Disney World and Other Vacations

  • How often do you go to Disney World?
  • How old are your kids (if any)?
  • Where else do you travel? Or type of vacation?

We go to WDW either once or twice a year for around 4-5 weeks in total. We've been going since my daughter was 4 and she is now 20; she still loves going to WDW. WDW is mine and my daughters favorite vacation destination, but to keep the wife happy we've also done cruises and driving holidays (the wife loves driving holidays). Does going to Universal count as a different type of vacation!

We travel frequently. We do 1-2 vacations to various locations a month ranging from a long weekend to a week or more. We do Disney 4-5 times a year...usually 1-2 8+ nights and the rest 3-5 nights. My husband travels a good bit internationally for work (gone 2 weeks out of the month) so sometimes we will meet him for a few days. For fun we've done weekends in DC, Boston, williamsburg, new Orleans, San Francisco, San Diego, savannah, a couple cruises and a week in Jamaica this year. This summer we are planning to visit the Dominican Republic, Disney and St. Thomas.

we usually are able to use delta skymiles for flights but we admittedly spend quite a bit on travel.

Just a fun post to see how other families vacation. Obviously posters on here love Disney. I got the bug myself after our first trip. But the fact is, Disney ain't cheap...and it makes a difference how far you live from Orlando (I.e. Can you drive to save on flight)?

So I'm wondering

We went to Disney World for the first time October 2014 when our kids were 9 and 5.
Our next trip is a Royal Caribbean cruise spring 2016 (kids will be 10.5 and 6.5).
I'm thinking that the trip after that will be Disney World again late 2017 or 2018.

These trips cost us around $7K (vacation plus flight), which is why we're looking at one big trip every two years.

Having lived (well had a residence) in Florida my entire life we got to Disney at least three to four times per year for the better part of 20 years. My dad took me on my first trip in 1989 and from there on out, it was our father/son trips at any time we could go. We would stay 14 nights every summer, followed by long weekends, Spring Breaks, Thanksgiving, etc. So we would be at Disney for a good month each year in total.

We were able to drive so that saved and we stayed at the same hotel at the time called the Grosvenor Resort (now Wyndham LBV) on Hotel Plaza Blvd. We got an amazing rate for staying there so much it was a no-brainer for my dad who pretty much paid for everything.

Now that we live here in Orlando, we go pretty much every week/weekend. So I guess you can't count me in on that one :)

We have no kids just two dogs

Other than Disney I have been on holiday to the following locations:

London, England
Paris, France
Hollywood, Northern Ireland
Rota & Seville, Spain
Messina, Italy
Stuttgart, Germany
Nassau, Bahamas
Napa, California
St. Croix, St. Thomas, Bahamas (cruise)
Progresso & Cozumel, Mexico (cruise) [twice]
Bermuda (cruise)

I first went to WDW in 2006. We went as a family for my high school graduation. It was so much fun and I planned it all by myself. My family was so surprised at how seamless everything was: DME, resort check-in, and the dining plan (back in the good ol' days of appetizer & tip included)./

It was a LONG 6 years later that I went back in 2012. I treated myself to a solo trip for my college graduation. While it was fun to do whatever I wanted, I also missed sharing the magic with my family

We (my sister, her DH and I) planned to go in 2013 but then my sister found out she was pregnant so we decided that when the baby was 18 months old we would finally visit.

SO! That brings us to my 3rd trip which is planned for this September.
As you can see, big gaps between trips because of price and extenuating circumstances.

As far as other vacations, I've visited my sister & her family in KY and then in GA. When they visit, we do weekend beach trips. Last summer, I chaperoned my sister's 8th grade trip to Washington D.C.

I do plan on booking for next late summer/fall if the bounce back offer is free dining. I've wanted to do a trip with just me and my little sister so I'm hoping we can work that out next year.
