I am trying to price the differences between veranda view and porthole view. We had a 7A room on our last cruise. The veranda was nice but did not use it much as we were not in the room that much. In process of booking our next cruise and wanting to get opinions on what category you would get for room with Oceanview and just a Porthole. I do not know if the dollar difference is material enough to worry, however, which would you select; 9A, 9B, 9C or 9D. What are the differences?

The difference in the categories is location (forward, mid, aft) and deck. Midship and higher decks tend to be the more expensive staterooms.

We did 9B (2nd Deck, midship) on the Wish - down by the Kid's Club. It was great. On the other ships, we usually do 9B as well, although we will be 9C (2nd Deck aft) next summer on the Magic, because one of the rooms needed to hold 4, and the mid-ship rooms are usually capped at 3.

I think the 9As will be up on the higher decks, but all forward or aft, since mid is Verandah on the Wish.

From everythingmouse website:

”There are only 4 Category 9A staterooms on the Disney Wish. These are 7008, 8008, 7506, and 8506.

There are 60 Category 9B staterooms and these are all located on Deck 2. Some are going to love these because they are so close to the Oceaneers Club and the Nursery. Others will avoid them for exactly the same reason!

There are only 9 Category 9C staterooms. 7006, 7504, 8000, 8002, 8004, 8006, 8500, 8502 and 8504.

7006, 8006, 7504, and 8504 are particularly large as they are at the corner on the bow of the ship. This will likely mean that they have an interesting design and will be much sought after.

(From me: Look for this YT video to see a walk-through of one of these cabins. For a couple, the space might not be useful, but if sharing with a sister or a kid, the separate areas could be a plus.)

There are 7 Category 9D staterooms on Deck 7. These are 6000, 6002, 6004, 6006, 6500, 6502, and 6504. On Deck 7 they are 7000, 7002, 7004, 7500, and 7502.”

The Cat 9D are forward facing; good possibility at least the Deck 7 have the slanted port holes:

I just completely ignored Cat 9B. Too many cabins That were over shore excursion loading areas or other big noise makers. I am sure some in the midship could be fine, but easier to just look at others.

They all seem to be forward. We just sailed Deck 2 Forward on the Magic. No problems with up/down movement though waves.

It would depend on # of guests. Some only sleep 3 (probably the slanted windows.). The slant may give more floor space, but I think the angled ceiling might make it seem more cramped.

I avoid any cabin above, below, across from from “grey areas“ - those can be crew work areas with heavy traffic and slamming doors. Also, not above / below bars and entertainment areas. I like a cabin cushion around me.

So actual cabin may be important to me more than A, B, C… designation.
