Hello All!
In July I will be going to Disney World for 5 days and then on a Disney Cruise for another 4. I am totally psyched! I had a major spinal fusion about 4 weeks ago and although I have use of my legs...it is very limited. I am just about at the point where I can walk around for periods of about five minutes, maximum. I am hoping that by July I will be able to walk a little bit more but probably not much more than ten minutes at a time. I have booked all handicapped accessible rooms (resort and cruise). I want to rent a wheelchair because it sounds less stressfull than a scooter. It sounds like boarding the buses and rides is easier with a wheelchair. Is this true? Also, is it possible to rent a wheelchair near Disney World and have it picked up by the cruise port? I have had so much time on my hands lately and have read so many of the posts here and have compiled a lot of notes! Thanks for the great advice. I am looking forward to your responses to my questions! Thanks so much! :yay:

Will you have someone in your party to push a manual w/c? Otherwise I'd suggest an ECV for more independence and an easier time in the parks. It shouldn't be more of an effort to load an ECV vs. a w/c into the busses. I'd call DCL directly to ask for a vendor name that delivers both to WDW and DCL, then you could use the chair at both and then have it picked up at the end of the cruise. Hope you have a wonderful vacation-sounds like you deserve it after the surgery and recovery.---Kathy

Thanks so much for the info! I am traveling with someone that is willing to push me but I think you are right about getting the ecv, especially if there isnt much of a difference as far as loading the buses, etc. I think I will rent the ecv for the parks and then rent separately for the cruise. Thank you, thank you!

make sure you tell them you will need a sandchair. My Ds is in a wheelchair and they had a sandwheelchair waiting for us when we got off the ship. It was GREAT!!!! I think that even if you are able to walk this will help on the uneven sand etc.Have a great time
