Disney with a cast on?

DD (2) fell and injured her growth plate in her knee and is in a cast. There is a possibility that she will still be in a cast when we leave for her birthday Disney trip in 2 weeks. The trip is planned to be me, DD, my best friend and her 2 young (under 3) daughters.

DD is very tall and heavy and can't walk with the cast on, is even heavier with 20 extra pounds of plaster. I can push her through the park in a stroller, but I'm not sure how to manage standing in the lines. Will they let me bring her stroller in the line with us? Should we just skip stuff that has a long line?

Anyone have any experience with this? suggestions? My back thanks you in advance.

Poor baby. There is a way to have her stroller designated as a wheelchair that can go through lines - I'm sure someone will chime in.

DD had an arm cast a few years ago when she was 10. Fortunately, it only kept her from swimming. However, the bonus is that we got the coolest, unique souvenir - a cast signed by all of the characters she met. Signing a leg might be harder, but I wanted to throw it out there...

visit guest services and ask about a stroller as a wheelchair tag. It should be no problem. You still have to take her out and fold it up for the buses but in the parks it can go anywhere a wheelchair can.

I would also ask about waterproof casting. When DD1 broke her wrist at about that age, it was a god send. She should bathe, wash hands, swim etc and the water just poured out. It was an ext $20 that insurance didn't pay, but totally worth it.

not to be a downer about your trip but is your daughter able to bend her knee like the cast is bent at knee or straight out in front of her when sitting. she could be limited in what rides she can ride if her leg is straight out. not sure h=she would be able to ride rides like Small World because of the seats in the boats. you should be able to get the stroller as a wheelchair tag at guest services

it's a full leg cast. the knee is slightly bent but she can't move it. She can sit, but I didn't think about lap bars. And I guess anything with limited leg room would be an issue. Hmm

Wow...how awful! About 4 years ago our 6 year old decided to jump from our 2nd floor catwalk into the downstairs living room. He broke both heels! This was in January and our trip was the first week in April.

Luckily he DID get a pediatric wheelchair and cast members didn't even second glance and let us right in the wheelchair entrance for all rides. We were lucky in that he got his casts off about 5 days before we left but was still on walking restrictions and was to be in the wheelchair as we went through physical therapy and he rebuilt his leg muscles. But he could complete transfers from wheelchair to rides and the hard casts were off at that point.

the fact that she has a cast I *belief* is proof of the disability and I have heard of the tag about stroller as wheelchair. Only issue seems to be on buses and not folding up the stroller if it is not an actual medical stroller.

The disability forum could probably best answer your question. They were a great help when we went with our son.

She's 2 yrs old? I'm thinking even straight-legged her legs are not long enough to have a problem with seats. At most you might need to angle her slightly to fit, but unless she's a huge 2-yr-old she'll probably be fine. As others have mentioned, just stop by Guest Relations on your first day and ask about stroller-as-wheelchair. Nearly all queues are mainstreamed so you'll use the same entrance but will be allowed to bring the stroller through the lines.

Enjoy your vacation!
