Disney Visa Rewards - returns?

How does Disney Visa calculate returns? If I spend $1,000 and get 1% towards my rewards ($10) and then I return $1,000 in the same statement period is the $10 then subtracted from what I earned in rewards?

I'm assuming the answer is yes, it is deducted? I'm guessing that the rewards are based on the total amount spent in a statement period, minus any returns?

If this is the case I'm losing $8.00 in rewards before our January trip because a store accidentally returned $800 to my account twice, when they should have only returned the $800 once. However, they don't want to correct it until the statement period closes, which I agree with in case it somehow corrects itself (although I don't see it happening because these charges aren't pended, they're actually showing on the account). So the second $800 return will negate $800 of spending I did on my account and take away the $8.00 in rewards if I'm thinking right. And it matters for this statement period because this is the last one before I leave for our trip to WDW and therefore our last chance to bank our rewards before we redeem our reward card at WDW.

I guess there's not much I can do though!

You are correct. The was it was accounted for in my statement was that the rewards were calculated for the purchases and them rewards were subtracted from the return. So, it wasn't a reduced reward amount, but an actual subtraction from the reward balance. Same effect in the end.

However, I made the purchase (a deposit on a Disney cruise) when I was in 5% bonus on the Disney visa and canceled and got the refund during regular 2% rewards. I essentially got to keep the 3% difference because they only deducted rewards at the 2% level.

The bright side, I guess, is that's $800 less to pay on your bill this month while you're on vacation!

Thanks for the info!! And you are correct that it's $800 less to send to my credit card! I like the "bright side" of things starting 2013 :goodvibes

i am confused...a company gave you back $1600 instead of $800 and they are going to wait to correct the issue? That makes no sense to me, why in the world would they not want their $800 back immediately? Something doesn't sound right? You could close that card and cause them issues trying to hunt you down for the money that is rightfully theirs, not saying you WOULD do that, but why would a company not take their money back asap.

Last night I had just called the store to make them aware of the problem. The guy wanted me to bring my statement in to the store for them to see but the statement period doesn't close until the 6th so he told me to come in then. I agree with you 100% that I expected the guy to fix it over the phone right then. My thought was they'd charge my card over the phone for the second $800 refund because who's to say I'll come back to the store? Of course I will because it's the right thing to do but I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't. I told my husband that by going into the store, out of my way, to give them their money back they'd better be thankful.

To make the story even crazier - I should have only been refunded $775. When I bought the item they gave me $25 off. When I returned it and she told me the refund was $800 I told her that was incorrect because of the discount and showed her the receipt. Three people came over and none of them could figure out how to subtract the discount so her supervisor said they'd just refund the full $800!! Why the heck would any store give me $25 for nothing!! I tried to tell them that wasn't correct but they still gave me that amount. I was pretty shocked.

I think the guy last night just didn't know what to do when i called and decided to just tell me to come in so I'm sure someone else can figure out how to fix the problem.

I've never had them deduct rewards when I make a return. The return credit ($ amount) just gets deducted from the new balance, so I earn rewards on that many fewer dollars this month.
