So...I can't believe our cruise is almost here! In a little over 4 weeks we will be sailing the Wonder for 5 nights. Taking the kids(7 & 11) and grandparents with us. This is our first cruise EVER!!! It's a mix of excitement and nerves at the same time. We booked about 11 months ago and I've probably read every blog out there and every review as well. Basically an overload of information. I'm concerned about the latest reviews on the Wonder(they are mostly bad). Can anyone ease my fears?? I don't know what to expect and my anxiety is getting to me

We just got off the Wonder in early January. I thought she was a fantastic ship and I wouldn't hesitate to sail on her again. I do think that the bathrooms are starting to show their age, but it's not a big deal. I think the Wonder is the perfect size for a first cruise and she is smaller and it will be easier to get around. Your family will have a "wonder"ful time as they like to say!!

The recent update to the staterooms and mini facelift that they gave the ship really made a big difference. We were on the Wonder right before and right after. But I do agree with PP the bathrooms in the staterooms could use some TLC. New toilets would be really nice. That being said, she is still my favorite ship

We were on the Wonder about 6 months ago (just after the "mini room refurbs") and everything looked great! Enjoy your cruise!

Our first 3 cruises were on the Dream and Fantasy, our most recent was on the Wonder in September. I knew I wouldn't like the Wonder nearly as much as the big ships. I was wrong! I was shocked at the great condition she was in and we had a great time. Our servers weren't as good as our previous cruises but the entertainment staff was fantastic. Even if it's not perfect, you'll get to spend time with your family and won't have to cook, clean or work.

Ours is coming in in March too!! I'm just as excited as you.
After some of the reviews I think of it this way, I haven't been on the other boats so I can't really compare plus it's Disney so it will be GREAT!! :) :yay:

This will be our first cruise too, leaving March 6th

We were on it in June/July. First cruise and only one so far. The ship is BEAUTIFUL! I could say things like layers of paint are noticeable and that the pool side restrooms seem aged but why? Everything was wonderful. They take constant care of the ships (they have to due to the amount of people and the salt air). You have nothing to worry about.

We have cruised on the Wonder many times and agree that she is a gorgeous classic ship!! Her real claim to fame is her very special castmembers! They will go out of their way to please you and remember your likes and dislikes. By the last night you will feel like your main dining room servers are part of your family!! As they say in Hawaii "no worries!" and I AM SURE THAT THIS WILL NOT BE YOUR LAST DISNEY CRUISE!!

I am just off of the Fantasy - lovely ship, cool features and the best server we've had ever in the MDR's. And consistently the best MDR food on any DCL ship in a long time!

But I have sailed every ship more than once except for the Dream (only once).

  • The Magic and Wonder are older ships, but DCL
  • does a great job in maintaining them
  • Consistently better service than on the larger ships
  • Opportunity to actually meet the cruise director (I only saw CD Invisible Darren up on stag on the Fantasy, I have always spoke with the CD's on the Magic and Wonder several times per cruise)
  • sometimes the captain is out and about and will stop and chat
  • Staterooms are larger on the classic ships (it's amazing what a foot or two difference makes on the Dream / Fantasy - so much smaller on them)
  • Pick a deck except for 1 and you can get from forward to aft without having to zig, zag or sometimes change decks.
I really hope that my next cruise are on the classic ships - Magic or Wonder

Don't worry. Be happy that you will be on vacation on a Disney Ship!!!

I really don't understand why the Wonder gets negative reviews. We have sailed 5 times (booked for #6) on the Wonder. Last one was just in October through the Panama Canal and she was in beautiful condition, the crew were awesome and some of the best entertainment we have seen. We have been on the Magic twice, but actually prefer the Wonder. The ship is beautiful and in excellent condition. Of course if you look really hard you can find little things that need to be updated or fixed, but nothing major. Go and enjoy your cruise on a very beautiful ship!

Add my agreement to LOVING the Wonder. Just off a couple weeks ago from the Texas to San Juan repo cruise. Ship was AWESOME crew was AWESOME. Really PREFER the smaller ships. You will have an AWESOME time.

We've been on DCL 3 times and 2 out of 3 of them were on the Wonder. Some of that has to do w/being on the West Coast. Honestly, she has a special place in our hearts. We love the intimacy, the crew & their service, etcetera. Hoping to go again in 2017!
