My dear friends,

DP and I are headed for Disneyland Oct 1-5, staying at Grand Californian.

1) We will not be renting a car. What will be the best and, hopefully, least expensive way to get from Orange County Airport to the hotel? Bruce can get in and out of a car as easily as one can when relying on walkers.

2) What is the best scooter rental? (mechurchlady mentioned a company in a post earlier this year but I never got the name)

3) Should we ask for an accessible room? Bruce doesn't think he'll need it but with a walker and a scooter, we may need the room.

Presumably, they have GAC's and guides at the parks but if you have any tips, we'd love to hear them.

Luv 'n' Stuff,

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information. Post #14 discusses Disneyland and has several useful links. It also gives the names and phone numbers of two locations which several people have used and recommend for ECV rental..

Or, if you want an easier route to the FAQs, click on the link in my signature.

Hello! I haven't checked this thread in some time, saw your post and thought I'd add a few thoughts. We went to DL in Dec 2007 with our sons (now 10), one of whom has cerebral palsy and uses his wheelchair or walker in the parks. We used the Disneyland Resort Express in both directions and it worked very well, with no problem taking Mark's manual wheelchair etc. (He can get up the steps with assistance from us and sit in a regular seat.

We also stayed at the Grand Californian and loved it! We spoiled ourselves with the concierge floor, which was lovely, but I suspect much more of a frill. Everything is so convenient, the quick service spot really fine, and the 2 on-site restaurants suited us very well.

We absolutely LOVED the compactness of DL and DCA. Two stories - one day, I forgot to sweatshirts for the boys (and it was cool when we were there). I realized this right at the bag check for DL. My husband walked - did not run - to the room and back in 12 minutes, including elevator time!!! We love WDW, but you can't rush back to your room! The other story - Mark's wheelchair had a flat and we had no spare tube (oops!). My husband took it to a local bike store for a new tube, but this was Saturday afternoon and the store did not re-open until Monday. Using his walker and the DL train, and with some assistance being pushed in his walker, plus lots of breaks, he was able to navigate his way around both DL and GCA in his walker.

If you love good (but pricey) food, try to Napa Rose. We ate their twice - once without the boys, once with...and these were our 2 best meals.

Enjoy your trip!
Alison
