Can you use funds in your Disney Vacation Account to purchase Disney gift cards? And if so, will that amount go towards your bonus amount?

No.

Check the FAQs.

edited to clarify:
You can purchase GCs (there's a limit) but you will not get credit toward the bonus.

And they just changed the limit to up to $1,000 in gift cards every 90 days, much better than up to $500 over the entire life of the account! You can now begin to redeem gift cards 60 days after opening the account instead of 120 ... I wish they would switch the bonus eligibility to 60 days too but it's still 120.

Where did you read about this? I tried looking for info about it on the site, but couldnt find anything.

It's in the FAQ section, I stumbled across it yesterday :-)

Under the heading: How do I use my remaining balance to purchase a Disney Gift Card?

To purchase a Disney Gift Card with your Disney Vacation Account, please call (407) 939-7734 to make your request. No more than $1,000 in total from the Disney Vacation Account can be used to purchase Disney Gift Cards every 90 days. Also, your Disney Vacation Account must be active for a minimum of 60 days in order to purchase a Disney Gift Card. Please request your Disney Gift Card at least 4-6 weeks prior to your trip to allow time for delivery to your mailing address.

:offtopic: Is it worth it to get the bigger GC? I've only ever traveled with the $50 ones. Of course we bring a stack. But I'm scared that if I "put all my eggs in one basket" I'll lose that basket!

I just called 1-407-939-7734 and asked for 2 $500 gift cards out of my DVA. The lady on the phone said the maximum gift card she could send me was $100, and she could only send 8 at a time (so, $800). Also, there would be a $5 shipping charge. Is anyone else receiving this same info? Thanks.

Ewww, really? Charging you for mailing a gift card. Never heard of that before. I was thinking you could go online to the Disney store and purchase gift cards with the account. Maybe not then. I will try it maybe.

Really?! I was just looking through the FAQ today and that isn't mentioned anywhere! I know it's only $5, but it surprises me that they'd charge for that.

The lady I talked to sounded clueless, so I hoped someone else would call and report back here.

Have you tried this yet? Thanks.

Just bumping to see if anyone else has tried to get their $1,000 out of their DVA?
If this ever works, I plan to get $1,000 out each and every 90 days.

What about gift cards from raise.com? Can those be deposited into the DVA account?

I wish they could just add it to your resort reservation so you could start out with a credit on your account. For me the whole point of opening an DVC was to avoid zillions of gift cards.
