Disney World Workers Among 22 Nabbed in Child-Sex Sting

A sting operation by Florida police has led to the arrest of 22 men who sought children online for sex, officials said Wednesday.

Dubbed operation “Be Mine,” detectives occupied a vacant house in the Orlando area and posed as children or the parents of children in online chat rooms.

When suspects solicited the officers, arrangements were made to meet at the home for sex acts, police said.

As the suspects arrived at the Clermont home, they were taken into custody, a news release from the Lake County, Fla., sheriff’s office said.

Three of the men arrested — Patrick Holgerson, 32, Joel Torres, 32, and Robert Kingsolver, 49, — were identified as Walt Disney World employees by police.

Marilyn Waters, a Disney spokeswoman, told NBC News Wednesday night that all of the men have been placed on unpaid leave pending the outcome of the charges.

Torres allegedly brought condoms with him to the home where he thought he would have sex with a 14-year-old, police said.

Alexander Vorobets, a 27-year-old employee of Rachel Strip Club in Orlando, brought a Happy Meal and condoms to meet a child of 13, according to the sheriff’s office.

Another suspect, Belal Shofique, 33, was identified by police as an Orange County paramedic.

Other suspects brought candy, necklaces and marijuana, police said.

Also arrested was 47-year-old David Griffith of Minneola, Fla., who told investigators he had recently made plans to have sex with a 7-year-old in another county, police said.

Officers tracked down emails between Griffith and the child's mother. After an investigation, the child was found. It was later learned the mother of the 7-year-old had sexually abused her, according to police. That case was still being investigated.

“It is somewhat discouraging, but I will tell you as long as those bad guys are out there trying to target our children here in this county we will continue to do these operations,” Lake County Sheriff Gary Borders told NBC station WESH in Orlando.

I agree this is sad and disgusting!! Reading it I am sick to my stomach. I wonder where they worked in WDW. Stay alert parents even in WDW because you never know. It really is a scary world we live in!!

Sadly, it's hard to tell who these people are until they're caught. Background checks and interviews can only go so far to vet individuals. There are probably more at WDW. However, they are also in every workplace and in every industry. From teachers, to janitors, to elected officials, to sadly, Disney...

With the large number of Disney Cast Members there are bound to be some child predators out there. There are also bound to be many predators who visit the parks. People should always be aware of this when visiting Disney World. Terrible things can happen anywhere. (I am a social worker and I worked with Children and Family Services for several years so I know!)

It's scary that they come into your home through the computer when you think your children are safe. That poor little 7 yr old not only is the nut of a mother abusing her but bringing in other people to do it as well! I hope she rots in Hell!

Well , Nothing has happened at Disney, 3 guys have been charged(I would think likely guilty, but not tried).

The point is these sickos can be found anywhere and I agree I wouldn't let my young kids out of my sight.

Kudos and a big thank you to the officers involved. My uncle was involved in tracking some child predators during his stint in the FBI. What they see is horrific. News accounts only scratch the surface.

A reminder that evil can be every where, including the happiest place on earth.

Calling you a horrible mother is way over the line for being protective...

That being said....


These guys weren't trying abduct and molest kids and teens in the parks. They solicited sex with minors off a website. AFAIk, there are no allegations of anyone being molested or raped by these men in the parks.

I can't think of very many incidents that have happen of a sexually criminal nature in the parks... Only one comes to mind.

I have no issue with you not wanting to let your son stand alone. I'm just saying, this DIDNT happen at Disney and wasn't done as random grab by a criminal.

Now hopefully these men spend substantial time in jail.

To their credit Disney trespasses known sex offenders. While some of that is overboard (certain states you can get on the list for public urination or statutory rape when it's like a 17 and 15 year old), for child predators it's a very good thing.

However, let me say this: I don't see an instance in the parks where a worker is 100% alone with a child. Either through surveillance cameras or other workers, it will be difficult for a worker to do anything. That's why they were nabbed in some sting operation- they can't do anything at work.

I have strong doubts that would be the place they'd choose. To me it ignores much of the psychology of a child predator.

From what I've read on the subject, most are wired to see their behavior as a reasonable and "normal" behavior... Much like normal people dating. They'd want access to the same children over a period of time to gain their trust... They would not have that at Disney. (Again not saying that it couldn't happen but saying there would be more appealing places to them)... Instead, many would choose a place they had access to the same kids regularly.... At least that's how I interpreted the literature I've read on the subject.

Not sure if that last part was saracism or not.... It stated in the bio of one of the WDW employees that he was also charged with not stating that he was in fact HIV positive
