual magic we find when we go there. It is really a special time of the year, and I am so glad you will get to experience it! Whenever I hear that someone is going to experience Disneyland at Christmas for the first time ever, I get excited FOR them because I know how much they will love it!

thats awesome..like i said being from aus.. it will be weird seeing all the different xmas stuff...

wonder if they will have santa on the back of a fire truck.. like we do..

Santa can be seen in 3 places:

1. DL-at the end of "A Christmas Fantasy Parade"
2. DL-at Reindeer Roundup in the cabin (meet & greet)
3. DCA- at Santa's Beach Party Blast (meet & greet)

They don't have him on a fire truck, but they have a 'beach Santa' in California Adventure (it is California, after all) that you can pose for pictures with! You will have a great time! It is such a special time of year to go to DLR!

You do know that there isn't real snow, right? And it could easily be in the 70's during the afternoon?

Could be in the '70s, but out in the sun and and smooshed in with thousands of people, it can FEEL like it is in the '80s! Blecchhhh! Booooo heat! I want COLD! I wish we had real snow at Disneyland! I want COLD! It never seems like winter to me here in California, even when it drops to 30 degrees. I guess that is why so many people move out here, though!

The weather is one of the reasons I did NOT like living there. I guess that makes me the minority.

I love Fall and Winter. I missed them when I lived in Orange.

You and I are on the same page as far as weather. When my friend from Georgia just went to DLR a few weeks ago, she invited me to go and I turned it down because there was NO WAY in h*** I was dealing with that heat. And she gave me the typical response that people from the South love to say: "Well, it is not as bad as it is in Georgia (or Florida, or Louisiana, OR Alabama!), where we have all that humidity. At least out here in California, it is a DRY heat." And she tried to tell me that SHE wasn't hot at all when she went to DLR, so therefore, it "wasn't hot," period. I said I would have been hot. I don't care what the weather is like in the South. I don't live there. I am sure I would hate the humidity. But I live in Los Angeles. And I hate heat. Love Disneyland, LOVE Catalina Island. LOVE the beach and the pretty scenery around here. HATE anything over 72 degrees! So I am in the minority too. I am clamoring for Disney to open up an 'Arctic Adventure' park just for us COLD buffs!

We always go during this time, but have never been able to get the handmade candy canes everyone talks about. Can someone tell me when to start trying - when do they begin to make these? Thanks

I hate humidity. But dry heat is just as bad, in my opinion. We're living in the midwest now and all future Disneyland and WDW trips will be made in the winter. WDW last January had perfect weather. And our next Disneyland trip is in January too. We made the mistake of going to Disneyland last year around labor day. Anaheim had record temps around 108 degrees. It was awful.

We are planning on being there the week after Thanksgiving (1st full week of December). Will all of the Christmas activities, etc... be up or performed?

Yes!! Everything is in full swing right after Thanksgiving!

Last year on the DIS boards someone posted a list with the days that they make the candy canes. :disrocks: We went the first week of December and they were making them two times during our vacation time.

We went to the candy shope on main street and as soon as they begin to make them, people were lining up to purchase them. We stayed to watch for a little while, but my family was not about to waste precious ride time waiting in line for a candy cane:sad2: So, no candy canes for us. Oh well....

Here they are making the candy canes. It is so neat to watch!!
