Disney YES Program Open to non-groups

Thought you might want to see my thread I started a month ago with the same question. I was able to form a group and all with fellow Disboarders for a March trip! And this was actually suggested by the Y.E.S. program staff because I was in the same situation of not having enough children and not able to attend an open enrollment or homeschool days. If you read through the entire thread you will get so much information about forming your own group if it comes to that. Let me know if you have any questions. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2359690

Thanks for that, I'll read through that thread. This has given me renewed hope that we can pull off a Disney trip this fall. Not just because of the discount, but because we can justify it as an educational expense.

:rolleyes:there is always someone who wants to abuse a good thing.

abuse:confused3:confused3

I'm willing to pay for something I don't need, then GIVE it to someone who may be interested. (for example a family with APs) They don't need the tickets, but may have a child that would enjoy one of the classes. I don't need the class, but want to take advantage of the discounted tickets.

Abuse would be purchasing the tickets, signing up a child for a class, then not showing up.

Small world neighbor! I recently bought our autograph books from you (which the kids LOVED) and our Elf on a Shelf hehe! I'm sorry to hear your DD got sick, that stinks!

Ohh THANKS!!!

We did the food plan while we were there and I think that it was just too much food and desserts and snacks and it just upset her stomach. Of course, my son can eat anything! LOL

I hope they do it again in August - early September, so we can take advantage of a class or two. Would love to the the Motion class, (can't remember the name). With our last trip, there was only one day available on the last day of our trip, and the one we originally signed up for was cancelled because not enough people signed up, so we were able to switch to the Animal Kingdom class, and then didn't get to go.

At least I read that it was the least favored class, which made me feel a little better having missed it, if you know what I mean.

A few quick question about groups.

Can you join a group if you're not interested in the youth classes?

I'm planning an adult trip the week after Labor Day so we just want the discounted tickets, not the classes.

If we are able to join a group, and must purchase a youth class, can we give the class away?

I have not yet signed up for any of the classes, but the way I read it is you can get a ticket for each child registered for a class and for one adult per child.

I may be mistaken, but I assumed that for my family if I signed up my two older children I could buy 4 tickets (two for them and two for DH & I) and would then purchase a regular ticket for our other child who is too young for the classes.

Since you're doing an adult only trip, I don't see how you could get the tickets without signing children up for the classes. (Also, are the tickets specific to adult/child or are they the same for any age?)

sure. Abuse would be people taking advantage of a discount meant for students and parents/guardians when they are neither. You aren't paying for something you don't get, you are saving money if you purchase through the program.

Just called the YES Program and spoke to someone in sales. I told her what I wanted to do and was put on hold for a bit.

You can't purchase the tickets without signing a child up for a class.

Ticket prices are the same for adults and children.

I can sign a child up that isn't traveling with me.

Of course I am. The ticket prices are great.:confused3

If I purchase the tickets, a student and his/her parent/guardian will attend the class.

What provisions are made for our chaperones?
TWO (2) complimentary chaperone packages are provided for each of your groups purchasing Disney Y.E.S. multi-day packages. Also, for every one paying student, one chaperone may purchase the corresponding Disney Y.E.S. package at the student price.

When the number of your chaperones exceeds the above guidelines, any additional chaperones are charged the current, front-gate admission price. If there is a change in the number of your paying students at the time of purchase, your group must recalculate its chaperone numbers to maintain correct ratios. All of your chaperones may purchase corresponding recreation and dining add-on options at the student rate.

Each of your groups must be accompanied by at least one chaperone. We recommend at least ONE chaperone for every 15 youths in your group. NOT the people just trying to save a buck.

If there are extra adults they pay full price. so the actual parents and people who the program is made for would get the discounted tickets in a group situation.

You are correct if you are purchasing tickets for a regular Y.E.S. class but if you are participating in the Y.E.S. Open Enrollment all you need is one child attending the class and all other members of your traveling party can get tickets at the discounted price. They have a lot of class options from ages Kindergarten-12th grade. It is a wonderful fun educational opportunity for any child. :)

These rules apply only to those participating in a Regular 10+ Y.E.S. Group. It does not apply to the Y.E.S. Open Enrollment Event. :)

true. she asked about joining a group. there is nothing to stop people from abusing the open enrollment.

I totally agree. It is so sad when people try to abuse the system. Especially when it involves children. :(

As a homeschooler, i really hope they open this up again next January. We've never been able to participate as an entire family before. If people abuse it, then it will be ruined for a lot of kids. Just look at the ones on this thread that were able to participate.

Thanks for the info. I thought it was only one extra ticket per participating child, so we would have to purchase a regular priced ticket for our 3yo. Glad to know I can get discounted tickets for the whole family if my school-aged girls do a class.

We decided not to do Disney this year to do some home renovations instead. Hopefully this program will be offered next year when we're planning our trip. :upsidedow

I love that they are offering open enrollment more. I had to form my own group of 10 because we will be there during a non-open enrollment month and with that we can only have 1 chaperone per 5 children so all of us parents will not be able to join in. But I would love to go back again when they offer another open enrollment so that we can participate as a family experiance. I'm keeping my fingers crossed LOL.

Has anyone had a child do the "Leadership Excellence"
and the "World of Physics, Energy and Waves"?
These are the 2 we are interested in registering for.

Also, what happens if they do not get enough enrollment in the class? Do they then re-schedule it for a later date? Do they give you "Notice" of canceling the class? How far out? DO they then give a refund (we'll pay extra for the second class)?
We'll be in Disney for 2 weeks, but those were only ones the ds wants to do. I REALLY hope they have enough kids!!!!

Anyone??:confused3

We were only there for 3 days, and the class we had originally signed up for did not fill up. They called me about 2 weeks before to tell me, and we were able to switch to another class. I assume that if you don't want to switch to a different class, they would give you a refund.

Thanks, the 2 classes are back to back, but if I depend on those two and can't get him in another, that will really be disappointing if they/one gets canceled.
Heres hoping he even gets in............

I REALLYhope they extend open enrollment into the beginning of August when we will be there. But.....if they don't I am willing to travel down early with my DD and her friend for a class or two. Does anyone know how long the tickets are good for after the first use. The rest of the family is coming down the following week and I would like to save some days on the passes to visit the parks with them.
