Disney Visa

Disney ran a promotion last year, where we were able to upgrade to the premier card for one year for free. Normally between WDW vacations & Disney cruises we would be able to more than the make up for the $49 fee. But the Good News for us is that Disney is now running a promotion where if you charge $2,500 (between 7/1 & 9/30) you get $50 in reward dollars, which will make up for this years $49 fee. So, basically, we'll have the premier card for free for 2 years. :)

Hi Darkwing, Where did you hear about this promotion? Did you have to sign up for it? Did you get an email about it?

We also upgraded to premiere last year using the first year free promotion, but I haven't heard anything this year about more promotions. I had a huge car repair this month that was almost $2500 alone  , so I definitely know I'd qualify for this if it was offered to me. ;)

I received an e-mail dated 6/21/13 (just checked my saved mail) with a pin #. I posted this back on the cruise board back in June, from other posts there, some folks got the same e-mail some didn't. :confused3 If you have the premier card try giving Visa a call, couldn't hurt. Good Luck

I received an offer in the mail last week to receive a $200 disney gift card if I open one...I am still debating, as we have 2 other credit cards with balances on them right now.

I actually just upgraded mine to the premier. I had the regular one for years and years. I was able to accumulate a few points here and there, but nothing huge. When I found out you could earn more points with the premier, for me, it was a no brainer to upgrade. I can easily make up that $49 annual fee. I'm so excited!

I just have the regular old boring Disney Visa. I put all my gas, groceries, some bills and whatnot on it and pay it off monthly when I know I'm going to Disney. That way I'll have the gift card for food and souvenirs when I go down. That's my dining plan. :)

I got the regular one and wanted to use it instead of the MC I have had for years. We generally charge everything we can and pay the bill off at month's end. Well, Chase gave me a $700 credit limit. Pretty annoyed as I cannot cancel my MC with a $12000 limit for $700. How would I possibly book a $700 Disney vacay for a family of 5?

If you sign up, don't do it without getting something out of it. :) We got an invitation to sign up for the Disney Visa and if we spent $500 within the first three months, we get a $200 Disney gift card. Seemed like a no brainer to me considering we are headed to WDW at the end of the year.
You could probably call them up or do a google search to find a promo.

Can you ask for your MC limit to be lowered and then have them raise the limit on your DV? That is likely why your limit is so low. When we first got our regular DV (several years ago), it had a $2500 limit. We were reaching that in only 3 weeks or so, so we asked to have it raised. They increased it to $3500, which we dealt with for 6 months or so, but asked for another increase. They raised it to $5500, which was great. Then they just started raising it on their own. We got the premier when it first came out, and I think we're up to $13,500 now. :rotfl2: As I said before, it is the only credit card we own, so that is why our limit is able to be so high.

Ah, thanks! The PIN explains it - I never get those! I've tried calling Chase before about other promotions when folks on the boards have posted about them, and never have any luck - Chase always says they're only for selected customers. Back when people used to get offers for 3x and 5x the disney dollars I never got those either.

Chase is notoriously stingy about their credit limits (not just for the Disney Visa, but for all of their credit cards). The card that was our everyday card before we got the Disney Visa had a credit limit of over $50,000 (don't ask me why they gave it to us, but hey, I wasn't complaining); when we opened the Disney card they gave us a $5,000 limit. I called them and convinced them to raise it a bit, but they wouldn't go very far. It's since been raised a couple times since then, but I've had to call and ask each time, they don't just automatically do it like our previous card did. I really wanted to get rid of that other card because it was our last card with an annual fee (other than the Disney premiere one, which makes sense for us), but, like you, I haven't been comfortable cancelling my card with a much higher limit when Chase won't match it. Finally got them close - I guess after a few years of paying all my bills in full every month, they finally trust me - so now I can cancel the old card before the annual fee is due next month. Long story short, it's not just you - a friend who worked at Chase warned me they were stingy, and boy, was she right.

If you plan to spend at least $4900 or more in the select 2% categories, then the premiere is the way to go. Otherwise, do the regular. We got the premier when it first came out, and we have really noticed the increase speed at which we earn our rewards. We only have one credit card and we use it for everything possible and pay it in full each month. As long as you pay it completely off each month, it is a great card to have.

Why $4900? At 2% for gas, groceries and restaurants wouldn't you break even at $2450?

:cool1:
OK. I knew that would happen right after I posted the question! I see why you said $4900 now!
