No price hike for Disney this summer

Walt Disney World Resort President Al Weiss pulled the plug on summer price increases on Thursday, saying at a press conference, "We will not raise ticket prices this summer."

At the media event, Disney representatives unveiled nearly a dozen additions to the attraction's lineup of events, attractions and activities, including the new attraction Primeval Whirl at Animal Kingdom.

Other announcements included lower-priced ticket packages for Florida residents, a new musical show at Epcot and a new Hasbro toy store at Downtown Disney featuring customized toys and games, with Walt Disney World attractions and characters dropping into board games such as Clue, Sorry and Monopoly. Events include the Epcot Flower and Garden Show, opening a six-week run on Friday, a new high-tech, multi-lingual audio device for non-English speaking guests, new cruise routes for the Disney Cruise Line and a revamped Epcot ride featuring a purple dragon named Figment.

But the price issue -- or the lack of it -- was the big news.

"We know families have been impacted by the economy," said Weiss, noting that the combination of stable prices and more things to do insures that Walt Disney World, "remains an outstanding vacation value."

In March, Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure saw an earlier price increase by SeaWorld January 23 and raised the single-day adult admission by $2 to $49.95, before tax. Disney's one-day adult ticket will remain at $48.

Ticket price poker began in 1993 when Disney and Universal began a see-saw price hike -- usually announced within a few days of each other. Last year, SeaWorld announced the price hike first -- only to be followed by the other two parks.

On Thursday, Burbank, Calif.-based The Walt Disney Co. (NYSE: DIS) stock closed at $24.40 per share. Its 52-week range is $15.50 to $34.80.

Good news for budgets! Every little bit helps!
