Disneyland Allowance for kids

We have always given our daughter money to carry in a purse in her fanny pack while in DL or WDW. The dollar amount has altered as she gets older. The deal is we pay for virtually everything, but if she wants a icecream or some other snack when we havn't suggested it she has to buy her own and be prepared to pay for ours if we want one.
Its amazing how these days she only wants snacks when we suggest them. So no more I'm hungry, I want a lolly or icecream! :rotfl:

I am sooooo going to have to try this on our upcoming trip. :thumbsup2

We visited the parks for eight days. Before leaving our girls had saved $100 from chores, birthday gifts etc... We matched this amount. We gave the girls $10 a day to spend on whatever they liked. If it was all gone too bad... or they could accumulate it. They paid to have their faces painted and for balloons. After a day or two they got the idea.

When they saw things they liked that were over the daily allowance we made a note of what it was, how much it cost and where we saw it. On our second last day we went over the wish list and gave the girls the balance of their money. They worked out what was most important to them and we went on a spending spree.

Over the week the girls became tighter with their money. It was fine if mum or dad were paying for it, but if it was their money the item was not so important. We took the attitude if it is not important enough to spend your money then it can't be important to spend our money either.
