We've just booked a 7 night stay at WL from August 14th through August 21st. This is our first trip to DW during a summer month. We anticipate a ton of heat and humidity, but are the crowds a little lighter due to the start of the school year? Any input from those of you who have selected this time of year in the past would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the Dis!!!!!

I have never gone in August... hopefully some Disers will answer your questions who have gone at that time..

Glad you found us. :D

Welcome to the DIS! So nice to meet you.

We're preparing for our second August trip. Our last trip in August was from the 9th to the 24th. The crowds did thin out alittle the last week we were there. Not alot, but you could notice a difference. The MK hours were shortened on the 16th .After the 15th Spectromagic was only on the weekends,so Saturday was very crowded.

Just plan accordingly and be flexible.

We'll be there for our family reunion the first week of August and I'm worried too. We usually go in Sept. or Oct., so this will be a first for us. Good luck everyone!

We've been in August 6 times, so a little experience of the summer months, infact, we've only ever been in July and August...
When Disney reduce hours, usually around the 13-15th of August, the crowds reduce correspondingly. But not by much!
From what I've read on the boards though, this week is at least quieter than the busiest periods, e.g. Easter and Christmas.
Hope this helps.

the summer of FTP was WICKED HOT and PACKED, was the busiest aug. in awile. last summer it was hot and RAINY and STORMY every day just about on our trip, 8/12 - 8/20 ish. we still had fun though. just be prepared for the rain, ponchos, and the heat--take breaks and drink lots. we usually go back to our hotel and have lunch, swim a while, sometimes we go to other hotel and have lunch. then later in the day head back to the parks. this works great for us. we usually go in august now cause of dd school. you will have fun, but be prepared for HEAT........

We went last year end of August, not my favorite time of year but not bad at all. There were only 2 days of the 10 that we thought were pretty unbearable. We packed lots of light coolmax shirts and nylon shorts. Every afternoon like clockwork it stormed, the clouds rolled in and the breeze kicked up. We just scheduled pool time around it. The crowds were moderate, not hard to deal with at all.

Also went in October for Food & Wine, it was hotter and more crowded that 4 day trip.

Have fun.

If you go to waterparks, go first thing at opening, get there 30 min. early to line up and get in parks first.

 Hi :)
I've been to WDW 4x and always in the summer. June-August. Yes, it is hot, humid and it does rain. But this last summer July 23-30, 2003 was the first time my sister and I stayed on property and took the advice of going back to the resort when the heat started to get to much for us,( usually around noon-2pm,) rest for a while and then go back to the parks later on in the afternoon, or early evening.
I'm from Montana so even it it were a "slow" day at the parks it would seem busy to me;) The rain seemed to last longer than what I remembered it doing before, but it did not stop us from having a good time. So good that we are returning this August, 3-13 with other family members.
Pace yourselves, and remember you are there to have fun!::yes::
