I have some questions about Disneyland at New Years. I am sure the crowd level is crazy, but what is the week after like? Is is usually really busy around that time, do we need special tickets to get in for New Years? How far in advance should we book anything do you think? I really need some help and suggestions.

New Year's Eve and Day are normally very crowded. They traditionally stop selling tickets at around noon on NYE and they often close the gates at DL in the afternoon/evening. There is no separate ticket to purchase, just TONS of people wanting to celebrate like this: :crowded:

Here's a link to a recent thread about the week after: http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1484777

No special ticket required but it will be extremely busy. Start thinking about booking a vacation package NOW if you want to stay on property.

The week following New Years (through the Sunday after) were also very busy. A lot of schools are taking that week off now also.

LOL yeah I kinda figured the crowd level would be NUTS. It would be silly to think other wise. I just think New Years at DL would be WICKED! Thanks for the liks and such.

It is better if it rains - not so many people, and the people who are there want to party!!!! Last year they let us in at 11:30PM (gates were closed to DL midafternoon), but a lot of the people who were already in the park acted like zombies - not as much fun as all of us who they just let in. There are two countdowns, and the 9PM one is the one that is broadcast on ABC. We like to be in front of Small World. :woohoo:

It is really crowded the week after, as the Rose Bowl teams have their parades in the parks. Kind of a bummer for me as my bday is the week after New Year's (and my hubby's is Christmas Eve). But it's all good!!!

New Years Eve was the craziest I have ever seen a park, I was just shocked at how many people were there.

Even DCA closed their gates at 6PM :P

We didn't get to the resort until 8:30PM NYE 2006 and DCA was open - did they close the gates for a couple of hours and then reopen? We stayed there until 10:30PM and then waited in line outside of DL and they let us in there at 11:30PM.

We have passes and have gone the past two years for NYE 2006 we only went to DCA and had dinner at The Vineyard room, we had a great time but didn't stay at the VR for the countdown instead we walked down and did the countdown by the pier. It wasn't terribly crowded that year.

Last year we went early to DL though not early enough, they had stopped selling all tickets to DL and only had tickets for DCA (this was at about 2pm), we were told of a loophole by a CM who got us a upgrade for DH's lower pass, since I have a Premium Pass so would be able to get in no matter what. We were shocked how busy DL was and ended up heading out a little early to DCA were we did odd things we hadn't done in a long time or ever (like the Trails, this was extra fun in a long poofy dress hahaha!) and then went out the GC exit to Napa Rose for our reservation.

The dinner at Napa was a special coursed service meal ($185 a person $45 or $50 wine pairing each I believe), this was just AMAZING!! They had a band and dancing and we did our count down in NR, with hats and favors, they provided us. The food was some of the best I have ever had! Great Service and yummy wines!

After Dinner we went through the DCA entrance and back out to the central area between the two parks to see people, literally FLOWING out both parks. It was wonderful how much the parks emptied we actually got on quite a few rides at this point. We stayed for another approx. 2 hours and then head home.

The hours last year I believe were DCA 1 am and DL 2am.

We then went back to meet with friends and stuff later in the week, once on the 3rd I believe and the next on like the 6th. OMG!!! It was like summer crowds especially on the 3rd. We found it crazy busy and all were very shocked.

Even with the crowds if you have a good plan and are prewarned it is a fantastic place to ring in the new year. We hope to do Napa Rose again this year it was just so spectacular!

NOTE: If you would like to do the Napa Rose dinner but ring in the NYE at the park you can do their earlier service, which had most of the same features as our meal (I don't think they had a pass appetizer and champagne hour, but same courses) but was less expensive and ended at 9pm so you would have plenty of time to eat and have a wonderful and get a good spot in the park.

i have been to DL/DCA for NYE for the past 4 years!! And let me tell you it is CRAZY!!! This past NYE was COMPLETELY INSANE!! I have never seen so many people in my life lol For the first time we went over to DCA to check out their celebration becaus eteh crowds were so crazy at DL.. Anyway over at DCA they have local radio stations' Djs playing music in certain areas and everyone dances and gets crazy! It was a lot of fun.. ifelt weird at first not being in DL but it was a ton of fun! They also have a mini firework show over the lagoon area...pretty small but MUCH less crowded than DL... Over at DL people were saving spots for the midnight countdown at Like NOON!! i looked at them and thought "NOT FOR ME!!" haha i'd rather just walk around and enjyo the day and then cram into the crowd when its closer to midnight..or head over to DCA for some dancing!! anyways i have done it many times now so if u have any other ?s feel free to ask!:cheer2: O ya and they pas out NYE hats and blowers to everyone before the celebration begins (they do this in both parks) On the map that day they will have a little party symbol where you can get yor hat/blower and at what time... but those places are liek mad houses as well so be warned!! haha
