Disney Wonder March 20th 2011 sailing

I expect school to be closed tomorrow as well. Probably Wednesday too if we get all they say we will, plus the winds.

I just need them to get the roads plowed before Wednesday night because we have ticket for Mary Poppins. The Broadway tour is in town and I've had tickets since this summer.

Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down in a most delightful way!

Is anyone going all out with Pirate costumes? I got overexcited and bought us all pirate costumes on clearance after Halloween. Now, I am wondering if it's a little much... More to pack, and I might feel more comfortable in just a pirate tshirt, instead of the whole costume. I would still bring the costumes for our girls, but maybe not for DH and me?

How many adults are in costume? Will any of you be? pirate:

Oh, I hope you get to go! Mary Poppins is one of our favorites! DD would love to go see that. Maybe it will come to Portland someday.

Have fun!

DD refuses to dress like a pirate! It's a boy's costume she says. Even the ones that are made for girls. So, she dressed like the princess from pirates of the caribbean.

I think your kids will have a blast dressing up! Just be warned though that there is a lot of dancing and jumping so they might get sweaty.

It is--June 22-July 10, 2011. I don't think tickets are on sale yet.

We have talked about it, but I can't find anything inexpensive enough that makes me want to do it. We are definitely wearing POC shirts, and both kids have pirate Mickey ears that they are planning to wear. Hubby and I will probably wear bandannas and that will be the extent.

Last time I danced so much at the pirate party, I should have brought a sweat band. I really worked off my dinner. :goodvibes

Guess I'd better ramp up the Zumba! LOL:banana:

I love Zumba. I told my husband he should come to class so he would know how to dance on the cruise. He said no. Cranky!

He's also too cranky to dress up for Pirate night, but there were several adults dressed up at our last cruise.

Has anyone been able to confirm if the Wonder now has an area for tweens (11-13) set up? I know the 1st MR cruise just returned and I am dying to know if this was available. My dd 11 is not wanting to be stuck with her much younger sisters the entire cruise and as she is not old enough for the teen club, I was really hoping this came through.

Yes, it was up and running on the Panama Canal cruise and the Cruise to Nowhere, it's a small club, but it does have activities, etc.

I'm really bummed because my daughter is 3 months from turning 11 and I have heard that they won't let her move up to the tween club. I wish they would make it more by grade level than by age, because it seems that she's always paying the price for having a late birthday.

I would ask them again. This is not the teen club we are talking about. It's the tween club. The should let her in! Explain to them that she will be bored to death with the younger kids.

Are they really that strict about it? That is too bad. I assume your dd is in 5th grade like mine? It would seem appropriate to let her stay with her grade level.

At least that's what they have said on the one thread about the tween clubs that I read. I am going to talk with the counselors once we board to see if it would be possible for her to move up. I do think it will depend on the programming for her, and I'm sure it will depend on space and number of tweens registered for the cruise.

This is our first Disney cruise, and I know if they don't have good choices in the tween club (she's not into video games at all) then she'll be happy in the kids' club. My son (who is 12) is very excited about the tween club, no matter what the programming.

They do and it looks very nice. We were in it during the PC and 2 day. DD did not find much to do though as she was hoping for a little more hands on stuff and most of it was video games. She had more fun with things going on around the ship. It was nice she got to use it since as of yesterday - she will now be in Vibe.

My DS is in 5th grade. He had a great time in the kids club on the Wonder in November. In fact, he turns 11 the week before the cruise but I think I would prefer to keep him in the kids clubs. They grow up so fast, anyway. There were also the out and about series for 10-12s that he liked as well. They had a lot of free choice of activities in the club, he would note stuff he really wanted to do (like Flubber), and otherwise he could do the free choice stuff. He even came in one night later than my teen! He met another boy his age at the meet and they hung out together a good bit, and would call each other to go to the club together. I think the kids meet we are having is a great idea! :thumbsup2 It will really make it more fun if they "know" someone already.

My DD did the tween club on the Magic. She was in 7th grade and it was definitely geared towards junior high/middle schoolers. You may want to keep that in mind when thinking about placing your child. You would have to feel comfortable with your 5th grader hanging out with 7th and 8th graders. Also there is no check in/check out in the tween club, it's all just come whenever you want, the counselors won't be keeping track of the kids. I know what I have read before said if they are within 30 days of their birthday it's not a problem. I've also read that if it was a little more than that but they were moving up to stay with a sibling that has sometimes been accommodated as well.

Hey all! I've been getting your PMs about the kids meet 2:30 day 1 in the promenade lounge. If you haven't sent me a message yet, please do. The meet is open to all even those cruising without kids. You can also attend w/o sending me any info. Conversely, sending me your PM does not mean it's set in stone. I understand plans change right up to the last minute and that is okay. I'm trying to get an estimate of the number of kids, genders, and ages so I can get a little something for the kids. Now, if 200 kids are attending, I may have to rethink my plan.

I'm so confused about the clubs now! :confused3 We've been on three Disney cruises already, so it's not like we're new...but they keep changing it up! I thought they said that they DID rearrange the age levels to more closely match grade levels...lower elementary(grades K-2) in the Club, upper elementary (grades 3-5) in the Lab, middle school (grades 6-8) in the Edge, and high school (grades 9-12) in the Teen Club. Is that not what's going on?

It's by age, not grade. So tween is 11-13, teen is 14-18. But youre right, thr "focus" for the activities is the grades you talked about.

The lab/club is now one big group, up to age 10. They don't make kids change from club to lab at age 8 or 9, whatever it was before. Now they just have different activities going on, some geared to really young kids, some more to older. I think they did away with those restrictions in the Club so that siblings who were say 7 and 9 could do the same activities, if they wanted to. At first there was a lot of uproar over it and some were worried that the little kids would try to join in with all the older kids, but I don't think that's actually been a problem. The programming stayed the same, kids were just free to choose what activity they wanted regardless of age. My son liked it more than his previous times in the club! HTH. :goodvibes
