I need to purchase tickets for a budget trip for our family. Someone mentioned purchasing from a craigslist or ebay. Has anyone done this? Is it common practice. Is this a common scam?

Where is the best place to purchase tickets?

I would NEVER buy from those places. I wouldn't even take a chance. We get ours from Disney so that I know that we will have good tickets. I have heard of a couple places to get them but it's only going to save you very little per ticket, like less than five dollars I think, and it was not Ebay or craigslist. I'm sure someone will post the link. I can't think of it right now.

Unless you personally know the seller, or they are on eBay with very high positive feedback as a seller I would stay away from them.

Because the only things encoded on the magnetic stripe (and bar code) are what type of ticket it is and the serial number of the ticket, you have to have access to a Disney Automated Ticketing System computer to read the ticket and see what actually remains on the ticket.

And if the ticket is partially used, unless it clearly states it has the No Expire Option it is normally only valid for 14 days from the first time it went through a turnstile. Additionally if it has been used it will have a finger scan tied to it. There are ways to tell if you are the legitimte owner, and if you are not the best you will find is you will be allowed to purchase full-price tickets on the spot.

Note that all tickets state on them they are not transferable, and additionally it is a violation of Florida law to sell partially used theme park tickets.

Do not buy tickets on ebay or craigslist!! Go to mousesavers.com, subscribe to the newsletter where you can find a link to discounted tickets through undercovertourist.com. They are very reputable and have the best prices on tickets, but you have to use the link in the newsletter.

ITA! There are too many scams on CL and Ebay.

Sign up for mousesavers newsletter. They have a link to undercover tourist, and they are an authorized ticket seller. Honestly, you don't save a ton, just a few dollars.

If you see a very big discount, it's probably a scam. I would never buy a used ticket or one from ebay. It's not worth it - they are non transferrable, so really it's not allowed. And, you run the very high risk of getting to the gate and finding out they aren't good.

The ticket prices tend to be a huge part of our budget for Disney - at least $1000 for the 4 of us. Some years, we've gotten annual passes and gone 3 times, so that paid off (plus got room discounts with the passes a couple of times).
