How does one get their foot in the door to become a Disney travel agent? I'm asking because the more I think about, the more I want to begin the process to become one.

I'm 29-years-old and in April visited Walt Disney World for the 50th time (that's in terms of vacations and not counting the hundreds of day trips when I was an undergrad at UCF and long weekend visits to a singular park after I moved back home). My Disneyland visits are nowhere comparable (6 and planning #7 for 2014) but I do feel that I have a handle on what is offered. To my family, friends and colleagues I'm their Disney (World or Land) planner and do it all, and for free of charge.

Where does one begin? How does one begin? I'm employed full-time as a nurse and love it, so I'd mainly be looking for part-time (2-4 days each week); is that going to be a hinderance?

Any help, tips, or insight would be appreciated! :)

It is not as easy as wanting to be a Disney Agent. You would have to find an agency that would want to let you work such short hours, which is really hard to begin with because it can take hours and sometimes days to put the perfect package together. Most in your position would become an independent agent with a host agency, then you have to take the classes that Disney Education Program before Disney will give you access to even book something using their system. That program alone will take several days/weeks. Then it is the process of finding the clients to book the vacations for.

I am a travel agent. I did ALOT of research and read everything I could before I got started.

You will find that lots of NEW travel agents start out working very part time, while working a full time job to pay the bills. ;)

Feel free to PM me with any questions you might have.

I can't pm you since I haven't posted the min. yet, but I'd love to get info on being an agent. You can email me at thewalls (at) me.com :)

I am also starting to look into this as a job opportunity. I stopped working as a Civil Engineer 5 years ago when I had my son, and now I would like to go back to work part or full time, but with more flexible hours and the ability to pick my kids up from school when they need it. I have the hours to spend, but not sure how to get my foot in the door or where I should apply. I also don't know if I need to have any sort of independent TA licensing before applying to an agency.

I would LOVE to help families plan magical vacations!!! I am constantly, and obsessively, planning our next Disney trip and I need to transfer some of that energy into other people's vacations because I can't afford 5 trips a year! :rotfl:

Getting ready to head out on our first disney cruise and I was told to take advantage of the deals and book a dummy date while on the ship. I am fine with doing that but I do not have a travel agent. I booked this cruise via expedia and I won't do that again because my on board credit is missing from my reservation and I know there was one available at the time of booking and the lady I spoke with when I booked the reservation told me all the things I could use it for. Grrr!!

Anyway. I dont mind using a travel agent but I like being able to make payments on the cruise with no interest or waiting and paying the lump sum at tax time. Make sense? Can I do this with a travel agent?

With regards to the original question in this thread, where or what is the best resource to get started in becoming a Disney booking agent? I'm very interested in supplementing my income, and helping people book resort rooms sounds like something I might be able to handle. How can I get started?

If there are any official/authorized Disney agents in this forum, how did you get started? Was there a large monetary investment or just time investment?
