The Disney Vacation Account website has been DOWN all day, with a weird site is down error message:

The Disney Vacation Account website is temporarily down for maintenance. Please return to this site at a later time. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

Been that way since 8am (its now almost 4:30pm)

Anyone else have an issue? I called 407-939-7734 to complain but I'm guessing if more people call, they will be more motivated to fix it.

Really sucks since I have to load more money in there tonight to pay off my next cruise tomorrow. Ugh!

Have you tried another browser? I get that from Disney sites periodically and then I go to a different browser or clear my cache/cookies/history.

If it's down for maintenance then it is probably intentional. Sites have to do that from time to time. Although many try to work on maintenance during off hours, maybe this time they couldn't.

Don't the funds have to be held in the account for a certain amount of time before they can be used? I thought I read that as I too wanted to add payment and then book an Adventures by Disney trip the next day and read something about the funds being held for a certain amount of time.

I could have been wrong but I know I wound up not using the DVA for that trip.

To get the Disney gift card bonus you have to have the account opened for 120 days before you can get the bonus, but I don't think the whole amount of money that you are going to use for the vacation has to be in the account for a certain amount of time. At least that's what I thought when I opened our account. Our PIF is still over 5 months away, I plan on having all the money in the account two weeks before we have to pay the cruise off.

I know about the 120 days but below is what I was talking about....I just found it at the site:

When I make a payment to my Account, can the funds be used or refunded immediately?

Disney may impose an automatic seven (7) business day hold on each payment you make to your Account so that the payment may not be used for a purchase or refunded for a period of seven (7) business days after the payment is made to your Account.

Doesn't the money need to be moved from the DVA to DCL by the PIF date? The way I read some of these posts that isn't the case, you just need to have the funds in the DVA by that date.

The account only needs to be open for 120 days. Once you passed that, the only restriction is as mentioned above, Disney MAY impose hold on each payment. That is the official policy. In my experience, Disney has NEVER done so but it may depend on the source of funding. If you fund from a checking account, they may impose that. I only ever load Disney Gift cards into my DVA and the funds are always available immediately. I have on several occasions loaded gift cards in, and then within 5 minutes used the DVA to pay for a cruise. No issues.

You are correct. Payment must be made to DCL by the PIF date. DCL has no direct connection with the DVA other than both are "Disney" products. The DVA is like a savings account in this situation, just a place to store your money and earn "interest" -- and just as DCL can't access your savings account at the local bank, they can't access a DVA without the owner of the account initiating a transfer.

As to the hold -- I think the wording "...may impose a hold..." leaves it open. While most people seem to report having immediate access to the funds, it could potentially take up to 7 days and hopefully nobody leaves themselves that short on the timing. Sort of like using a debit card or even a credit card -- the charge (or refund) may appear immediately but could take a few days. Occasionally my bank account will list large deposits as "pending" for a few days, other times deposits are available the next morning or sooner. Sometimes it may depend on the financial institution. I'd think similar for the DVA.

I would not wait until the last minute to use your DVA to pay for the cruise right at the PIF date. I recently had my DVA disappear. When I tried to log in it said that it saw that I had a generic Disney online account but no Disney Vacation Account and asked if I wanted to open one. Just a few days before that, I had used my DVA to pay off 5 staterooms for an upcoming family cruise and it still had around $100 in it. It took about 4 days before they got the account fixed. Fortunately, I did not need to use the account during that time.

I don't normally wait till the last minute but was waiting to receive my last few Disney Gift Cards to load into my DVA and they came a bit later than expected.

Thankfully DVA is back up and running!
