Disney/TTC Dilemma

What should I do?

  • TTC next summer anyway. You can always go to Disney again (even if it takes another 5 years).

  • Wait until after you get home from your trip to TTC.

We're going to Disney next October. Our plan was to TTC baby #2 after we got back. Now I'm thinking that if it weren't for our trip, I'd like to TTC next summer. DD is already three years old, so if we had a spring 2007 baby that would put them 4½ years apart, which seems like a good age difference to me.

However, I want to be able to enjoy myself at Disney too. ToT is one of my top-three favorite rides and I'd hate to make the trip and not be able to ride it. I also want to be able to ride Expedition Everest and Mission: Space,. which weren't there when we last visited. We're not "Disney every year" people - the last time we went was for our honeymoon in April 2002, and we probably won't get there again for another five years. I want to be able to enjoy myself without any restrictions as to what I can or can't do.

So . . . any advice?

You can always go to Disney again, though it's going to be tougher with two kids. We went when DD was 2 months old and DS was barely 3. However, we're headed back only 6 months after that trip. It wasn't terrible, but the focus is very different than before we had kids. At least with one child, you can split up. (Technically you can split up with two. But when one is a runner and the baby wants mom all the time, mom doesn't get to go on as many rides!) If you're fine with the spacing and you are in your 20's, then I'd wait. But if you really want kids closer then ttc. I'd also ttc soon if you're worried about your ages. You never know how long it will take. I did want to get pg when my son was 1, but it took much longer than I anticipated.

DH is 30 (31 in March) and I'm 29 (30 in May). So we're not babies, but we still have a few years ahead of us to have more kids.

Honestly, I'd prefer to have my kids less than five years apart, which could still be accomplished (barely) if we wait to TTC when we get back from our trip. Still, I'm not crazy about the idea of TTC in November. That would give us a July/August baby. We live in Louisiana and July and August are miserable months. I'd almost rather wait until summer 2008 to TTC rather than do it in November 2007, but that would put DD at 5½ by the time the baby came along. Such decisions!

I agree, you can always go to Disney again & it is only a ride (that is what I tell myself-it is only a M&M they are not going out of style any time soon but my butt & M&M's don't mix!).

My first trip with a child was in 2002. My dd was 15 months old & I told my dh that I wanted to do the ride swap & ride Space Mountain one time. You know what I never did ride SM & I didn't care since I was watching my child & I rode it many times before.

Then in 2005 we went & I was pg, about 8 weeks & that trip I was planning on riding the E ticket rides since my parents were going to be there & they could watch my then 4 & 22 month old. But I got pregnant unexpectedly so tha truined my plans on going on the rides.

But you know what, I didn't care. I wanted to do Mission Space but I didn't & that was OK in my mind. I didn't even go on...my mind is blank...the one you sit...Soarin'. I know I could of but I just didn't feel like it. I can go on it when I go back in a few years (I don't go every year either).

Believe me you will enjoy yourself whether you are pregnant or not since you will have your dd & see Disney thru her eyes. To me that was more important then riding the E ticket rides.

Heck when I go in 2008, my kids will be 8, 5 & under 3 (I think) & I bet I won't go on too many E ticket rides since I am not sure if dd & ds (the older two) will want to go on them but if they don't that is OK.

I actully planed my pregnancy and our Disney trip so everything would work out. We arrive in Disney tomorrow (12/2) and I will end my first trimester on Sunday. I am going to miss out on some great rides, but I wanted to take my DS3 while everything was still magical and medically we couldn't wait any longer to conceive. I am over morning sickness and I have my energy back so I think I am physically up for the trip. The only thing I am worried about is gaining too much weight since we will be on the dining plan!

I personally would not wait to TTC if you really would LIKE to try sooner just because of the trip. Either push that up sooner OR go when pregnant and plan to go back again to do TOT when the baby's a little older.

You can always tell those mommies who were ABLE to 'plan' their pregnancies to within a few months...keep in mind that if you wait until you get back - and even if you TTC in the summer - you MIGHT NOT get pregnant when 'planned' so if you're really wanting to keep the age difference under 5 - the sooner the better. You likely have a better chance of actually accomplishing that if you try for longer.

I was 28 when dh and I started TTC #1 and it took over 2 years to have him. So - with #2 we started almost right away - thinking it might take a year or so..well, with her we got lucky a lot faster and they are only 17 months apart. But most/many people can't plan it too exactly - babies and the stuff that make them are very unpredictable and might surprise you.

So my advice would be that the baby is a lot more important than riding Tot and that Tot will ALWAYS be there after the baby.
