Disney/Version Mobile Magic very disappointing

For those of you seeing the commercials on the Disney Mobile Magic with Verizon, skip it. It is a complete waste.

I happen to have a Verizon phone so I thought I'd download it and give it a try. It looked like it gave up to the minute wait times for rides and Fast Passes and time for character meets. Boy was I wrong.

First of all it is slow. Way slow. You can search through the list of attractions, but it only lists them as low, medium, or high. I guess maybe I was dreaming in thinking they'd actually state 20 minutes or 35 minutes. I could tell you low, medium, high just by the time of day without even being the park. What a waste.

And their Fast Pass information only states if they are available or not. I checked earlier in the day so I couldn't verify if they actually changed that when all of the Fast Passes are gone for that day like is common on Toy Story Mania. But I highly doubt it.

The most disappointing to me was the character listings. They have a wide list of characters which was exciting at first. But as I looked at each character, I found it highly inaccurate. When I looked yesterday, it said that Goofy, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Pluto, Pooh, and Cinderella were all not available in the Magic Kingdom. I've been to Disney enough to know that is just not true.

Overall, it was a complete waste. Take my advise, do not waste your money on it.

Thanks for the review. What a shame! I too have a Verizon phone and was contemplating getting that "app" for our next trip. After your experience - no thanks.

i am a brute for punishment. i am going to get it for October just to try it.

We use lines from touringplans.com my dad found it and used it last time he went to disney a couple weeks ago and said it was accurate, It gives wait times in numbers tells you the best and worst park to go to that day its really cool. Also its not an app you use the web browser in your phone and you can use it with all most any phone that has internet i think.

I downloaded the trial version yesterday to see what is was like. What the op listed for information available is what I was receiveing last night and this morning. I thought maybe the vague information provided for the attractions was due to it being the trial version, but I guess not.

Commando2319 - Thanks for saving me the cost of the app!

Commando2319, are you actually in the parks using this app? I too was thinking about downloading it for our upcoming trip, but from what I've read it is GPS based so it will only give up to date information if you are actually in the park you are searching for info on. I've seen people post that they have received up to date wait times and actual fast pass return times, but they are in the park they are searching. I'm just curious if it is still glitchy or if you are too far away for it to work properly.

No, I was not in the parks. But was able to download and use the App.

I don't see why they would list wait times of low, medium, or high for people outside the parks, but give times for people within the park. Or why they would list times for a few characters like Mickey Mouse and Ariel, but not for other characters like Minnie, Goofy, etc. That just doesn't make any sense.

You'd think if they really wanted to restrict access to those in the park (which makes no sense anyways) that they would not list anything at all.

I tried it out 2 weeks ago while I was in the parks and it gave actual wait and FP times. Though you are right, it's pretty darn slow.

I also have the app. I don't find it to be slow. I can't wait to try it in the parks. At this point in time, it is the only app available to me. I work for Verizon, so no iPhone. And Lines isn't available for my phone yet. I am waiting to see if we get the iPhone before I commit to a new contract. Mine isn't up until August, so I have a while to go.

I am going to give it a go in August. I won't download it before the trip because it's only good for 6 months and there is a snowball's chance in Hades that I might go solo in January. So, I might as well get the full 6 months out of the $9.99. :thumbsup2

Without being in the parks, the app isn't much better than their everyday mobile website that everyone can use. Once you are in a park, it gives you tons more info. :wizard:

I have to wonder if certain phones are slower than others.

I just downloaded the Mobile Magic app for my Verizon LG Voyager today. At first the shortcut to download did not appear. The folks at the Verizon store told me the software was 4 versions behind and updated my phone's software and loaded the app. I was told that the 25 MB data plan for $10.00 per month should be more than enough for this and internet access. I was paying $15/month for Vcast internet that they told me I did not need since I was not downloading videos. I plan to use it on my upcoming trip to WDW. It will be great for the Fast Pass time windows alone if it works as some have said. :thumbsup2

At home here in CT it gives only whether fast passes are available or the crowd level as the original poster indicated. We'll see how it actually works at the parks. :)

I suspect the reason Disney doesn't list wait times unless you are in the parks is that it would very easy to code some software to lift the data from a Verizon phone and then publish that data on the internet, making the data Disney is selling worth less.

What you see when you are not in the parks is the "free" version available for all phones that have web access. You can see that site at http://m.disneyworld.com (yes, even with your computer).

The Magic app will ONLY list specific information while inside the parks, and if you have enabled the application to access location info (i.e. GPS).

Why? Because if it was available outside the parks, then others could take that information very easily and use it on their own apps/web sites.

If the vague information is fine with you, the mobile web page will give you the same - you don't need the app, although it may be easier to get with the app.

If you want relatively accurate wait time info outside the parks, I've heard that the "Lines" app/site is relatively accurate, but it is still dependent on user input.

Sounds like I will give a try on our trip afterall. I was hoping that the data would be more detailed while in the parks rather than what was available on the demo.

Thanks to all for posting. :thumbsup2
