From Twitter and various other reports online, it appears that Disneyland had to close its gates to new entries earlier tonight, Friday 10/9.

The first tweets about a possible closure began around 5:30PM. Earlier than that, even Annual Passholders were being told to get handstamps if they wished to be readmitted after leaving the Park. By 6:00, word was being sent out that the Park was closed.

Because of Mickey's Trick or Treat Party in DCA, there was nowhere for the overflow crowds to go, so all new entries -- including Annual Passholders -- were denied.

One report said the line for handstamp readmittance stretched clear across the Esplanade to DCA.

Once people began leaving after Halloween fireworks, the Park reopened its gates to those hearty souls who still wanted in.

Sounds like we won't have a chance of getting next Friday night for the second Fantasmic show. We'll be in San Diego during the day.

At 6pm it was wall to wall bodies at the HM. I was a little freaked out. We got out and over by astro orbitor and it was insane! We made our way to IASW and rode the train to the front and left before the Fireworks. I was happy to get out of there. :worship:

Geez...I never want to be there on a night like that. Especially when it is so warm
The worst we have was dec 23 and Fantasyland was a mass of humanity but the park hadn't reached capacity yet...I don't think? I didn't think to check when we got through wall to wall people.
As PP asked...has this happened in October before?

:)

Next Friday might not be as bad. Today is the start of a 3 day weekend for a lot of people (Monday is Columbus Day), so that might be the reason for the increased crowds.

monday, park hours are extended to 11. dca to 8.

Its suppose to get worse and worse and worse until nov. :|

I was there tonight. They sent us backstage behind the west side of Main St after Fantasmic and during the fireworks to get out (do they do this often? I'd never heard of it). It was a madhouse, but still fun.

Yes, I'm sure October will be very busy, but I still think that the next 2 Fridays may not be as bad as yesterday due to this 3 day weekend. I would be very surprised if the next 2 Fridays had full capacity crowds, but I guess we'll see. We'll be arriving in 8 days, so I hope it's a little better. :)

It was crowded! I didn't know the park hit capacity though. We re-entered Disneyland about 5:45 pm without issue. I agree that Adventureland was a nightmare. :scared: Wed. and Thursday were awesome and the crowd levels seemed to have doubled yesterday.

EEEK!:scared1: We are arriving Monday afternoon. Should I just plan on crazy on Monday and hope for the best? I was hoping most people would have to head home for work/school the next day. I will plan now that next Friday will be nuts :crowded: and we will just have to have lots of patience.

late June they sent us that route to get out during celebrate a street party. Twice. That was crazy for such a small production! :worship: last night was nuts, I imagine they had to pull out all the tricks to move bodies.

Monday will be extremely crowded still because of "Columbus/Indigenous Peoples Day" that a lot of people have off. However, after that, the crowds should die down a bit, but then I predict spikes in the crowds every weekend.

Perfect example of what a well done promotion can do. October 2005-off season......advertise Halloween a lot more......October 2008 and 2009-very very busy.

WOW! Has that ever happened in October before?

Truth be told, not in recent memory.

The seasonal offerings introduced by the Disneyland Resort for the Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort Special Event have proven to be very popular among Guests, much more than previously expected.

As an indicator of predicted crowd levels, let me just point out that Cast Members, Employees and Operating Participants of The Walt Disney Company and Affiliated Companies have just received new restrictions on their Complimentary Entry Benefits. Cast Members and Employees may not utilize their Complimentary Entry benefits on the following dates:
  • Friday, 9 October
  • Friday, 16 October
  • Friday, 23 October
  • Friday, 30 October
  • Saturday, 31 October

It should be assumed that the Theme Parks of the Disneyland Resort will be extremely busy on these days, and may reach capacity.

As always during busy times, please remember to obtain a Handstamp when leaving a Theme Park, as this will help to facilitate re-entry. In addition, Guests staying at one of the Hotels of the Disneyland Resort will continue to receive priority admission during peak attendance times (unless things have changed dramatically since I left).

Yes, we were there! You should have seen the line-ups for the bathrooms! But we managed to get Fablous seats for the parade with only a half hour wait. And fab seats for fantastic sitting on the ground right by reserved seating!

Oh my goodness! We were going to arrive at Disneyland tomorrow (Sunday) at 5. I hope we will allowed to enter. I guess I will wait to hear what the crowds are like today.............. We will be staying at Paradise Pier so does anyone know if we will be given priority entry?
