Disney World or Disney Cruise...what makes you choose?

Good afternoon my favorite people!

You were given the choice between a seven night stay at Walt Disney World or a seven night Disney cruise...what would you choose?? Now I know it would be ideal to do both :p

However if you had the choice between land or sea which one do you do and what factors go into determining your preference??

I think my decision would depend on a number of factors:

I've never been on a Disney cruise (or any cruise, for that matter). I have been to WDW way more times than I can count. I feel like, for the moment, I've done most everything that I want to do at WDW. The only things that I really want to do but haven't are minor, like eating at some restaurants. Add in the massive construction at DHS, the cancellation of SWW (an annual event for us), and the difficulty of getting the FP's that I want, particularly when the new things like Pandora, Frozen, and Soarin reboot open, and I can make a solid case for trying something new, even though it would cost us much more than a WDW stay. We like vacationing with Disney and are confident in a quality experience. If we could make it on one of the Star Wars themed sailings, that would sweeten the pot for DH!

On the other hand, for my family, right now, I'm uncertain about DCL being right for DS3. He would likely not be comfortable with kids' activities that take him away from his parents. As the cost of these amenities are factored into the cost of the cruise, it would be money wasted. However, when he is older and ready for the kids' experiences, I'm sure DS and DH will really want to go to WDW instead of on a cruise because Star Wars Land will be open. So it's an issue of timing.

Sorry that I offer no real help to you, OP, but it was a fun question to ponder.

For an adult only vacation ( I know you don't have kids), I'd say it depends on what you want from your vacation. We've done a lot of Disney vacations, and love them. And we've done a fair bit of cruising, and love them too. But we won't do a Disney cruise again. Disney cruises are by far the most expensive of the mass market cruise lines, and you're paying twice as much ( and more likely more) just for the Disney branding. If you need to see Disney characters at every turn, that's fine. I'd rather have better food and drinks, and entertainment geared towards adults in the evening.

As an example, we will be doing a 14 day cruise on Celebrity, in a concierge class cabin, for half the price of a 7 day Disney cruise in a standard balcony cabin. Of course prices can vary considerably depending on dates and itinerary. I think Disney cruises are fine for families, but we cruise for the ports and for the more traditional shipboard experience.

The best vacation we ever had was a week at WDW followed by a week cruise to the Eastern Caribbean ( not on a Disney ship). But if we have to make a choice, we usually alternate between them.

WDW, hands down.

I like WDW. I like cruising. I have no desire to combine the two, especially given that the price for a Disney cruise is outrageously expensive.
