Disney trying to stop the cell phone after ride photos?

To all those saying to write down the number of your ride photo and add it to your Photo Pass account...does this only apply to certain ride photos?

No idea if things have changed or not but when I had Photo Pass in 2011, the only ride photo you could put on your account ( FOR FREE) was Test Track and one other but I can't remember which....possibly Buzz Lightyear???

The "big" rides that took your picture, you had to pay extra to add it to your account.

T hey are referring to photopass plus where you pay extra but can get all your ride phtos. You get only one card so you need to get family members to write down their numbers. You can preorder too.

We LOVED the rides only photo pass option! Was only 50$$ and definitely worth the money!! I think we had 25-30 ride pictures ... It was great!

Is the ride only option still available? I'm returning in Feb. With a school group and was planning to buy it, but can't find any info on it now. A couple of weeks ago when our trip was announced, I saw it, but can find it now.

This won't force people to pay for pictures. It will just disappoint a lot of families who have been innocently taking such pictures in Orlando and Anaheim, both, for years. If it was a problem to begin with, Disney would have posted signage long ago telling you not to take photos. They never have. That fact does two things:

• It makes discussing the practices at non-Disney parks (calling it "stealing", etc.) completely irrelevant--if Disney thought it was stealing it would never have been tolerated in the first place, nor would it continue to be tolerated; and
• It makes it very clear that this is simply an attempt to raise additional revenue--in this case by dampening a fully sanctioned element of the guest experience.

I hardly think that most if any of the families that this technology will end up making unhappy will bother actually purchasing the ride photos. Hopefully, at least, they'll take the money and use it to get all those orange cones and ripped seats off the People Mover. All in all, just sounds like a very unkind move on Disney's part.

Beyond this technology, DH and I noticed on our trip earlier this month that Disney was putting watermarks on the after-ride photo displays. They were pretty much right over the faces. Neither of us remembered that being the case when we were there in March.

Ridiculous...Disney was lenient about it and are now pulling in the reigns of people who would NEVER pay for this DISNEY SERVICE. Be thankful you were able to do it for awhile. Lots of people buy the pix but even more STEAL them with their I-phones ...yes I said steal ! Remember when Disney started this nice service not many people had a phone capable of doing what they do today. That is why this theft of services has grown and WDW has every right to stop it.
PP+ is a very good package deal.....spend a little get a lot !!

I did it a few times, years ago, with a real camera not a cell phone. The pictures are not ideal. It's just something to remember. I don't do it anymore because I don't have time, and the quality of a photo taken like that is crap.

Universal actually have a pass which you can use in both there parks which costs around $40 I believe. The pass lasts 3-5 days and can be used unlimited times. We had some great fun on some of the rides posing for pictures.

Yep, and it represents Disney's style. They use technology to protect their revenue stream and not labor. First there was the RFID chip in the refillable mug. Now there's this.

I'd be willing to bet that this technology will make Disney money and not in increased ride photo sales. Disney will make money licensing this technology to Universal, and every other theme park that has on-ride photos and presently pays an employee to stand at the video monitors to enforce the no photos rule.

Plus the jam up that it causes at the end of the ride with people trying to take the picture on the cell and others trying to see the picture and get the number so they can order the photo.

Totally drive me nuts! Trying to get off a ride and you can't get past the photo looker laggers.

Thanks for the tip on the rides only option for PP...never knew it existed! We aren't interested in stopping all the time to get our money's worth out of regular PP, but I wouldn't mind paying $50 to get photos of us on all the rides.

Also, we saw people talking photos of the pics with their phones on our trip in May..we never bothered because I figured by the time I got my phone out, somebody would have told everyone to stop. I was frankly surprised when that didn't happen at the time, and not at all surprised that Disney now has the restriction in place. Like a PP pointed out, its only in recent years that people have been able to take pics with their phones, so it was not a major issue until now.
