We went to college in Myrtle Beach, my folks live there and our best friends. We've visited Charleston many times and it is one of my favorite cities. I think it would be an abosulet hoot to dock there, and who knows, with the way things are going there in the Caribbean, we just might on our 9/25 sailing.
Why is the ship in charleston???
I wish Disney would keep us more informed... are they gonna continue this route for next Sunday's cruise????
aerycichton, given the fact that one hurricane just finished, and another is currentl battering ports of call on all sides of the Caribbean, Disney (and other lines) are forced to make last minute changes to itineraries. In many cases they won't know until closer to a proposed docking date if the port is able to accept ships or is there is anything left to dock for. I can only imagine after Ivan stops pounding Grand Cayman it will take some time before all of the excursions and activities are up and running. Even the current sailing of the Magic still isn't sure if they'll get to CC yet.
Any cruise is subject to last minute alterations, it is the nature of the beast. There have been a number of times the ships have not been able to stop at Grand Cayman due to rough seas that cause safetly issues with tendering or because of high winds they couldn't dock at CC. So until they hire a few psychics or get really good crystal balls, it is unlikely that they would inform you of a port change a week ahead of time, other than knowing an island has been closed.
There have been a lot of comments about what Disney should be doing through these circumstances and in a great many instances the expectation is highly unrealistic. Everyone cruising for the next 6 weeks or so needs to be open and flexible, cause it doesn't look like the season is going to lighten up any time soon.
