DISNEY TO BUILD ITS FIRST UK RESORT
01 April 2010 by Adam Goodger

For years, Disney fans in the UK have wished for a something a little bit magical to come to their shores and today, Disney have finally announced something special. The new holiday destination will be named “Disney’s Explorer Hotel and Campground”. The new resort, set to open in 2012 will be include: a 2,000 room hotel, cabins (holding up to 6) and an area designed for touring caravans and tents.

The new resort will be built just outside of Birmingham, in an area called Arden with easy access to many of the Midlands main attractions and only an hour away from London. The location, known as the “Forset of Arden” will allow Disney to build outdoor adventure activities that will take place in the “forest”. The resort’s location also has good transport links with access to the M6, M42, A45, Birmingham Airport and Rail network. Disney would not name the exact location within Arden although access to all those networks does narrow down the areas it may be in.

As well as a place to stay, Disney’s Explorer will also offer the high quality entertainment expected from Disney. This will include character meet and greets, evening shows only comparable to that in the West End and what will become the UKs largest indoor water park entitled “Adventurer’s Cove”. This 5 acre water park, encased under a heated dome, will include many water attractions including the UK’s longest water coaster, a wave pool, lazy river and much more.

The resort will include its top quality food outlets with character dining, a signature adult only restaurant and a large food court. The resort will have enough within its wall for a family to enjoy a 4 or 5 day break and guests will be able to use their DVC points towards a stay. Disney has said that this cannot be used as a ’home’ resort.

But there is more, Disney will also provide activities for children with a dedicated kids activity centre entitled “The Neverland Club”. The building has its on indoor adventure play area, disco, art and computer rooms, adventure golf (accessible for all). The most exciting for some will be the addition of a TV/Music studio allowing kids to take part in some of their favourite Disney shows or record one of their favourite Disney songs. There will also be the UK’s first ever “Bibbidy Bobbidy Boutique” (an extra charge) and “Pirates Lair”(an extra charge) for the boys.

Disney will offer sporting facilities that include a number of tennis courts, a running track, a small pitch and putt golf course, biking tracks, quad bikes and karting.

There will be more details to come over the coming months but Disney have said that bookings will open in early 2011. They would not comment on the price of a stay at the resort or if this was the beginning of a number of resorts to be built in this country.

I truly hope that this is the beginning of Disney offering more and more in this country. We already have the Disney Stores and the UK’s largest official Pin event is happening in Milton Keynes in April. Maybe, 2010 will be Disney’s year in the UK.

We will keep you posted as we find out more about what is coming. Make sure to check out the Disneybrit Podcast where we will be discussing this in more detail. You can find us at www.disneybrit.com or by searching for Disneybrit on iTunes.

If you look at the very bottom of the article there is a statement that says:

UPDATE: Yes, this was an April Fool Joke! Sorry, to those who were fooled but it would be great to have something like this in the UK. What do you think?

Yes, it was only just updated it though at 12pm, it wasn't there when this thread was started.

I wish it was true, it would be fab!

Ha ha good one. Of course would be great but can you imagine how many times things would have to be cancelled because of the weather.

Nice try from Adam, but not as good as this one from last year by Alain Littaye over on the Disney and More blog.

Thanks Claire, thought I was going mad then lol, I knew it said nothing about April Fool when I looked at it:)

Hate April Fool gags, they always seem totally pointless to me:confused3

This really had me going before I realised what the date was. I was gutted when I realised because it all sounds so good. I was mentally planning when I could fit it in in 2011 - 2012. Adam ... you have a very wicked streak

Did anyone see the one on GMTV about a zoo only employing tall keepers to look after giraffes? :rotfl:
