Random question for a friend. Lets say you booked a cruise using your Disney Visa and got x number of reward points. If you later cancel the cruise do you lose the reward points? And if so what happens if you have already cashed them out.

If you get the rewards points you would have already paid the cruise off in full so I'm not 100% sure since they would then give you a credit statement.

On the Disney Visa you earn Reward points with every purchase -- so OP's friend could have earned reward points without being PIF (deposit, installments, etc.). OP -- if they cancel the cruise and receive a refund back to the Disney Visa credit card, there will be a reduction in Reward points. If your friend has already "cashed out" the reward points to a Redemption Card, I'm not sure if Chase would carry a negative reward balance or deduct that amount from the credit balance.

Enjoy your cruise!

I guess I didn't realize we get the points at spend and not at payment to the credit card company. That's what I meant by PIF like they would have already paid Chase the amount the put on the card if they received the points already. I don't manage our card so I just went off of how all other points cards I have are.

Thanks, that was a great explanation!

@wilkeliza I see what you mean. The points are credited to your Rewards balance on your statement date, not the date you made the charge. But it is not tied to having paid the credit card balance owed. For example, today is my statement date. I get my statement today (on the 21st each month) and it shows $2000 in various charges I made during the month including $500 for a cruise deposit. The minimum payment of $25 is due on the 21st of next month. However, it also shows $25 in new rewards points based on those $2000 in new charges. So I've actually been given the Rewards before I pay the balance owed to Chase.
