Disney Visa Discounts...

I do not have a Disney Visa (yet!) but am wondering if it's worthwhile to sign up for one NOW. I have read that they occassionally have discounts for cardholders....if so, what types of discounts are they? Is it room only or can you also use it for a package? (I realize dining & tickets wouldn't be discounted however we want to add dining so I'm hoping it's not for "room only" bookings) How far in advance do they typically send out those discounts? Andddd, is it usually very date-specific or is it generally for a chunck of time offered?

I ask this b/c we have a room only res for Dec 2-9, 2009. I don't want to buy airfare if there's a chance that we'd have to change the dates in order to get a discount rate. Does that make sense?

Room only.

You also get discounts on tours. There are a bunch of perks. It doesn't hurt to have it if you can have another card.

You also get 6 months 0% on vacation packages.

We already paid (deposit on the room) on another credit card....didn't know about the possible Disney Visa discounts. Would we have to cancel the current res and rebook, putting the deposit on the Disney Visa??

We were able to get a great package deal using Disney Visa last year over Thanksgiving. My parents and my sister purchased the package and saved $200 over my family's AP rate. Another reason you may want to get the card is for the rewards. I use my card for groceries, gas and college tuition and I pay off the balance each month-no interest accrues. I was able to earn $219.00 disney dollars since 11/07! To me, it's free money.

Last year we paid our final payment with 3 types of instruments. We used Disney Dollars, a Disney Gift Card and the rest on Disney Visa. We did receive the 6 months zero interest no problem. My children had their own reservation where I paid the deposit on my Disney Visa and had the zero interest rate for 6 months and my daughter paid the final pmt on her Disney Visa and had the zero rate. I can't see any problem but ask!!

I'm not concerned with the 0% interest for 6mos...I'm more concerned about any possible DISCOUNT offers they may have IF you pay on a DIsney Visa. I read somewhere that if the entire package isn't paid on a Disney Visa, that you may not be eligible to get the discounted room rate (IF it's offered).

Right now it's a code that's the same as the AP discount. It is $64 per night at values from late Aug through Sept 27. I'm not that familiar with the AAA discount except it seems the discount is a set thing not a code that may come. Disney Visa has no fees so it's worth having just to earn the Disney Dollars and use the Zero interest rate for the 6 months on any vacation package. Even if you have the money to pay for the vacation you can keep it in savings and earn interest and just make the necessary payments. Even if you have other balances on the card, the card applies payments first to those balances before the balance with zero interest, at least for the vacation offer. I know this is the way it works since I did do it for our package last Sept.

You're welcome!! Honestly, I don't know. I really haven't been to WDW recently during those months. I have received post cards in the mail for the month of January though. I can't remember if Disney Visa was involved. They were good offers thought, we just couldn't use them. I think it was 49 per night at values a few years ago. I would register at WDW and hopefully you will receive email offers from that registration. I just received a ticket included offer (no good since we have AP) for Sept 28 through Dec. That just came from WDW not sure if Visa had anything to do with it but obviously not the AP since tickets were included. I would think that Jan/Feb with the exception of MLK and Presidents day weekends are slower times at WDW. So lucky are you to live on a farm!!!

We got an email offer, but it is only good through Dec of this year. We are limited to about 4 weeks in Jan and Feb and that is it. Living on a farm has it's moments. Right now it is very busy and I would really like to have a Disney trip to look forward to. I need to get a discount to make that happen in 09. Thanks for all your info.

Not sure if this helps but if you go to disneyrewards site for visa there are codes to some resorts for august and september Unfortunately that's not when i'm goin but hopefully this helps someone out......

I am also waiting for a Disney Visa code. I know I saw someone had posted that the Visa code is room only. I don't think that is correct. We went last Dec. and we were able to upgrade from POP to CRB for $46 for the week. Yes only $46 for the week. It really saved us money because we did not have rent a fridge for 8 nights at the POP. We were not room only, we had a package with DDP. Below is some historical data from last year Disney Visa code release dates/stay dates 2007. I know that last year we got a discount on park tickets for February if we used a Disney Visa card. It was a free upgrade to Park Hopper with Water Parks & more. This may have been made available to the general public also, I don't remember.

I believe it is the same discount as the code being offered to the general public but the Disney Visa Code comes out before the code to the general public so Disny Visa Card (and I believe AP) get first dibs.

Okay. I guess I just have to watch the boards. Any idea when the codes for Jan/Feb 09 will be released? We haven't decided for sure if we are going yet. I think it will depend on whether I can get enough money put back for it which is getting harder and harder to do with this economy.
