Disney Wonder Jan 23, 2011

I think we are going to bring Starbucks Via's on the cruise. Be both can't stand Nescafe and can't get going without morning coffee. Anyone else having any thoughts?
What about room service bringing a pot to your room in the AM. I know you can order it the night before, too. Better than a phone call for a wake up call. :cloud9: I read a review that the coffee was better from room service than it was in one of the restaurants. Personally, we typically have tea with an occasional Starbucks so we will make use of the Cove Cafe in the Adult section that will make coffee drinks but they do charge extra. They weren't too bad but it has been a few years and it was on the Magic.

disney character question?

Alex is in LOVE with Tron
Noah and Lightning McQueen
Tabi and Tinkerbell
me...Mickey

Jessica and her group -- two little girls so princess anything.

Joanna and her group- two tweens -- nothing is cool, but I bet Jonas Bros. Oh, wait, they are not characters.....Mickey is safe, i guess?

Hi all
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea of the 12 days of christams countdown thing but I am a bit lame at understanding - do we count down 12 days prior ? Love the 12 menu items ( maybe we can all start there we all list 12 of our favorites ) when we get twards the lower numbers maybe post pics lets see what can we do ? Ideas please lets get this cranking !I love the fun !

Ok so I confess Denver LOVES popcorn and although anything people food is not good for dogs - when Denver is out of harness its all bets off - He eats popcorn and a few french fries once in a while - The last cruise one lady who had just lost her dog loved Denver so much she would have a steak put on a plate every night ( from the kids menu the very small one ) and delivered it to our door LOL Denver couldnt eat too much of it but talk about him knowing right where the room was LOL !!!! man he would DIVE for that steak at the door - He got in trouble for being an ill mannered brat but we managed to work through it and he no longer dove for it when we got back but sat nicely let me pick up the tray and bring him in the room lol .... it was cool though
Denver and Hamlet DO have rules - I will post them here and maybe we can make sure everyone is on the same page - Rules are not mean but Important . Unlike service dogs ( who also have rules ) Guide Dogs are very different in the fact that we have no vision tp see whats going to happen or whats in front of us - if someone distracts a service dog the handler can see whats going on WE CANT .... We rely on our dogs EVERY SINGLE STEP that they take us in ... So their job is extra important and stressful

Rules for Guide Dog Denver and Hamlett :

PLEASE do not call out their names or call to them when they are working - if they turn their head to look at you they might miss an object or become distracted and crash us :scared1::eek::dance3:

Please ask before petting both dogs - Hamlet's mom Amber does not generally let people pet Hamlet ( shes a sucker for little kids but shhhh I didnt tell you that ) they have a newer partnership ( only about 2 years now ) and he really needs to focus on her. Hamlet has an extra hard job because not only will he guide Amber but he guides her whole family - Rick whos also blind usually holds onto ambers shoulder and has sean in hand Gemma is usually being pulled in the stroller - It is a lot for Ham to focus on but he does it SO WELL !!!
Denver well Im VERY lenient about petting so just ask and you will get a yes 90 percent of the time ! we have been partnered for 7 years so it is easier for me to say yes ! It was not always that way but it is now .
Petting is a very personal thing from one handler to the next and most of it depends on the dog .

FOOD -PLEASE I know you all better but they cant have any food from other peoples hands - so all goodies need to go into the FEs SORRY :-( I know rules are no fun popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:: Denver argues this with me ALL the time !

Thats about it just use your common sense - Biggest mistake I EVER made was my first cruise - I told EVERYONE my dogs name and after about the 3rd day at sea well .... I would try to cross a room or busy area and is all I got was DENVER DENVER DENVER HERE DOGGIE HI DENVER DENVER OVER HERE HEY DENVER it was a DISASTER ! lol

If anyone wants to play with Denver( he dosent play much but he kinda likes attention ) on the last cruise we had people just call me in my room and arrange a meeting on secret deck 7 on sea days so feel free - I love to share my boy :-)esp with the adults too !

I hope the rules arent too scary and we dont want you all to think we are stuffy LOL we are a lot of fun and I am open to any ?s you might have - I dont take offense to ANYTHING so ask away - oh and to answer that ? .... its on deck 7 he goes in a tray filled with grass - LOL I ALWAYS get that ? so I am answering it now LOL

Merry christmas Yall

Thank you for the rules about Denver and Hamlet. I shared them with my kids so they understand. They have no experience with guide dogs (gosh, neither do I!) so it is a real important life-learning experience. I can't imagine how difficult it must be if someone calls Denver's name and distracts him. Wow. I never even considered such a thing, so I double thank you for the important information!!!!

I have a really wacky sense of humor (which you need when you're a divorce lawyer!) and I had this hilarious idea of filming my wife, who knows American Sign Language, signing to Denver instead of calling his name. I don't know why that makes my laugh so much, but after about 30 seconds, Denver bites her ankle.

I mentioned to DW about bringing Starbucks and she lit up like a Christmas Tree. She has declared that you are all her new family.

We didn't plan an excursions for Mazatlan. I was thinking of just going to El Faro and maybe Rock Island or something. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thanks,

Dave

Jessica - Congratulations on getting through finals. You did an awesome job. Good for you. I still don't know how you do it all. I think you are going to need this cruise the most!

Dave - How are Cabo Wabo's tequila shrimp? I've only tried their coconut shrimp and they were amazing. I didn't know about the other locations. We visited the one in Lake Tahoe one time.

