Disney World Remembers: Lost Rides And Attractions

awesome link :thumbsup2

I've been telling my family my first trip to WDW was nothing like they get to see -- I think they'll finally get that now.

But I do miss some of those rides -- my favourite will always be the SkyWay, which I got to see in a link from your link -- a 1981 video of MK.

Thanks so much. Those were, indeed, the GOOD old days, when the parks weren't belly-to-back, like they are now.

Being younger It's nice to look back. I was hoping it would have some things on epcot. I think The body pavillion was still open on my first trip (I was 3) but I don't remember much about it. Everyone on here always mentions they miss body wars and it would be great to know what that was like.

My old man always had me convinced Mission to Mars was a real space ship. I carry on the tradition by making my nephew fear looking in to the eyes on Indiana Jones.

If you like this, check out yesterland.com. It's Disneyland-centric, but has a lot of WDW info as well...

I remember world of motion and horizons from when i went in 88 when i was 9. I loved those. They were cutting edge back then. Now looking at them, i laugh. Still miss em though. And Alien encounter was cool when I went in 2002.

Horizons was my favorite as a kid growing up in the 80s/90s. And the original Imagination with the Dream Finder. :(

Reminds me of a rumor that comes out here and there. All the retired rides will be revived. They will be used in the 5th gate.

that would kinda be very cool, but then you remember that all these retired rides were retired for a reason (costs, health and safety, parts, lack of interest), and those reasons will still exist for almost every attraction.

however, one single some kinda nostalgia attraction covering all the classic attractions (even if its just some kinda theatre/film/walkthrough) would be kinda cool. The risk would be that it would also highlight the decline in creativity and quality within the parks though!

Anyone noticenthat the hidden mickey in haunted mansion on the bottow left place setting was not there in that video?

I remember Horizon's as a kid and wish they still had that ride! :rotfl: When it "arrives in the 21st century" they could change that to the 22nd century and make a more updated changes, although most of what they talked about for the 21st century back then, is still more advanced than some of the things we have now! I watch it often on youtube while I exercise! :rotfl2:

as well and dreamfinder along with the swan boats and if you had wings.

Every time I think about Horizons it remonds me of my dad who was an architect on it and Spaceship earth but never got to see either one...

I'd love to have ridden Horizons again...we only got to ride it once, not long before it closed. But I got a first-hand example why - it broke down while we were on it, and we were trapped in one of the omnimax dome projection areas where the film kept swooping down on the city...over, and over, and over...for about 20 minutes. Even someone not susceptible to motion sickness was starting to feel it...

(random trivia - those screens now make up the screens in Soarin')

One of this week's WDW Today podcasts mentioned Horizons - either Scopa or Newell I think put out a prediction that Horizons might return in some form in Tomorrowland...but that seemed like a pretty far out prediction...

Was at my mothers yesterday and we busted out the old slide projector. Kids were amazed at the old pictures we had of the skyride at MK as well as 20000 leagues under the sea. Reminded me of how special those trips were when I was a kid.
