Hello everyone :cool2:

New to this forum, and will be visiting the Disneyland Resort for the first time this year for my birthday/Halloween.

I was wondering... Can anyone share their favorite tips, trivia and "secrets" . I only have two days at the parks, and want to enjoy them as much as possible. Thanks.

Moderators, I hope I'm not making a mistake if there is a similar thread on here already?

We have some folks around here who are great at this but I'll start.

There is an apartment above the fire station that was built for Walt. If the light in the window was on, it was code for the cast members that Walt was in the park. Ever since Walt passed, the light has remained on in his memory.

If you plan taking the train for a ride around the park, check first thing in the morning to see if the Lilly Belle will be out that day. You would board her at the train station and it is a full loop around the park, but there will be a maximum of 16 people in her and you will get a nice history of her as you go along. For many years this could be used only by Club 33 members, their guests, and VIPs but it has been to open to all for some time now.

(And don't be shocked at the size of the castle!!!)

I just got back from a whirlwind 46 hour trip to DL for the DL ½ marathon weekend.

•Take advantage of the single rider lines if you are touring solo.
•If you can wait to eat until later, dinner at The Plaza Inn is tasty and you can sit and enjoy the fireworks with a castle view--without staking out a spot early and having your limited park time tick away.
•A lot of DCA is under construction. I was told this multiple times and shrugged it off. It makes the park seem even smaller than it already is.
•If its within your budget, do the World of Color dining package at Ariel's Grotto. You will get preferred viewing for the show and not have to line up for a FastPass for it nor get to the general viewing area really early to line up to get in. Second show is far less crowded if they have two shows.
•Look at your park map and times guide, preferably before you go in the park, but also refresh your memory while waiting in line. Have some idea of what are your star attractions.
•The FastPass machines are not synced between the parks and the Roger Rabbit ride in Toontown in not on either parks' system, so you could effectively be holding three valid FastPasses at once. (If you had the park hopper option.)
•DL's Fantasmic puts the one at the Studios to shame.
•Downtown Disney is a better overall experience in California.
•Check out the Aladdin show in the Hyperion Theatre in DCA. It's a great show and gives you some down time to rest your feet.
•You have to go through bag check just like you do at WDW, but it is to enter the area where the park entrances are. They do not have a line for "No Bag" like they do at WDW and that can back you up.
•One of the bars in the Grand Californian, The Hearthstone Lounge, is extremely friendly. ;)

If you know anybody local that is an annual pass holder and wants to play tour guide, that is helpful too. Thanks Chrysty!
Chat up people in line too. You never know who is a cast member and wants to share the magic of their park. Thanks Ty!

After you enter the turnstiles, get your picture taken in front of the floral Mickey.
Walk under the train track on the left side and go to City Hall and get a birthday button to wear (free for the asking).
In Fantasyland, look up at the window above Snow White's Scary Adventure. My sister will make an appearance. Also, grab the golden apple when you enter the queue.
After walking over the drawbridge and through the castle, bear right through the opening and visit the wishing well. Also check out the statues on the hill.
Come back and go to the other side of the castle and do the castle walk through...enter next to the fountain.
In Indiana Jones, if a sign says don't pull or don't touch...pull it or touch it!
Read the tombstones at the Haunted Mansion.
Take the Columbia boat (visit below decks too) and the paddle wheel boat rides. Also visit the island (more for kids, but nicely themed). Skip the canoe ride unless you want to work up a sweat.
Visit the Enchanted Tiki Room...and don't forget the Dole Whip!

Above all...take your time and look at everything. There are tons of hidden gems all over the park. Be on the lookout for Hidden Mickeys.

:worship: Thank you so much. These are some great tips. :surfweb:

Let's keep them coming please. Anyone have any info on other freebies the CM may offer, such as if it's your birthday, or if you answer any trivia questions correctly?

I'm not sure what night it is on, I think Fridays, but you can swing dance at the Carnation Plaza Garden, or simply sit back and watch.

Now if I could only find a place that serves Martini's in that park! :lmao:

Unfortunately I believe this will be going away as that whole area is being reimagineered. :(

There is one great place for a martini though.....

Michael

Oh, by the way. We'll be staying at the Paradise Pier Hotel... Never stayed there before...anything fun we should know about the Hotel?

Oh, and we don't drink, so no martinis required. :thumbsup2

Even if you dont drink you should pop your head into the new bar at the Disneyland hotel. All of the bartenders are ex-Jungle Cruise skippers (so the story goes) and it's a hit!

It's been Saturday night for years.

I know of which you speak! ;) The Chocolate ones are my favorite for dessert!

However, I'm very sad to hear they will be taking this away! I can't imagine the locals being at all pleased with this! :sad2:

OK, back to the topic at hand. Some great suggestions so far! You must have a Monte Cristo Sandwich! If you want to pay $4 more for the ambience, have lunch at the Blue Bayou, otherwise, just get one at Cafe Orleans, and the pomme frites are excellent as well!

Also, if you like Kettle Corn, get the Caramel flavor from the stand in DTD between the GCH and the DLH, the one closer to the parks sells regular Kettle Corn, but other one sells Caramel flavor. It is INSANELY good, get the bigger bag, it's worth it!

And one treat you won't find at WDW is a Tigger Tail. You can get these at Pooh Corner in Critter Country. They are marshmallows on a stick with Orange (not flavored) coating and chocolate stripes. Tasty!

(Can you tell I'm into food?) :rolleyes1

I've heard great things about the Blue Bayou! Alas, it will be closed when we go, along with Pirates of the Caribbean :sad2:

Not too big on Kettle Corn, but we love BBQ, and authentic Mexican. I also have a weakness for great chocolate desserts as long as there is no caramel or coconut involved :thumbsup2

Great suggestions so far y'all. Let's keep'em comin'

we're doing the Halloween party on Oct 25. I'm excited about it.
I hear they have some souvenirs and such that they only offer at the party.

The parties at WDW have event exclusive merchandise, so I don't see why DL wouldn't follow suit.

Hmmmm. I'm still up in the air about attending the Halloween Party. I mean $50+ per person!! We've done the Christmas Party at WDW back in 2007, which I don't recall costing us that much, and that was a blast. Will anything else, like the Halloween Party, ever compare to it? Not so sure. :confused3
