Disney website just cancelled my free dining reservations!!!

I just called and what is showing on my MDE is totally wrong. I only have one reservation but it just duplicated them but they aren't actually there. I'm glad I called and I do hope the glitches are corrected soon.

What a joke.

Disney should be embarrassed.

I'm glad you figured it out though.

I know! I was really worried that I would end up like the OP and I didn't want that. It's frustrating that MDE is so wrong. The CM was great but really it seems asinine to waste time on the phone over a nonexistent problem. I do wonder if they are kicking themselves for the treatment of their former IT guys.

They had issues like this long before they outsourced those IT workers.

Ok, that's "good" (I guess the right word) to know, I've never had any issues before but I've always just booked at the campground and never had any issues at all.

Will someone please politely explain to me why it is considered incorrect to have multiple reservations at the same time? I have never rented on WDW property before and I am sincerely wondering what I am missing.

Editing to add that on the DCL pages people regularly share that they have reservations made that they aren't sure they will keep and there is very little-to-no negativity associated with it...

I have extremely high expectations of Disney but I also understand I am going somewhere more people want to go than anywhere else. It's going to be busy and there are thousands of others trying to do exactly what I'm trying to do.
Considering all that, it works very well for me, thanks. But I don't consider that I am working hard to spend my money at all. In fact my money gets spent a little too easily at Disney. But for those that don't they certainly have other options.

The time I spent on the phone with Disney today was to save myself hundreds of dollars. I didn't have to do it. If speed and ease are more of a priority, booking at rack rate is very simple and quick. It's not unusual that it takes more effort to save money.
Why I think Disney should fix their reservation system and agree the system is ridiculous. My DH owns a small software development company and finds Disney's IT apalling.
Still, I have to agree with this to an extent as it is a choice to book a room before the free dining comes out. You can wait and just book the free dining room then.
Yeah, I tend to go with the first story someone tells. It was only after there were some not so positive responses that the multiple reservations were due to glitches. And even if that were true, the OP could've cancelled all the extras and she chose not to because she wanted the mulitples.

Had her multiple reservations been due to no fault of her own- I would think that would've been the first thing the OP mentioned. And in that case, bad bad Disney. But that wasn't the reason.

And her desire to get things perfect for her may have well cost other guests from getting anything.
I believe she might have had problems booking/modifying but it is obvious she was holding them on purpose as her first post said they were going to cancel one, out of 4, due to the arrival flight. This of course then means she was still trying to hold 3 for whatever reason, departure airfare maybe. So either way glitch or not she was purposely holding 4 free dining reservations, down to 3 if her DH had succeeded in canceling one, until she had her flights all scheduled. And due to the limited capacity of free dining, I still stand by my original statement, it is inconsiderate to tie up 4 discount reservations.
Sorry but I think I meesed up with the reply and it multiple quoted.:sad2:

I don't think it makes much difference normally, but in this particular case, the Free Dining reservations are highly coveted and when you take into consideration the fact that Disney severely reduced the number of rooms available for this promotion, the OP taking up 4 rooms because she wanted to play with dates to get the cheapest airfare (and yes, that's exactly the reason she gave in the first post) when many others were not able to get even one room with Free Dining, I think it is seen as a bit inconsiderate. And since there seemed to be even fewer Value rooms available this go round, and anything that is canceled goes back into general inventory NOT back into Free Dining rotation (according to my TA who got the same story from every cast member and manager she spoke to in the last week - and you guys know they were many - poor TA's) at least three people are crossing fingers and checking the web and by phone what seems like every five minutes hoping more rooms are released soon that could, and should, have gone to guests who could have used them in the first place.

Sorry if this seems harsh, but I believe this is why people are upset about this particular issue.

Because we weren't set totally on our dates yet because I was trying to find the best airfair deal, we had several free dining packages with several overlapping dates. My husband went on just now to cancel one because we narrowed down our arrival flight. He got to the last page and it said could not process at this time. He went back on to try again and all but one are GONE!!! He called and was told they can't pull them back up because you can't have multiple reservations for overlapping dates. Umm I did!! And your website cancelled them!!! We haven't gotten cancelation emailed, the reservations just vanished. I tried to rebook as new reservations , but it's not showing up as available. I told him to call back and move up the chain of command! I'm so upset!!! Hours of being up at 3am my time to book it all and now it's gone!!

Thank you for explaining it.

Does anyone know why it wouldn't go back into the pool for the FD?

From Disney's perspective, they don't allow it because it can cost them money. I'm sure they aren't thrilled to have unhappy guests who see no availability for a much wanted discount either. There's a rush to book during a promotion of any kind, free dining being a particularly crazy one, and then it drops off. When someone books reservations they can't possibly keep, it ties up that room for that length of time and perhaps the room never books.

So whether it goes back into the discounted pool or not, Disney is losing out on a potential booking. Mulitply that times however many guests would do that and you can see what a problem it could be for them.

So, it affects guests and it affects Disney.

My best guess would be that Disney hopes the "feeding frenzy" of limited supply would cause people to book that reservation anyway (at full price) after they try to get a discount offer but find it sold out. Hoping the guest feels like "oh well, I tried, but I'll still go to Disney anyway". They might even get a CM who offers them an upgraded room at a discount and feel like they still got *something* even though it wasn't the much higher free dining they hoped for.

I've always said Disney loves a good feeding frenzy. :)
