Another preemie mom here! Our little guy was 1lb and 7oz, 12 weeks early. He spent 83 days in the NICU.
He was lucky in that he had no major setbacks and came home (at all of 3lbs and 14oz) with no monitors, oxygen, or meds of any kind.
He was born in early May and came home in early August. We kept him pretty much at home and isolated from the time he came home in August through the end of RSV season here, which is in April. We also kept sick people away, had everyone wash their hands upon entering our house, used tons of hand sanitize, etc. (He also got Synagis the first two winters.) Happily, he never did get RSV or anything else. Even now, at 3, he's never had so much as a runny nose, an ear infection, or a cold of any kind - despite the fact that he now does preschool 3 mornings a week, gymnastics, Kindermusik, and tons of other stuff. Other than spending the first three months of his life in a hospital (and the first month on a ventilator), he's the healthiest kid I've ever known! He is still tiny, though - only about 24 pounds and 31 inches tall at age 3. His 18 month old cousin is WAY bigger than him! He never had any real feeding issues or problems with solid food or anything, he just has never been a fast gainer. (We didn't start solids until he was 6 months adjusted age because he was exclusively breastfed.)
Anyway, we did take him to Disney World (with his doctor's blessing) just after his first birthday in early May. I wasn't too worried about it since he was 12 months old and had never had any serious lingering issues. Also, as becca mentioned above, he was still nursing, which made me feel a little more relaxed about taking him out around all those people and germs! It was a great trip, and he loved every minute of it! Now, at just over 3 years old, he's been to Disney 4 times and is going back in September!
Good luck with your little one!
