Ok- i need the pros and cons of the Disney Rewards Visa...:) :teacher:

i keep getting the apps in the mail and am having a hard time NOT sending it back in. I want to be able to convince DH that it would be a good thing... esp if we plan to go back to WDW... which of course we are... sometime!!:rolleyes1

TIA;)

The interest rate is higher than you could probably qualify for with another bank, for one thing.

But if you plan on paying off your balance every month, you will come out ahead with the rewards.

The rewards are, like any card, pretty paltry. But, both Disney and some of their partner companies, like right now Alamo rental car, run discounts.

And you get a free photo and character greeting opportunity every day at EPCOT.

If you don't have an annual pass, or AAA membership, having a Disney Visa can be a route to room discounts.

There is not any annual fee, which many rewards cards charge, so that's good.

Don't send in the apps through the mail. Use this link & apply on-line. You get a $50 rewards card FREE! I used this link a month ago and I can see the $50 rewards on my statement now.

We really loved our Disney Visa for our last two trips.
We use it to purchase all of our everyday items and get the
Disney Rewards dollars.
DV will notify you of when they are offering double, triple or 5x the
rewards dollers. In one year I earned $171.00 and was able to use
it on our last trip for extra spending money. I make sure I pay off
my card every month. :thumbsup2
DV also offer 0% for 6 months on Disney Packages put on the visa.

My husband and I have had the cards for about a year now. We really like them. We pay it off every month, so the interest rate isn't a problem. We use it to buy things we would normally buy (e.g. groceries, gas) so that we can get the rewards.

The only drawback is that you can't use it all of the stores in WDW. I think there's at least one in every park, though.

I thought there was a sticky thread on the Disney visa? I'm looking for it because I would like to know where I can redeem my points from the visa card at Disney. I know you can at DTD's guest relations but we aren't going there till the 3rd day of our trip. Is there anywhere else you can get the points off your card preferably at MGM?

It seems that some people don't get their card for 30 days after application is made. Is that normal?

I received my card with in 5 days of applying.

I am curious about the character greetings in EPCOT that were mentioned. I had not read about any of these as a perk when I applied.

Pro: You will NEVER have any trouble using your rewards! Not true of airline miles, sometimes an issue for hotel points. Straight cash back cards are OK, but somehow it's more of a joy to spend it at Disney instead of the grocery store.

how do you get your reward dollars that are built up? In other words, do you use the card at WDW & it shows up a credit or can you get disney dollars w/it?

When you've earned at least $20 in credit, you call it in and they mail you a gift card for whatever amount you wish to cash in. You can also get the card at 2 locations in the World so you don't have to worry about not getting it in time for your trip.

The Disney Rewards Card is different than your Disney Visa Card.
To get the DR Card you go to your DV account and there is a
section which says Redeem your Disney Rewards and follow the
directions that it says.
If this is your first time redeeming your Rewards
after you have applyed for your rewards you will receive a
Rewards Card in the Mail (I forgot how long it takes to get it- but it didn't seem to take very long).
The Card looks like a Visa Card or a Gift Card and can be used like a
Visa. Whenever you use your DR Card the cash register receipt will tell you how much of a credit you have left on your card.
If you just have a few dollers you can pay
the difference on a purchase with either cash or credit card.

I ususally use AMEX and get the mileage/points, but since we were going to Disney, I decided to try the DV. I just cashed in $218 reward dollars! I have a reward card on it's way to me, and I'll be using it at WDW next month.

I just went to the Chase website (that's who I have the DV through), logged into my account, clicked on that card, and followed the prompts to redeem rewards. Took me about 5 minutes.

Happy Shopping!!

