Hi all!
I hope you can help us.
We are a family of four living in the UK. We have been to DLP 6 times.
But we are now looking at whether we should go for it and travel to WDW. *EEEEEK!* If we go for it I may be around asking a lot of questions!
I have done some research on prices and I we are now trying to make the big decision.
We are looking at going to Universal Studios during our visit.
So the question is-Do I need to book a car or can you get from the Disney Parks to Universal parks using public transport?
(I am thinking this may be a pretty dumb question as the parks are huge and distance some way! But we thought we would check....
Thanks :)

Definitely go for it!

You can take a shuttle through Mears Transportation from WDW resorts to Universal. Or take a cab. Or take the public bus (but this would take a long time!). Or as you said, rent a car.

Universal is two parks, and if you think you'll spend more than one day there, you might consider staying onsite there to get the FOTL (front of the line) access. In that case, I'd rent a car.

Depending on where you stay at WDW, you may consider having a rental car anyway.

Thank you :)
We're looking at the Disney Caribbean Resort. This is all new to me! :confused3 I am usually the one giving out advice on DLP! ;)

Caribbean Beach is okay, but I'd suggest really reading up on the resorts. There were lots of UK families staying at Old Key West resort when we were there last year, so I'm guessing there must be some good UK deals out there. WDW is very overwhelming, but there are great resources on here! Good luck!

We took a cab to Universal last week. It was $38.00 there and $36.00 back. We only went for one day and there were 13 of us so the Meats shuttle didn't make sense for us. We had two cabs and split the fares two ways (2 families in each cab)

I agree to check out the information on all the resorts.

Caribbean Beach Resort is a moderate one. Will you be comfortable in the room with two double beds for all 4 of you? I know many will, but for us now that's too tight (and you can find all sorts of options, so do check out all the Disney resorts as well as options nearby).

How long will you go for? If only a week, then you would probably want to just go to the Disney parks - there is so much to see and do! If two weeks then for sure check out Universal if you want. You probably would need a LONG day or two days for Universal in my opinion - and the advice to stay a night or two at one of their resorts for the line priority may be well worth it.

I understand from the UK you can get different deals on Disney resorts, as well as 14 and 21 day park tickets that we here in the USA cannot get. It's so far to travel that it would be great if you can swing the time off for a long trip.

My last time going to Orlando (just me and my two kids who were 15 and 13 at the time) was 15 nights in a condo nearby. It was great! We are just a two hour flight away, but it was great to have lots of down time and time for things like mini golf, water parks (but of course two hours later huge storms always come in - thank God for the "my radar" app on my iPhone so I saw them coming and we packed up before the huge exodus!).

If you're not comfortable driving (or don't want to bother) then staying at a Disney resort and using their transportation while at the Disney parks is easiest, then use taxis back and forth and consider a night or two at a Universal hotel.

Hi all!
Thank you for the prices on cabs - that is really helpful!
And thank you for the advice and will look at other places to stay :)
We can get a really good deal at the moment, so I need to make my mind up soon. We will hopefully be going for two weeks :D
We are OK staying in a room with two doubles. Believe me, UK and other European hotel rooms are TINY compared to the ones I have heard friends talk about in WDW. As my two are 11 and 19, the room is for sleeping and freshening up. We did a week this year in DLP in NPB and we were Ok :) But will see if I can get something else for our money :)
You are all so helpful!

I would consider Coronado Springs Resort. We stayed there and it is the most comfortable of all the moderate resorts. It's a large resort so if you are planning on a 10+ day holiday, you won't get bored there. The main pool is awesome. The other moderate resorts are smaller. But I am sure whichever resort you pick you will have a lot of fun.
