Hi, I'm thinking of getting the Disney Reward Visa. Does anyone know if I can use the reward dollars to pay for annual dues? Thanks!

I am glad u opened this thread. I do understand about getting Disney credits/dollars when using your Disney Visa. Does anyone else use it routinely for other charges (paying house payment, then paying it off immediately)?

We use it for every purchase we make but not our bills or mortgage. The reward points are nice, given that we'd be charging those purchases anyway. However, I think the reward program is pretty skimpy and am looking into getting a better reward-type CC.

We do not have our morgage on it but cable, gym membership and a few small monthly charges and usually pay it a few times a month so no interest. We do charge our dues every year and pay that off immediately.

We use our Disney Visa on every purchase we can - the only CC we use - We also pay most / more than half of our dues off with the points from the previous year and the balance we charge and pay off. LY we had $707 worth of points and this year was a little over $500 in points. It makes the dues look better when Im only paying oop $300 - $400 instead of $950.:thumbsup2 I will agree with a previous poster the card has been better in the past - I do not feel I got some of the special deals that I recieved last year. They sometimes do specials during a few months and they did not re-offer that to me this year??:confused3
If anyone uses a different card that gets better cash back please postpopcorn::

I've been using the Disney visa but Discover just offered me a $500 bonus if I charge 3K/month for 6 months. I'm moving everything but car and mortage to the Discover. Plus discover offer 5% cash back for various commodities(travel and restaruants Jan-Mary) We are planning a cruise so that will be on the 3K/month for 2 months. I am also considering charging my due for one of these months. As I understand it, if you charge your due you have to pay off the whole balance. Anyone know that for sure?

When you say you are paying off some of your dues with points from the previous year, is this to say you're renting the points then taking the money and paying dues?

I'm not Fireside, but I believe they mean they use the Disney reward points to pay off part of the dues. What I do is Late Nov/Early Dec order my rewards card with like a $10 balance on it, then mid Jan I move the rest of the points over to the card and call Members service to apply the balance of the card to my dues.

Our credit card use goes like this:

Discover for the 5% offers til maxed out
Costco Amex 3% for restaurants & gas 2% for Travel
Visa for everything else @ 1%

I tried a different cc for my 1% last year and wasn't impressed, so we're back to Disney now - but man did I get some nice offers from Disney while I wasn't using the card lol:laughing:

If you do decide to get it, the DVC website has a link to recieve a $100 Disney gift card if you are a new card holder and get approved after your first purchase is made on the card. My husband and I just applied online through that link. :thumbsup2 $200 dollars in DISney GC's!

Ok...this one really helped me out!! I never thought about using my reward points to help pay for dues!!!

Different Disney sites have links to apply for the Disney Rewards Visa card. Each link may offer a different promotion. By far, I think the link from the DVC site has the best perk, typically ranging from $75 to $125 of some kind of Disney dollars (like Disney gift card or Disney rewards card) which can be used to buy any Disney merchandise or pay annual dues.

A while back I applied for the Disney Rewards Visa card (through the DVC site, obviously :)) so I could use it to pay for a Disney cruise. I got extra onboard credits for paying with a Disney visa. All the reward points I earned from charging the cruise, I used towards paying annual dues. I didn't wait till Nov or Jan. I ordered the rewards card whenever I felt like it, and called Member Accounting to apply the rewards to my account (so I had credit in my account until Dec when the dues were posted).

Another nice thing about the Disney Visa is that it is offered by Chase. I like the way Chase allows me to manage my accounts. For the Disney Visa, I set up recurrning payments to auto pay the outstanding balance in full on due date. Since I pay in full, there is no finance charges. Since it is automatic, I don't have to remember to make payment (but still need to make sure there is enough cash in my bank by due date to cover the auto payment). My credit card gets marked as paid on due date, but the funds doesn't usually leave my bank account for a day or two after the due date.

I used to charge everything on one credit card. But not any more. My current way:

- Discount gift card (I can get many brands at 15% to 20% off face value)
- Costco American Express (3% for restaurant and gas)
- Fidelity American Express (2% for all purchases)
- Visa for places that don't accept American Express

I thought about the Discover card program but haven't got around to check it out yet.

Hollis,

discount gift cards at that rate sound fantastic: can you post about that or pm me about it?

Discover has a specific type of charge + a maximum charge amount that the will give 5% back on

IE Jan - March is hotel & cruises, $800 max charge amount so $40 cashback.

Aprl - June may be home improvement for $400 or $20 cashback

Usually March, June, & Sept have a 1 month special: gas, resturants etc

Then in addition to that program, Discover has their cashback merchants: use the Discover link and get 5-20% cashback. A general rule of thumb I've found... Fatwallet.com usually has better offers & coupons but occasionally Discover wins out.

Discover and Groupon had 20% cashback offer for Dec that I definitely racked up on.

Another plus for Discover: you can get a statement credit, a check, or a merchant gift card. Most of the merchant giftcards are use $20 cashback rewards, get a $25 GC. Somewhat limited choices in gc, I think: but if you need them (like hubby and I are going thru Lowes gc like water w/ home renovations) it's a nice boost.

Getting back to the subject in hand, if you want to pay part of your dues w/ rewards points - you can still have the remaining amount auto drafted from your bank account over the rest of the year. We've varied on that depending on how the years finances looked~

Flechette is correct -sorry for the confusion. We use Disney Reward $s to pay off annual dues. I wait until the end of year and transfer all rewards from the past year and pay our dues and the balance I pay with Disney Visa and pay off the next month. This works great for us and saves a ton of money - I like using 1 card vs 3 or so - I would get to confused I'm happy with the 500 -700 dollars we save with the Disney Visa on our dues each year.

flechette, I'll PM you details to see if it would work for you. I sell discount gift cards, and can get many cards at 15% discount (a few barnds have lower discount). Now through end of February, I am running a promotion that all 250+ brands I carry are offered at 20% discount.

Thanks for all the info on the Disney card. Hollis, could you send me the info on the promotional discounted cards, going on thru February. Thanks

Thanks for the info, I didn't realize you could use your Disney Reward points to pay your dues.

I charge everything we buy to one card and pay it off every month so there is no interest. In the past if I was planning a trip to Disney I would use that card, but if not I use my Marriott card. It adds up over time, and its great to have almost everything that you spent on the end of year statement. It really eye opening when everything is on one bill.

Now I am going to have to decide if I should use it for dues, originally it was for fun/travel only. We went to the food and wine festival in Oct and only paid for our plane tickets, food. etc was cover by our points.
