Disneyland’s Mint Juleps

I want to make Mint Juleps for my daughter’s party and there are several recipes on the internet for Disneyland’s Mint Juleps. Some call for plain water while others call for Club Soda. I’ve never had one, so I was hoping one of you could tell me if I should use plain water or club soda.

The recipe I've seen/used uses Club Soda when making the syrup and then you dilute it using regular water. The drink is not bubbly, so I probably wouldn't use the club soda to dilute it. This is the recipe I use:

Strictly from curiosity, I wonder why club soda is used to make the syrup. I’m sure there is a good reason!

It's more like a Scope Palmer. You have to throw a splash of lemonade into your mouth rinse.

Personally, I don't think it tastes at all like Scope or any mouth wash. I dislike mouth wash, but I like the mint juleps. So they obviously don't taste anything like each other to me!

It probably has to do with something, like the minerals, that are in the club soda.
