Hi
I am wondering if anyone has any advise, tips or tricks I can try. I know swimming, steam showers, sauna, whirlpools are out of the picture.
I know the sun should help this skin condition, but what kind of sunscreen do you use?
Any info would be appreciated, even a just go and don't worry you'll have a great time would be helpful.I am a bit self conscious of the sores and rash on my legs.
Hugs Mel

I think neutrogena makes sunscreen for sensitive skin, never tried it but I love their regular sunscreen

Use a sunscreen with a physical blocker like titanium dioxide or zinc oxide. These ingredients are more hypoallergenic than chemical blockers like oxybenzone. Brands like JASON and Kiss My Face have physical (sometimes called mineral) blockers, and you can find them on Amazon or in a Whole Foods store if you have one nearby. My DD5's has improved a lot since she was a baby but we still have issues, especially with her hands and arms. When she was much younger, she wore long-sleeved rash guards with built-in SPF 50 fabric when we were out in the sun so I didn't have to use sunscreen. You could wear lightweight cotton long pants if you are self-conscious about your rash and they will also protect you from the sun, but you definitely should just go and have a good time!

Many people find the chlorine from pools help things (if asked off and lotioned after). Kind of like bleach baths. My kiddo actually improved after our vacation.

For sunscreen we use Vanicream sunscreen. We use the regular for everyday lotion here at our derms recommendation.

For sunscreen (and shampoo, conditioner and moisturizing cream; also hair spray and shave gel) I use Vanicream (US) or Cliniderm (Canada).

Bring your own sheets and pillowcases for wherever you're staying. My kid's eczema was much worse sleeping on the laundered sheets at the hotel. I sent my husband to buy sheets and his skin cleared up. I'm packing sheets and pillowcases from now on.

1) I find that for most health conditions, a liberal application of a Single Malt Scotch, applied internally, helps.
2) Frequently, it works like a wonder-drug, or at least appears to.

Hi
Thanks for the suggestion,I am going to try and get into see my Dermatologist before i leave next weekend and see what he says. My skin is so sensitive that all I've been able to use is Glaxal Base and Vaseline. I lost quite a bit of skin last Summer and Fall due to a severe reaction to IV antibiotics (mild case of Steven Johnson Syndrome",so much of my skin is new and never exposed to sunlight,I will have to go slowly exposing it. I might even get a hat,I've never worn one before.lol
Take care

Hi
Thanks for the info on the specific ingredients,I never thought I'd be so concerned about lotions and potions as I've become.
I am going to take some cotton pants with me,I've never had to do this in March but I kind of want them just in case I feel self conscious.I am also taking a few light weight cotton hoodies.
Thanks for the encouragement

Hi
I have been reading everything I can find on the internet about water activities,I kind of think this may be a trial and error situation,I am hoping that if I rinse off well that swimming or 5 min in the hot tub will be ok. I know the hot tub maybe over doing it as the heat may make the rash itchy. Funny I never would of imagined in a million years that I would take a bleach bath but never say never,I've even tried apple cider vinegar baths.
I will ask about the Vanicream (Cliniderm) sunscreen.
Thanks

I was sensitive to hotel sheets before all of this started so I think this is a great suggestion.
Thanks

Cliniderm website: http://www.cliniderm.ca/

Stores like Shoppers Drug Mart sell it (they have it in their beauty section, it is on the shelf with the expensive creams and cosmetics). Around here, Loblaws and Walmart and Costco all have the shampoo and conditioner and sometimes one of the creams sold behind the counter at the pharmacy (because of the cost).

Also, the online site well.ca sells it, and often has it on sale.

WARNING: the stuff is NOT cheap :-(

I also have problems with the sheets/linens at hotels. Plus, the lack of allergen barrier to the mattress. I discovered Allersacs, bought one via Costco's website, and now travel without difficulty. Gives a barrier to the bedding, and gives a barrier to the allergens (though the rest of the bed is still there, so it is not the same as a proper mattress encasement). http://www.allersac.com/

Takes up space our the luggage, but I am just resigned to having two checked bags. (it rolls well, and I use a Ziploc Big Bag to put it in, squeezing as much air out as possible; both reduces space and protects the rest of our items from anything that may be on it).

We also put the do not disturb sign on our door and don't worry about housekeeping.

1) If not an actual sitting-activity, after a liberal application of it, one DOES feel Like sitting around the pool.
2) I totally forgot about that other medicinal benefit.
. . . nt only sdoes it reduce the effect of the illness, it causes you to gain you daily does of vitamin D
3) Thanks for bringing it to mind.
4) After all, Scotch does contain three of the four basic food groups.
5) Now, if they only could find a way to infuse it with protein . . .
