Does the disney visa save money for WDW trips ? What benefits are there is getting one ???

Thanks

I got it for the special offers, which haven't come along often. I don't use it as my regular card. I have a Chase card with travel miles and have over 100,000 pts. on it.

With all the restrictions they are putting on that card, I don't plan to use it except to book the room and such. I will pay it off at billing as I do my other card.

I don't think the Disney Visa is that great. The rewards are slow to build up. I did however appreciate having a free meal at Boma on my first night thanks to Visa Rewards. One thing that was also nice was the recent room discount code offered for Disney Visa owners.

I think it depends how you use it. At most we go to WDW every 2-3 years. We're building a house and plan to put the carpet, appliances, lights, whatever we can on the card. Of course it'll be paid off each month because we can't stand finance charges.:D
We also pay several bills online and buy gas with the card. I've thought about doing groceries too. So I think over 2 years we could really rack up the points.
If we went several times a year or even once a year we wouldn't have that many points to use.

The card is just so-so.

The ONLY reason we got it was the 1% 'rewards', which we normally use to pay for a nice dinner while in WDW.

This upcoming trip will probably be our last for many years, so we will probably begin using a card with a much lower APR %.

I would do a search on the card and see what pops up. I wish I had done that before I applied for one. Apparently Bank One is very particular about who they accept. If you have cards and don't use them, you won't get accepted. I had checked my credit before I applied and it was in the 700's and I still didn't get a card. I guess they want to make sure you will use it regularly, but I just wanted it to balance transfer.

So now I have a "ding" on my report saying that I was not-approved and that doesn't look good. :( Definitely not worth their meager earning's offer.

I don't think it is a great card to use all the time. There are better cards that offer better rewards, many you get one point for each dollar charged, not the 1% you get with this card. But for our last trip, once we had enough miles on our other card to get free airfare, we started to use the Disney card and ended up with enough on it to eat for free for the first few days we were there. We also saved A LOT on the room when they had the offer last spring. But we no longer use the card, since we are now building up miles again for our next trip. Once we get enough for the free airfare, we may switch back, but it won't be for a while.

Depends on how you use it.

I use it instead of my debit card now - for all of our daily expenses, and any of our monthly bills that I can have automatically charged to a credit card (dish, internet, cell phones, etc.). If we need computer stuff, car stuff, whatever, it all goes on the Disney card.

Every month, I pay it off, and start all over again.

Balance transfers and convenience checks don't earn rewards dollars. And, if you carry a balance, it's not a great APR. But I don't use any other rewards cards, and I really AM a Disney girl, so it works out great for me. :)

PS - Got a note from them in the mail... any purchases over $350 in a month will earn 2% rewards for the next calendar year.

There are better cards that offer better rewards, many you get one point for each dollar charged,

But, don't the cards that give 1 pt per dollar also require a large number of points to get whatever reward itself is and/or have a yearly fee? Although this is only 1%, the reward itself is 1pt=$1. If you know of a card that offers $1 spent, $1 reward, I'd love to know what it is!:D

I think the Disney Visa works well for some, not others. We rarely fly, so miles aren't of much use to us. Discover's 1% is the same as the DV, and although it is cash, I don't like Discover and won't use it.

Since we're now only going to WDW every couple of years, we're accumulating quite a few rewards dollars for our next trip. They currently have an offer out for $50 in rewards for signing up, so everyone in our family got their own card. That was $200 in rewards alone.

I use it like a debit card, and pay it off every month. It gets me a few hundred dollars per vacation to spend on food and stuff. I have put most of the purchases we've made for our new house, i.e. air conditioning, carpet, tile, rent in the apartment, rental truck, etc. I should have a lot saved by the time we take our 25th wedding anniversary trip in May.

I like it! I have one other cash back card from Motley Fool/MBNA that is a true 1% for every dollar spent but it was like pulling teeth to get the reward (months overdue, many phone calls) and you only get the reward once a year. My DH has it too and they took forever to give him his reward and finally just credited his account. I have had no problems with the DV and I can get the Dream Rewards whenever I want.

DH got the 7 for 4 Dream Maker package offer with $100 Disney Dollars at check in a while back for opening the card. He also got $25 Dream Rewards after his first purchase. He just got a letter in the mail that if he buys anything before August 31st he gets another $10 Reward Dollars! I am getting double rewards this next year for anything over $150 spent on gas, food, cell phone, etc.. We also got a $50 shipboard credit for our 3 night Disney cruise in October for using the card to pay for the cruise. Not too bad!

Where did you see the $50 offer? I found two offers - $20 Disney Dream, or a $15 Disney Store gift card.

I first got it in my packet that came with my Disney stock reports. Then I got an insert with the offer in my bill and now it's listed on my special offers under my account.

I found out about it on a thread right here in the Budget Board. All the info you need is in that thread.

Hopefully they are still offering it and you can get the $50!
