I wanted to apply for a Disney Visa card, but it seems this is only for Americans (or at least you have to have an American address). I really want to take advantage of the early promo offers and collect points. Anyone know of a Canadian version (or how we could apply for one)? :confused3

Move to the States and become an American!;)

I think folks need to get a sticky on here for this question as it seems to come around quite frequently then we wouldn't have to keep answering this over and over again. No it is not available to us up here but on a side note Chase is starting to supply some fast food places around London with debit machine equipment so that may verywell be a step in the right direction for them coming to the CDN market through a combined effort with another CDN financial institution LOL who am I kidding it isn't ever going to happen LOL.

I agree about the sticky because as of right now - Janet has posted the only way for us Canadians to get a Disney Visa.

Get out a giant thumb tack! A sticky would make a lot of sense on this on, as it does come up pretty often.

MODERATORS.... any chance of a Disney Visa sticky????????? :surfweb:

HAHA we just bought into the DVC and I asked our guide (sales agent) if this means because we now own 0.00355% of AK does that make us US residents and entitled to apply for the Disney CC :confused3 :thumbsup2

funny thing she thought i was serious :rotfl2:

Get a US address.
Apply for the card using your SIN instead of an SSN.

You'll either get approved or denied.

Wait six months. Try again.

If you're still denied. Apply for a Discover card using the US address. Use it once or twice and pay it off.

Rinse, lather, repeat.

Then apply for the Disney Visa again. Warning: You cannot pay a Disney Visa with a Canadian check. It must be a check or money order that will clear the US banking system in US dollars. Some Canadian banks offer accounts with U.S. checking.

That's my understanding.

Well then.. How did I get a US credit card at a US address using that method?

:)

How do you get a US address??

:):)

...and both CanadianGuy and I have brought up "Canadians need a Mod/Board Host" :teeth: - we're all so bad;);) - requests over on the Host Board:)

We'll let you know as soon as we do!

Just as a side-not-quite-OT-note:

Same with any US Department Store cards, ie, Kohl's, Lane Bryant, Coat Factory..etc.

Sign up at the counter for the store credit card, get the discounts, and then stroll down their Customer Service to pay it, immediately!

Once you get home to Canada, you can't call their customer service and pay with your Canadian CC..has to be a money order that will clear the US $$system...which could mean late payment charges for you.

HTH someone!

You have to have a credit report with good standing showing up on US credit files BEFORE you can get the Disney Visa.

A lack of credit history (2-3 years plus) will prevent you from getting the Disney Visa. So you have to apply for another card with lower standards and use that to create and build a credit rating in the US.

Orchard Bank Mastercard or Discover Card will do the trick.

No, I have not applied for a Disney Visa yet, but I know that with only a 1 year credit history - I won't be approved so I'm waiting.

And when you fill out the application, you have to lie and say you are a US Citizen. If you say no -- you'll be denied.

We have tried this I use my sisters address and have very good credit in the US my score is well over 700 and to no avail we can't get the Disney Visa. We have our credit history from Disney in the US and a JC Penny card and a visa from the US and still no on the Disney Visa believe me we have tried everything. Our credit history goes back over 8 years so that isn't the issue either.

Clearly Goofy has it in for you... ;)

Beats me.... UNLESS.. your U.S. credit report has already been flagged as 'non-resident'. That would cause this.

I recieved my reciepts for Disney today in the mail, and they even sent me an application for a Disney visa, but I am in Canada,,,,Hello, what kind of sense does that make....makes me want one even more now.:lmao:

Since we don't have Disney Visas in Canada, are there any comparable alternatives? My Citi Mastercard gives me 1% back on all purchases which is pretty cool, but is there anything better out there, even non-credit-card?

The TD Gold Elite Visa is offering 2% cash back currently and TD Gold Travel Visa is offering double travel miles.

The closest we've been using is the Starwood Mastercard. This gets us SPG points towards staying at the Swan/Dolphin resorts (or any Starwood owned hotel). The last time we stayed I used our points to upgrade us to a club level room for our entire stay. We have about 33,000 points now. When we make it to 40,000 that basically means 5 nights free at the Swan/Dolphin! Pretty cool.

The Mastercard gives you 2 SPG points for every dollar you spend. When we can we stay at a Starwood/Westin/Sheraton hotel too. You also get 3 points for every dollar spent at a hotel just with the SPG program.
