It was 2004 our first sailing sept 19th. Me and the kids (not sure if my mIL got affected) got bitten, but dh got attacked. They're so small you can't see them. This is one item I was not to forget to purchase. Not only that, but my dh got sunburnt to boot. DH took the kids Benadryl to remedy some swelling, but it was like seeing a bunch of mosquito bites on him in clumps.

Here's some sea lice links:

I'm not sure if these sea lice are seasonal or what. I'll have to read these threads as well. I'm going to pack it for insurance.
It sounds absoutely horrible! I've been diving in the Bahamas, Cayman Islands, as well as Florida, NJ, & Rhode Island and I've never experienced anything like that. I will say though, if it's going to happen to anyone, it will happen to me.

You've been lucky. I should say things happen to me. :eeyore:

Sleep....I remember sleep. Since DD has started 1st grade she has woken up every night at some point between 1 and 3. One night it's a bad dream, another night her leg hurt, etc. I hate having interrupted sleep, I feel like I am not getting any rest. Ugggh!

I guess so! A lot of internalizing going on. :confused3 Her teacher this year is pretty strict, as opposed to her carefree Kindergarten teacher who laughed at her when she stood on her chair and danced the hula! :rotfl: It's a rude awakening now. No more fun, this is FIRST grade where we buckle down and act like 20 year olds! :lmao:

I know what you mean, my son is going to experience a great awakening his first week. We'll see how he ducks not getting red dots. :duck:

:rotfl2: Her progress report for this week had two S- grades, one for conduct and one for following directions. Like mother like daughter I guess. :lmao: Then again, she got an S+ for participation in group discussion. Do we see a similarity here? :teeth: Imagine THAT! :rotfl: (We've never done S+ or S- before so I had to stop and think about what it meant. The S is for SATISFACTORY, there is also N for NEEDS IMPROVEMENT and U for UNSATISFACTORY. I am glad she got the S's.)

I start volunteering on Monday. That will give me a much better feel for what exactly goes on in that class.

Well, I called it a progress report for lack of a better term. A summary of the week I guess is a better name for it. A teacher/parent communication sheet.

You know how it is, a new teacher for us parents as well as the kids. We have to learn what they're all about too. Easier to dodge the system that way. :rotfl2:

Me too, I'll be volunteering on Tues and thus. for the same reason.

I did get a chance to speak to someone in the attendance office at the high school today. She told me to write a note explaining the absence and have the kids take it down to the attendance office first. She'll sign off on it and then they bring it to each of their teachers who will sign off and put together a packet of makeup work. Sounds good to me. :thumbsup2 After reading some of the horror stories that other DIS folk experience when requesting the excused absence, I'd say we're pretty lucky! :thumbsup2

I don't know, that's pretty quick to evaluate a child. But then again, we'll see what happens two weeks later with my kids class'. :teacher:

I'm hungry...sure wish we had something chocolatey kicking around here.

I guess it'd be a good idea for me to GO TO BED instead of worrying about eating. ;)

The sheet has columns with the first 10 weeks of school listed on them. I guess she sends this home weekly to keep us informed of their progress. We have a reading program called Accelerated Reader (A.R.) here. The kids get a point goal and they read and test on books within their assigned reading level. This sheet also indicates their goal and what their percentage is each week. At least she's thorough with the communication.
