I was looking into the Disney Vacation Account but I am not really sure it is a good deal for us and was hoping someone could enlighten me. We have already paid our deposit for our Ft. Wilderness Campsite for our August trip (begins August 5th- that may make a difference with the whole 120 days thing). We have less than $600 left to pay on it.

We are not buying our plane tickets through Disney. We are not getting a dining plan (they are not available w/ the campsites).

We are buying park tickets through the Youth Education Series Program.

So if we are saving money through there- how would it work to pay for "qualifying" purchases? Would our tickets qualify even though it is through YES? How does food expenses work- do you need to buy a dining plan?

Hopefully my questions make sense :)

Officially, the DVA can only be used to pay for accommodations, packages, and tickets online and over the phone. Y.E.S. tickets are a completely different organization. So, none of what you describe would qualify, other than the remaining $600.

Thanks supersnoop- that is what I was thinking but wanted to make sure I didn't miss something :thumbsup2

Does this mean that DVA cannot be used to pay off the balance on your account that you have run up buying food and merch with Magic Bands? If you have already paid for your accommodations (rented DVC points) and tickets (Undercover Tourist) does that mean there are no eligible items left to be paid with DVA?

Are you SURE? They didn't used to be, but I have a package at Ft Wilderness in June and the CM who made my reservation told me I could get the dining plan.

I was really surprised because I didn't know when that became an option. If you 'pretend shop' on disney.com and get a campground you'll see you can add on dining.

Now, I'm not saying it's a good deal, just that it is available.

Someone had reported success using their DVA account to pay off room charges. I tried last Thanksgiving at BWV. The CM tried to put it in twice, but it would not work. It's possible that the CM typed it in wrong, but I didn't try it again with another CM. I've also tried to use it on Disneystore.com, by putting it through as a disney GC, but it errors out. So you can't assume that because they take GC, then DVA will work.

Candleshoe, it looks like you are right. It does appear that you can still add a dining plan. We still are going to stick with not getting it because, the way we eat at the World, it wouldn't make $ense for us.