I use my Disney Visa card for EVERYTHING... if it cost $5 or more I charge it... then I pay it off each month.... I earn way over the $750 a year but we go multiple times a year so it works out.... for example... I used rewards in June... since June I have earned $172... I will transfer this to use for my trip in a few weeks.... it pays for the upgrade for two nights from POP to the AKL....the big thing for us is it must be paid in full every month.... the interest would wipe out the savings of the rewards....

i write a lot of check so if i did that, i would eliminate the checks andthe cost of the checks....:) good idea!!

If you guys haven't been to flyertalk.com you should check it out. They have so many different tips on using rewards for travel including whole setions on different cards and which ones have the best rewards FOR YOU. I too use a card ( in my case Amex platinum) which has buy one get one flights up to 4 free tickets per year!) to purchase all my daily things and pay off monthly. MEmbership is $250 per year but you get 4 free tickets AND you get points for redemption as well. Those of you who are using your cards for gas groceries etc. should heck them out...very informed group of people!

We applied for the DV with CHase, and it came within a week! DH will use it for all his work expenses (global traveller) so we get the rewards and his company pays it off! Thanks for the info on how to get the DR.

I would have to say that compared to other cards the Disney Rewards card is pretty stingy giving out those rewards. I pay off my card every month but only 1%? There are better cards out there that give better rewards and more options than Disney Chase.

www.hiltonhhonors.com
Hilton HHonors Program has the American Express Card that gives you 5 HHonors reward points for every dollar that you spend. We basically do our entire budget on the card and pay if off every month. This means we basically have a free hotel room stay about every other month. There are so many other options with hotel reservations with Hilton. We have stayed in Tokyo Hilton, Skiing in Utah, Anaheim CA Disneyland, Orlando... The choices are endless. Since Hilton has literally thousands of hotels under different brand names you can stay at:

Hilton
Hilton Garden Inn
Hampton
Contrad
Double Tree
Homewood Suites
Scandic
and others.

Hilton is a Disney Good Neighboor Hotel and Official Downtown Disney Hotel

They have point strecher options that will allow for reduced points for some hotels. We stayed at the Orlando Airport hampton for like 1/2 the points the night before our flight. In Orlando at walt disney World they have a hotel on Disney Property at Downtown Disney. They use Disney transportation and have a character breakfast in the hotel too. My wife and I stayed 2 years ago and we were given concierge level rooms because we were Gold HHonors members which saved us breakfast every morning. The coolest thing was having Downtown Disney a walk away from us. Since we were on Arizona time and the parks closed at 6 and 7pm we were wide awake at 11 pm. We had all the time in the world to go shopping at DD! We even had early entry privleges since we were on the disney property too. Isn't that cool or what? and it was all FREE! All we did was save up our points etc.

The coolest thing about HHonors is you can get Disney Hopper passes for like 125,000. points through their HHonors Websight! That is basically the entire vacation for free if you have enough points.

They have No Annual Fee
the APR is quite high but I pay it off every month
28+ day grace period for payment
Accepted at CostCo etc.

It is by far the best reward card out there I have found.

Check it out and see if you agree.

We love our Disney Visa so far. We use it for absolutely everything - especially stuff that we used our debit card for in the past (like gas). I have also used to to charge airfare/hotel for work trips. We charged part of our upcoming Disney trip on it as well.
We had the card about a week or so after applying. We just called in last week to get our rewards card because we were worried about it arriving in time for our trip and we got it about 4 days later! The best part is that you can reload it at any time as your rewards dollars accrue and that happens immediately once you call.
We have a good amount to spend on this trip already! One thing we may use it for is meals for our DS with food allergies - he will be 1 on our trip and we will be on the DDP so he would have eaten off of our plates. We had initially planned to have one of us order a no milk/no egg meal each time and share with him, but if we can use the reward dollars to pay for his meals, we can just get him his own stuff and everyone can enjoy whatever they want at mealtime! Or...we will get some Christmas gifts for family/friends in Disney.:santa:

However, I thought that the initial paperwork said that the character meeting opportunity at Epcot was only for a limited time and would no longer be offered by the time we went on our trip (Nov 26th).
