Disney Videography

My fiancé and I are on a tight budget for our wedding and we wanted to add videography through Disney (we are trying to do everything through Disney to meet the minimum expenditure and save money!). We would like to do videography, but the packages are so expensive and we really don't want a huge production. Does anyone know the a la carte pricing Disney offers? And how is the videography?

Thanks :)

How much is your minimum expenditure? From what I understand, Disney videography is extremely expensive. There are outside videographers that are much cheaper. I guess if you're getting married on a day where your minimum is 8k or 10k, maybe Disney is the way to go. But if 3k or 5k, I would definitely look into outside videography.

We're thinking of a Monday ceremony, so 5k is the minimum. Unfortunately we have a HUGE family (my fiancées parents are each have 4-5 siblings, plus their spouses and children; I have 3 siblings-1 of which is married with kids + lots of aunts and uncles) so we probably have around 40 people coming (most of our budget is going toward food/bev min). We really can't afford to go to much over the 5k limit :( (cons of having such a big family!). We may be able to swing an outside vendor if they aren't to expensive! We'll probably meet the minimum on just transportation, photography, floral, and the DJ

Yeah if you're already using Disney for photography, plus DJ, floral and transport as you mention, I don't think Disney videography is going to be economical for you. You will have no problem hitting the 5k minimum with the other stuff. We are using an outside company called Beyond Videography. Right now, we only have them booked to capture the ceremony and that is costing $400. If we want to go up to 6 hours of coverage, I think it's around $1200. We'll make that decision later when we see how the rest of the budget pans out. There are also other options. Trinity for one, but I believe they are more expensive (although not as expensive as Disney).

Another thought - if you're not tied to a Monday, you could move to Tues, Wed, or Thurs and save $25pp on food/bev mins and only need to hit a 3k minimum expenditure. That could help with the budget. It does shorten your reception time and requires a 10am or noon ceremony time (or 9am if Epcot). It could open up your options to spend on outside photography/videography for much cheaper than you can get through Disney, and give you the choice of who you want, whereas Disney doesn't guarantee you will get the photographer you request.

That's so true!! I didn't even think about that. We wanted to get married at noon anyway (I love the way mid-day pictures turn out). We were just worried that the few friends we want there may have a hard time taking the time off work (especially since it's around the holidays). If we move it though, we should definitely be able to save money!!

The people who want to be there will take the time off. And the difference between taking time off for a Monday event and a Tuesday event is not huge.

Disney Videography can be very pricey for sure. I would like into outside vendors as they are tons out there that do great work in the area. If you get a chance, check us out as an alternative option!

We used an outside vendor, but the disney videos I have seen have been fantastic! They are too pricey for me, and I think there are people who do just as good for less money, but Disney video quality is good. Much less hit-or-miss than their photography.

Last I heard (granted this was several months ago) a few people reported even their planners advising them against using Disney Video, just because you get more bang for your buck with an outside vendor (unlike using DFAP, which for many people provides a product for the price comparable to using an outside vendor). Depending on what you want from your video (documentary style vs. more cinematic), you will almost certainly find an outside vendor who fits your budget - and I wouldn't be surprised if you end up meeting the minimums elsewhere!