We are definitely heading to Cabo Wabo too that afternoon. After trying to book the whale watching excursion we wanted and learning they booked out to a private party, we decided to go with the one offered by Disney. It wasn't much more than doing it on our own through other companies. Is anyone else doing this? We were going to head to Cabo Wabo shortly after it ends for a big lunch and drinks and then do the Cabo Waddle back to the ship!

I dig your sense of humor. I do find it funny that you are a divorce lawyer. Hopefully you haven't let any jokes slip that offended your clients. Things like, "She might have forgotten about you but my billing department won't!"

Sue - I'm with you on the dollar stores. One of ours is really bad but we have one here that is pretty decent. It's a great place to get glow bracelets and little arts & crafts things for Emma to keep her busy in restaurants or on planes. Our Target also has a pretty good $1 section near the entrance. Right now it's mostly Christmas stuff though but I keep checking back for FE ideas for the kids. There is actually a lot of Disney stuff.

Good question about the meet. We haven't talked about it lately. We do need to arrange a meet or two. I'll brainstorm this weekend but everyone let us know if you have any ideas.

Frank - You had me at Starbucks! Great idea about the Via. We love Starbucks but have never tried Via until recently. I was very surprised as to how good it was. I forget how much I dislike Nescafe until I get onboard or to a Disney park or hotel. Nescafe is to coffee as "grape drink" is to juice!

Cari - Thanks for answering the question I hadn't even considered. I reckon he wouldn't just lift his leg over the rail. This isn't Carnival, you know! I guess he just goes the same place Pluto does.

I'll leave on that note. Merry Christmas gang!

-steve

Dave
I am on the phone with Amber LOL We have decided you lawyers are a breed all your own LOL We are ROLLING OVER HERE the sign language comment is a TOTAL RIOT !!! We think that the comment you made sounds like one our Lawyer would make so it is especially funny :-)
Mmmmmmm Starbucks !!! I will have to hit up my friend who works there and see about those thingeys your all talking about !
Denver says he is not allowed to bite but if you want to put peanut butter on your wifes shoe for the video it would sure look like he was going for the ankle !:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Yes see no one thinks it can be that bad if you call a dog EXCEPT the handler LOL I have people cluck and kiss to Den all the time - luckily he pretty much stays focused but there are times he doesn't so this rule is golden :-) I hate crashing ! :cool1: <------thats me NOT crashing :-)

Cari,

Thank you for your post regarding the rules. I actually find it comforting knowing the dos and don'ts. I also hadn't considered the difference between service and guide dogs, so that was very insightful.

We are a dog loving family for a variety of reasons and volunteer and donate to an animal shelter we've grown fond of. We are also "free" with our dogs, so when we celebrate Christmas today with my in-laws, we'll have seven dogs gathered around the Christmas tree as the families' dogs are all invited. Should be an interesting sight: two Goldens, a Bearded Collie, a Saint Bernard, and three questionables (all seven being rescues). On Christmas day, we're scaling back to just six dogs. :)

Dave,

I appreciate your sense of humor and I'm guessing it's a blessing given some of the cases you must handle. I was lucky enough to just have an attorney finish one of my classes who had a great sense of humor like yours. She is a corporate attorney whose looking for a career change after 20+ years in the field. She always providing interesting insight to the class with a witty sense of humor to boot.

Enjoy the holidays everyone and the time with your family.

Unfortunately room service brings a pot of nescafe! Of all things quiet cove doesn't do plain drip coffee. I hope that has changed. I will gladly pay. That's why I really like being a DVC member at the parks, I know the room will have a plain drip coffee maker. Minor whine, time for the fun.

Merry christmas everyone! Ryan and I are driving to san diego rockin out to some kansas when I thought of something I forgot to tell you! I emailed my wonderful disney cruise line contact about which nights the shows were. She said she would get back to me and I just heard back the other day. This is what she said:

There were problems with people planning stuff around the show nights because if the had to switch it up last minute for some reason people were infuriated, thus, they are no longer permitted to release that information.

I hope everyone has a fun and safe holiday!

I can understand both sides of this dilemma. Although I do enjoy most of the shows it's only one piece of the entire Disney cruise experience.

Can you believe on our last two cruises we only saw a show once? We will probably go more this cruise. But there is so much to do!

Hi All
Merry Christmas ! Kris I LOVE that your dogs all participate :-) We are the same way !!!! I have so many dogs at my house boarding ( no one stays in kennels they free flow doing what they want ) that I almost always have 5-9 big dogs floating around ! The other night I had 5 big dogs sleeping in bed with me LOL :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: Denver gets a little mad when its not just him and I and his sister in the bed but he adjusts and knows the drill !
Ok someone asked about the shows this is what I herd was playing but maybe or maybe not in this order ??? But I know the lady I work with said this was the line up for shows
The live stage shows are scheduled to be:
All Aboard-Let the Magic Begin Variety Show
The Golden Mickeys
Toy Story-The Musical
Disney Dreams-An Enchanted Classic
Remember the Magic

Hope this helps- Oh and if you only see one or two you MUST do Golden Mickeys and Dreams they in my opinion are THE BEST !!!
Merry Christmas all - Hey after today we can really start to go crazy planning :-) I need to start my FE gifts  and finish making me and Amber our FEs

Is there anyway you can add 2 more cabins to the FE list? Sorry, I know it's closed. We just found out a guy my husband works with and his family are going on the same cruise. First one. They were all excited when I told them about the FE. Let me know what you think or if there is anybody that might have extra gifts. Thank you!!

I will get the cabin and names if it's okay.
