Disney to Buy Marvel for $4 Billion

OMG!!! DH and DS would be absolutely estatic if this happens!!! And also DN!!! This would be awesome!!

I'm scratching my eyes in disbelief on this one. It just doesn't seem right to me. :confused3

And yes, what will happen with Marvel Super Hero Island at Islands of Adventure? If Universal has to retheme that area I'll just cry. Universal spent $75 million on the Spiderman attraction alone back in the late 90s.

"Holy change of fortune Batman"!

Wow, didn't see this one coming!

They could open a fifth park entirely dedicated to Marvel, think of the possibilities.:charac4:

::yes::::yes::::yes:: I just told DH about it and I think he's going to have a baby!!!:rotfl2: Everyone knows that Disney needs a fifth park...can you imagine all of the possibilites like LilGMom said?!?! Disney will have truly outdone themselves if this gets pulled off!!

We will have to wait to see if this is a good deal or not. As for helping create a fifth park this alone won;t do it and if you have been wondering why disney has not been doing many improvements at WDW well they have been saving to buy this.

I am stunned. I think Disney has enough of it's own material/characters to do a 5th park without spending 4 billion dollars aquiring characters and rights to things they didn't create. I know they bought the Muppets, which they haven't done anything much with at all, but at least they mostly fit in with Disney. I think it would be super weird to have a Disney Super Hero park. I am really, really surprised by this.

And we are going to have to wait 3 weeks to hear what Pete has to say about it!

I think this a two fold stragety here.

1st being trying to kill US off before HP kicks in.
2nd to recoup some male demographic after being so much Princess orientated.

If i was a betting man I would say now that a 5th park is now a good possibility. Trying to fit the characters they now have into the parks will be either look awkward or now just strange. A 5th park now with Marvel sprinkle in some Incredibles and other 'super' hero type people.

I 'm betting that this has only a minimal impact on Universal in the short term. I have to assume that Marvel had licensing agreements in place with Universal which Disney must now honor (or buy themselves out of). Once those contracts have expired, Universal better be ready to tackle some serious re-theming.

I'm just wondering how Marvel's superheroes fit into Disney's "family friendly" themes.

I don't know much about this type of thing, but maybe they would just let the Universal park keep Spiderman for a price and then just collect the money without doing anything. :confused3

Disney is a business why would they want to do that when they could cause Universal so many more problems by having them having to re theme everything? Steven Spielberg will be rubbing his hands now. Heads he gets his lump sum, tails Universal come back with better offer to make sure he stays now.

Really? You can't see Spiderman scaling Cinderella's castle?

I know this has only been out about 10 minutes, but I think I hate this.

Bob Iger apparently said on CNN that Marvel characters might show up in Disney parks "around the world, but there are contracts that have to be honored first. When they run out though, they will be re-evaluated. And
one of his main points is this is a way to reach out to boys, as they have girl market cornered with the Princesses.

Just going out on a limb here, Bob Iger said 3 or 4 years ago that a new theme park in Orlando was not in the forseeable future.

I'd venture to guess the Marvel characters would end up finding their way into Hollywood Studios somewhere. Maybe it's time to take a bulldozer to the Backlot Tour.

It's still hard for me to believe Mickey Mouse and Spiderman will be sharing the same address.

I might have to agree here with this one. I do think it might be weird at first to have a Marvel/Superhero park...but think about all those lil boys(and grown men!!!:rotfl2:)who would go gaga over this!!! It would help that demographic out sooo much!! I know I would enjoy it!!

VERY interesting for Universal....( I really like Universal). However, I like the separation of Disney and Universal (Two different sorts of experiences). Not sure if I'm gonna like this.
