Looked at their website and was still unsure.i even emailed them and have yet to get a response. Here is my question. Let's say my cruise is PIF but I have 3000 in my Disney account from GCs I loaded. Can I have my TA load that 3000 onto my Account as OBC?
I just want to make sure I can do that before my money is tied up and I can't use it for the cruise.
Thanks in advance

I called DVA about this exact same thing back in December (wanted to put money in my OBC towards OBB), and was told you just gotta call their special number for DCL at 800-511-9333 and ask them to put the amount towards your OBC (which you can then convert to OBB during the cruise).

Per the DVA contract you're technically not supposed to share your accnt number with a third party, which is why they ask you to call them directly and not go through a TA. Having said that, I've read here that people have set up three-way calls with TA and DCL together and have worked it out that way.

Of course if I were you I'd call the # above directly to verify in the morning, just to be sure.

Good luck!

Interesting. I didn't realize you could use an OBC to rebook onboard. When I've rebooked onboard in the past, I've always been asked for a different form of payment. I've used both credit cards and Dis gift cards for my deposit. But I've never been allowed to charge to my onboard account. Has something changed, or is there a specific way one can convert OBC to OBB? Would love more info!

The DVA CM I phoned said we can do this (DVA --> OBC --> OBB) after checking with her supervisor, but based on what you said I wonder if it's a case of shoreside not knowing what they are talking about?

I will post a new thread to see what others have experienced.

I wonder if you could just pay your deposit with the DVA account when rebooking onboard??? I wonder if anyone has done this?

Heather, are you out there??? Have you tried this?

Heather and I had a discussion about this in December, which is what prompted my phone call to DVA. ;) Then Heather and I had a laugh about it because they are always telling us different and changing information.

Anyway, the CM said you cannot go from DVA directly to OBB, but I can go DVA to OBC to OBB.

Thats too funny (Heather is wonderful and is such a good source for DVA info). Will be curious to see if the DVA to OBC to OBB has worked for anyone.

Once you're PIF, the reservation is "yours". I've used a TA for 2 cruises and once it's PIF, the redo is yours and they're more the consultant and go to if you have a problem. Mine is a AAA agent. Once you are PIF you can establish you OBA. I do it every year we cruise--I book the cruise then add up my wish list of port adventures, spa treatments, on board spendings then start buying Disney gift cards. After I'm PIF I call DCL and ask the agent to be very patient with me as I'm going to put a number of gift cards on my account to establish my OBA. It's worked every time with or without an agency as siting me. I'm not sure that really answers your questions but maybe it helps.

I was able to call that # and have them transfer money from my DVA to my OBC. My TA couldn't do it.

However, I was on the Magic last week and I was definitely NOT able to charge my OBB deposit to my stateroom account. It was a huge hassle because we waited until the last evening. I had to have them transfer money out of the OBC onto my Disney rewards card and only the finance guy who starts at 1am can do that. So we were able to do the OBB deposit in the morning by then but it was a pain for us and for the poor staff that had to deal with it.

Speaking of DVA's. Can that be used to pay if I booked with Costco? Is there even a point to have a DVA then use that for payment?
My PIF date is September 23, 2015.

Yes, definitely you can pay with your DVA. You must call the 800# instead of Costco to apply that final pymt. Nice to get the DVA bonus.

i asked them the same question and reply was :Yes, you can use your Disney Vacation Account to make a payment on a reservation booked directly with Disney through a participating travel agent. However, only you can make a payment with your Disney Vacation Account. Once you book a reservation with a travel agent and you are ready to make a payment, the travel agent can provide you with the reservation number and the dedicated telephone number to make your payment using your Disney Vacation Account. If you have any additional questions or requests about your reservation, you will be instructed by Disney to contact their travel agent.

I read several reports here on the DIS of travel agents applying final payment via DVA accounts. From what I read, your DVA account number works just like a gift card number. I haven't done it first hand so I don't know for sure, but that is what I have read here. :confused3

Can the DVA be used to make monthly "payments", not necessarily just the "Final" Payment? I'd rather spread it out. I don't know why :confused3

I haven't used mine yet, so I don't know. I don't see why not, but hopefully someone here with some experience will reply so we know for sure.

I'm not sure why either??!! Seems like you might just be making more work for yourself. I was worried enough just calling the 800# ONCE to make my final cruise payment! (I had nightmares of DCL not taking my DVA# since my cruise was with Costco.) I all worked out fine, and I really had nothing to worry about.

To answer your question, I'm not sure if you can do it that way or not. I would read the Terms and Conditions. I would think you'd at least want to apply $1,000 each time to ensure you get the bonus $20 gift card. I think the easiest thing is just to slowly fund the DVA and then pay off your cruise (or whatever) in one transaction.

Not sure that was very helpful. Perhaps someone who has tried this will respond.

That's what I'm planning to do. Seems the easiest way to me too! :thumbsup2

I have tried to apply $1000 at a time to simply not have too much in there at one time and it's just easier that way for me. Plus I figure my money is safer as a payment toward the cruise instead of just building up. I recently paid off our Norway cruise and it was like $505 so I paid that and then my next payment was $495 to get me another $1000 level and I just went ahead and prepaid our gratuities and added an extra $100 for on board credit with no problems. Once I see the rest of our port adventures and decide what we are doing, I'll prepay those as well with my DV account.

:wave2: Hi Heather. I figured you would show up here sooner or later!

So you don't have to pay the entire $1,000 at once to get the bonus gift card? I did not load my gift cards to prepay gratuities since it wouldn't get me to the next $1,000 level. Did you do this so you wouldn't have to carry gift cards with you? Does pre-loading your onboard account count toward the bonus? I feel like we've discussed this on the other DVA thread. My memory is terrible.
